Some movie reporters and journalists didn't hold back and chose a few Korean actors who, according to them, failed to showcase good acting skills last year!
Hyo Joo being labeled as the worst actress of 2023 is WILD honestly. She’s done a phenomenal job in many shows/movies, I get criticism but that’s a ridiculous claim especially given her other works, I’d go as far to say she deserves more recognition in my opinion.
Park seo joon definitely has been subjected to a backlash due to his appearance in a Marvel film . Unfortunately Koreans I feel don’t like the fact he’d work in America I guess they feel he’s now a bit big headed about it though he’s not it was just an acting opportunity.

Park Seo-jun has been excellent in everything I’ve ever seen him act in. I hate actors that you can tell are ‘acting’, that has never been the case with him, in my opinion. I’d love to know who these ‘critics’ are. Also, again, in my opinion, GyeongSeong Creature has been underrated. Both Park Seo-jun and Han So-hee have incredible chemistry together and both played these roles amazingly well, selling the unusual fantasy thriller/horror story and their love affair well. Seems like the K-Critics are a strange, judgemental, and ‘catty’ bunch, with bad taste apparently!

If Yura can play a convincing villian and her every character makes you want to punch her, she's doing a good job. It's not her fault shes typecast into same roles.

I can agree on all the rest but not Han Hyu Joo. She's a versatile actress that slays every damn role she plays. Underated actress imo and amazing on her roles. She deserves recognition big time. It is also exaggerated when he tried to express any real emotion. It is like he struggles to be sincere with the audience and even with the script. In GS Creature I cringed a few times and had to reread the subtitiles of other characters to figure out what was happening when he wasn't talking but the camera was on him. But in his defense I have only watched two of his dramas and didn't finish the movie of his I started watching.

Park seo joon falls under the "Dwayne "the rock" Johnson" type of actor. Compared to the ones he starred along side with like Kang Ha Neul and Kim Ji Won (who are known for their versatility), Seo joon choses projects and roles almost similar from his last one. Hyper masculine guy, the same limited facial expressions, the same accent and tone of voice, the styling is basically the same, etc. He's a one trick pony but his likeability and looks made up for it.
Some plots are just not that interesting, many are similar to others, and many are too long and drawn out. An actor can’t pull a boring plot out of a morass. Also, many roles lack depth, so there’s not much an actor can do.

I am no expert on film actors let alone Korean actors. But I thought Gyeongseong Creature was brilliant on multiple levels. Every actor was convincing. But then we all suddenly have become critics and attack music and films and actors not to our taste. I stopped listening to critics years ago. Best to make up your own mind.
hmmm, to be fair, most k-dramas do not require range or depth, since they are the same every time with slightly altered story lines. The actor from Secretary Kim is bashed somewhat unfairly - anyone who is willing to send himself up is fine with us. Many are truly horrible in kdrama even - all those idols that just stick their pretty faces into the camera…gosh, useless. Also, in Asian movies in general, emotions are very often overacted to the max.

This is not so accurate. I never liked Park Seojun’s acting until I watched Itaewon’s Class. The scene where he met with the rich man’s son in the rain in episode 2 or so cemented his acting for him. That man made me cry like a baby. I have never seen any actor bring out such emotion on screen. It was really intense and he killed it. Since then, I’ve come to terms with his style of acting. He’s good please. Acting is very difficult job. If an actor has a bad director and writer, they most likely will flop. An actor builds on what they are given!

