This ad is very effective at convincing the public that their country is falling apart at the seams during what was already a time of immense uncertainty.
I suppose I can see this as an ancestor to YTP. It's built around instilling an emotional reaction, so there's a whole lot of filters and noise to grab the attention. It's far more sedate that modern YTPs, but then people in 1968 didn't have the live in our sort of hypersaturated media environment, or have the familiarity with split-second schizophrenic editing we have today. Gotta hand it to Nixon, though; he knew how to get the JOJ.
Even if early campaign ads were primitive by today's standards, some of them were quite good. 1968 produced two of my very favorites: this one and the "Laughing at Agnew" ad that Humphrey ran.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that the 2016 election IS the 1968 election: two of the worst candidates to ever run for the job, controversy over the Democratic party's candidate selection process, and the fate of the world in the balance.
If a super PAC hired me to remake this video this year with Obama (I don't think the Romney-Ryan campaign would do it), I'd do it to Matchbox 20's "How Far We've Come".
+Joel Holmes Because there won't be any demo attack adds claiming that Republicans will remove a woman's right to vote, force children to pray in school, and set the world on fire...
My god...Nixon is the grandfather of YTP

This year, vote like you're on LSD
Nixon's experimental phase.
TH-cam Poop: Nixon Trolls Hubert Humphrey
The first Poop
And good effort, too. Though it needed more splicing, maybe a sex joke or two.
Well that settles it, I'm voting for Nixon, I don't care if I'm in Australia or not!
Or if you're 45 year too late!
45 years too late & the wrong country & he still gets my vote. I was drunk when I posted that by the way so yeah I forgot time exists.

And to think, the best ad Humphrey could come up with was the guy laughing at Spiro Agnew. No wonder Nixon won.
Humphrey never entered any primaries. was a v.p, to unpopular president. I wonde rif Robert KENNEDY could of defeated Nixon in 68?
The windmill one was pretty good.
I was waiting for a dimensional portal to open.
I think my mind just got molested
same!
Nixon is my favorite ytper
+Kenetic Kups This is one of my favorite campaign ads
Must... vote... Nixon. Pain in head... hurts so much!
The first YTP.
+Eric S. Czernecki
It's relatively slow paced compared to other YTPs, though that is to be expected.
Warner Bros. made one in a Looney Tunes short in 1938.
I didn't know Nixon was a TH-cam Pooper.
Holy shit. Richard Nixon invented YTP.
Geez, why don't they just go ahead and draw devil horns on him?
So Nixon made a TH-cam Poop. Fascinating.
this is so surreal

If this is what Nixon sees, it’s no wonder he went mad in Futurama.
This looks like a ytp. Holy fuck. Our teacher showed us this in gov. Ear rape and simple editing.
I remember when this ad originally aired. I believe it was pulled after one or two broadcasts, due to public outcry.
Perhaps he could've added sentence-mixing if he'd have used Sony Vegas.

vote for Dick Nixon, the peace candidate!
very good avertisement in 1968.
This ad DOES bare disturbing similarities with TH-cam Poop conventions...
He had sony vegas before we had it
Dammit we need another watergate.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
is this.... YTP?

What's next? A clip of JFK, RFK, and LBJ riffing on Ed Wood movies?
GOP to try this again, against Hillary (or whoever), in Nov. 2016?
+Joel Holmes Because there won't be any demo attack adds claiming that Republicans will remove a woman's right to vote, force children to pray in school, and set the world on fire...
+bloodrunsclear Wanna bet?
artistwithouttalent I can't anymore. Hillary literally Goldwatered Trump by claiming electing him would lead to nuclear war XD
A poorly edited pop. When was this made 1968? Oh...
At he end of the Vedio it just ends with, "great job"
Super Mario at 0:34 :D