I know Yura from Forcasting Love and Weather. I thought she acted fine in that K-Drama I mainly watched Forcasting Love and Weather because Song Kang was in that K-Drama. I’m a huge Song Kang fan I first saw him in Nevertheless and than followed him ever since. I was waiting for them to say Song Kang or Han So Hee or Kim Yoo-Jung those are Song Kang’s leading ladies in Nevertheless and My Demon. I would strongly disagree if they added Song Kang or those two actresses I mentioned because I like those South Korean actresses they acted well beside Song Kang. I didn’t care too much for Park Min-Young’s acting in Forcasting Love and Weather or maybe it’s just because I didn’t think that Song Kang and Park Min-Young had a strong connection than he did with Han So Hee in Nevertheless and Kim Yoo-Jung in My Demon. I’m glad they didn’t mention Song Kang he’s my favorite South Korean actor. I’ve seen more of his K-Dramas than any of his co-stars. I’ve watched him in Nevertheless which was my first K-Drama that I ever watched and than I watched him in Forcasting Love and Weather and now I’m watching him in My Demon. The only co-star I’ve watched in a separate K-Drama is Han So Hee in Soundtrack #1 Anyway I’m glad Song Kang wasn’t on the list of worst Korean actors, I would have been upset.

Park Seojoon's acting felt uncomfortable in GS Creature. I have only ever watched him in Secretary Kim but even there some scenes were very...but I glossed over it as it was a romcom so no need to be so intense, right? But if that's how he always acts it's actually a bit terrible. It is like he does not know what expressions to make, how to convey emotions, how to come off as sincere and has only exaggerated gimmicky expressions that make him seem like a comic relief character. But I will watch more of him, maybe it was just two bad shows...but then again those shows are almost 7 years apart, so I do not know what to think tbh.
I think "what makes a good actor" is rapidly being redefined as K-dramas suddenly became wildly popular outside of Korea - so the way actors had to portray their character just 5-7 years ago is now considered "poor acting". "Secretary Kim" is a typical "aimed at korean audience" drama and the acting is fully on par with what you'd expect .. It may seem over the top for western taste at times, but that's how they did things "back then". Watch him in Itaewon Class for example, and you'll see a far more subdued but intense performance. I think GS Creatures mostly suffered from the poor chemistry between the main characters which can absolutely make a performance seem "wooden".
Im sorry I like Han Hyo Joo but after seeing her in Believer 2, I just cant continue watching it. The way she portrayed Big Knife felt like she was trying way too hard and tried to do too many unnecessary things with the character that it came across as overly exaggerated
There are more Bad in acting Korean actors than the one you mention Go Ara,I watched many of her films and finished till the last episodes... while many Serie's from the other actresses is feel boring to watched from story,casting and definitely the story...

@hayo6285 You know there is a thing called "improving" that good actors do without the audience noticing. And all of these actors mentioned in the video are not here for 2-3 yrs. Some of them are in the industry for over a decade. For example, Choi wooshik have always silently improved himself. See his performance in Train to Busan and Parasite. The difference is so effective and better.

I can agree on all the rest but not Han Hyu Joo. She's a versatile actress that slays every damn role she plays. Underated actress imo and amazing on her roles. She deserves recognition big time. They should have included Shin Se Kyung, Suzy Bae,Black Pink Jisoo and Song Hye Kyo. Terrible horrible actresses that have zero talent and are nothing but pretty faces in the acting industry.

I watched she was pretty becoz of the actress .
It is also exaggerated when he tried to express any real emotion. It is like he struggles to be sincere with the audience and even with the script. In GS Creature I cringed a few times and had to reread the subtitiles of other characters to figure out what was happening when he wasn't talking but the camera was on him. But in his defense I have only watched two of his dramas and didn't finish the movie of his I started watching.

Park seo joon falls under the "Dwayne "the rock" Johnson" type of actor. Compared to the ones he starred along side with like Kang Ha Neul and Kim Ji Won (who are known for their versatility), Seo joon choses projects and roles almost similar from his last one. Hyper masculine guy, the same limited facial expressions, the same accent and tone of voice, the styling is basically the same, etc. He's a one trick pony but his likeability and looks made up for it.
Some plots are just not that interesting, many are similar to others, and many are too long and drawn out. An actor can’t pull a boring plot out of a morass. Also, many roles lack depth, so there’s not much an actor can do.
And some are really just bad actors

I am no expert on film actors let alone Korean actors. But I thought Gyeongseong Creature was brilliant on multiple levels. Every actor was convincing. But then we all suddenly have become critics and attack music and films and actors not to our taste. I stopped listening to critics years ago. Best to make up your own mind.
hmmm, to be fair, most k-dramas do not require range or depth, since they are the same every time with slightly altered story lines. The actor from Secretary Kim is bashed somewhat unfairly - anyone who is willing to send himself up is fine with us. Many are truly horrible in kdrama even - all those idols that just stick their pretty faces into the camera…gosh, useless. Also, in Asian movies in general, emotions are very often overacted to the max.
Yeah. Korean dramas are mainly based on staring contest and screaming instead of talking.

I never liked Park Seojun’s acting until I watched Itaewon’s Class. The scene where he met with the rich man’s son in the rain in episode 2 or so cemented his acting for him.
That man made me cry like a baby. I have never seen any actor bring out such emotion on screen. It was really intense and he killed it.
Since then, I’ve come to terms with his style of acting. He’s good please.

I know Yura from Forcasting Love and Weather. I thought she acted fine in that K-Drama I mainly watched Forcasting Love and Weather because Song Kang was in that K-Drama. I’m a huge Song Kang fan I first saw him in Nevertheless and than followed him ever since. I was waiting for them to say Song Kang or Han So Hee or Kim Yoo-Jung those are Song Kang’s leading ladies in Nevertheless and My Demon. I would strongly disagree if they added Song Kang or those two actresses I mentioned because I like those South Korean actresses they acted well beside Song Kang. I didn’t care too much for Park Min-Young’s acting in Forcasting Love and Weather or maybe it’s just because I didn’t think that Song Kang and Park Min-Young had a strong connection than he did with Han So Hee in Nevertheless and Kim Yoo-Jung in My Demon. I’m glad they didn’t mention Song Kang he’s my favorite South Korean actor. I’ve seen more of his K-Dramas than any of his co-stars. I’ve watched him in Nevertheless which was my first K-Drama that I ever watched and than I watched him in Forcasting Love and Weather and now I’m watching him in My Demon. The only co-star I’ve watched in a separate K-Drama is Han So Hee in Soundtrack #1 Anyway I’m glad Song Kang wasn’t on the list of worst Korean actors, I would have been upset.

Park Seojoon's acting felt uncomfortable in GS Creature. I have only ever watched him in Secretary Kim but even there some scenes were very...but I glossed over it as it was a romcom so no need to be so intense, right? But if that's how he always acts it's actually a bit terrible. It is like he does not know what expressions to make, how to convey emotions, how to come off as sincere and has only exaggerated gimmicky expressions that make him seem like a comic relief character. But I will watch more of him, maybe it was just two bad shows...but then again those shows are almost 7 years apart, so I do not know what to think tbh.
I think "what makes a good actor" is rapidly being redefined as K-dramas suddenly became wildly popular outside of Korea - so the way actors had to portray their character just 5-7 years ago is now considered "poor acting". "Secretary Kim" is a typical "aimed at korean audience" drama and the acting is fully on par with what you'd expect .. It may seem over the top for western taste at times, but that's how they did things "back then".
Watch him in Itaewon Class for example, and you'll see a far more subdued but intense performance. I think GS Creatures mostly suffered from the poor chemistry between the main characters which can absolutely make a performance seem "wooden".

Im sorry I like Han Hyo Joo but after seeing her in Believer 2, I just cant continue watching it. The way she portrayed Big Knife felt like she was trying way too hard and tried to do too many unnecessary things with the character that it came across as overly exaggerated

@hayo6285 You know there is a thing called "improving" that good actors do without the audience noticing. And all of these actors mentioned in the video are not here for 2-3 yrs. Some of them are in the industry for over a decade. For example, Choi wooshik have always silently improved himself. See his performance in Train to Busan and Parasite. The difference is so effective and better.
