      Cedric & Ada Gear and Outdoors Cripes. Sounded like a damn bowling alley or someone raping an ironing board. You taught me something about the saw blades! Perfectly logical but I never thought of it before. Makes me wonder if half the tool manufacturers have figured that out.

      I started out with a Gerber Suspension from Walmart for about $25 or $30 and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. Used it a lot and it did become clear that there'd be better things out there so I ponied up for a Leatherman Wave and realized they really are the best thing since sliced bread and I still think so ten years later. The Wave and it's offshoots (Surge, Charge, etc) are so we'll design for general, camp, and survival use. I've used every single feature.

    When the Rebar first came out I bought one... I am still using that very same tool. Must be almost fifteen years old by now! The pliers are still perfect, cutters are still perfect, just can't express enough the lasting quality of this tool. It rides my belt every single day and almost always gets used for something.

    Captain Stamp here:
    0:31 - Intros (leatherman clone)
    1:11 - Gerber Suspension
    1:54 - Leatherman Rebar
    2:37 - The Pliers
    7:28 - Wire cut tests
    7:48 - Construction quality
    9:23 - Tool sets and quality
    13:20 - Saw tests
    14:55 - Screw drivers
    17:19 - Other tools
    19:20 - Thoughts on how looks are deceiving
    At the end of it boys and girls, just get a leatherman, even the cheap wingman, I started off with that one and it worked great for what it was. Right now I have the skeletool and it is the best weight to tool selection for me. The wave is also a great contender but is heavy.

    Having found myself in the wilderness of Colarado with a friend of mine with no can opener (literally the only tool that we discovered we had forgotten to pack) I can tell you that anything can be a can opener if you're hungry enough. In our case it ended up being a teaspoon

    Old vid I know, but just wanted to say Gerber takes their warranty seriously. My 12 year old Suspension lost a screw that wasn't even vital to the operation, and they sent me a brand new Suspension. I only asked for the screw! Lol The heads on the new ones seem better fitted and tighter, while my old one has always been a little loose. I carry a Rebar now because of its size, but I am impressed by Gerber's support of a $30 multitool.

    I love my Gerber mp600. Im not building houses with it but for what I need the tool for it works awesome and I love just flicking my wrist to get the pliers out . I also have the 10 piece bit adapter and that thing helps out in a pinch like you wouldn't believe. I never owned a Leatherman but after watching a bunch of reviews I'm gonna pick one up because if I think my Gerber is great that Leatherman according to reviewers is much better. Love the channel by the way. This is my go to channel for knife and multitool reviews

    It's not "supposed to just be friction, and push it back down".
    That is the exact locking system that the original Leatherman SuperTool had, which is the tool your Kincrome is a knock-off of.

    Heads up for the Gerber:
    I used the saw blade to cut a 40 year old piece of hard cedar. I was a 3.5inch hat post. Took about 12-15 minutes. But it since it had a comfortable grip without sharp metal to sore your grip. It went really well.
    You do however need to sharpen the blades(not the saw) and sharpen the can opener. Afterwards it holds up well.

    On a construction site I used to work I met a guy with a Leatherman Wave for 160 euros. I was, and still am, using Ganzo 302B for 45 euros. After we compared our multitools we both said that the Leatherman is better, and he was teasing me for having such a cheap tool. Few days later he lost his precious Leatherman. After 4 days he showed up with new multitool. At first he didn't wanted to show what it was. It turned out to be Ganzo 302 but not painted black. Everybody was now teasing him.

    I have a Leatherman Wingman and removed the "inside tools", leaving just the pliers, blade and sissors. It has been my EDC for 4yrs now, but only recently removed the other tools, extra weight wasn't worth it. Really really love it now, I will never have any other multi.

    Leatherman's come a long way. I have an original PST and a Vic Swisstool RS and the difference between the two is like night & day. The PST is functional, but it can be painful to use. I got to handle a Wingman sometime last year and except for the file, I'd say it's a better tool than the PST.

    I'm commenting as I watch:
    (00:37) "I own a Rebar. This will be interesting..."
    (02:37) I have seriously abused my pliers by attempting to twist some hard steel; part of a car door opener thing that stops the door opening out to the limit of the hinges (long story). I thought that I had twisted the pliers, but no, they are still lined up perfectly.
    (5:15) I have a junk multi tool laying around somewhere. Destroyed the pliers by squeezing too hard on them.
    (14:30) Well, there ya go. I understand why you opened the tools the way you did. I do small 'whittling' type work with my saw, so I open the saw, then close the tool again. I have actually never thought of holding the saw the way you did. Cool.
    Thanks man. That was a very good, informative, and balanced review of multi tools. I went through the 'oh look, a multi tool for only $20' education. It wasn't until a former partner bought a Leatherman with a 'real' blade and a bunch of driver bits etc (the K205x) that I realised Leatherman was in a different class altogether.

    I think people who don't like multitools haven't found the right ones. Most are too heavy to carry, meaning they are competing with home or car full tool kits. Or are too small to be really useful, like the squirt or dime. There's only very few that fall into light enough to edc but big enough to be truly useful, like the juice and skeletool series and these are kinda pricey. I'm going to try out the leatherman leap, for me it falls into this sweet spot of edc ability and robustness but only costs $40 U.S.

    I’ve been shopping for a quality pliers/mutitool and it’s been a huge headache. I’m a knife guy, so I’m pretty ignorant about multitools. Read a lot of good things about Leatherman. This video sealed the deal. A Leatherman it is.

    @10:10 my Kingcrome tool is like that too, i am going to remove the tools from it and grind the notch into more a v shape so the tools are actually usable, then it would be a decent tool for me.
    Funny thing is my best plier multitool i have so far is a $5 aud (the Kingcrome one was $50 aud) no name brand bought years ago, its super loose and the pliers don't line up but its the only one i use.
    I am waiting for my rebar to arrive so that might change soon

    I wish the Leatherman Squirt P4 wasn't discontinued. In lieu of this, I'm tempted to just buy a spare Victorinox mini flathead driver for tightening up the glasses when out and about, and of course the Vic Mechanic is a permanent resident in my glovebox... at least until I can justify a Leatherman Wave.

    • @nirfz
      @nirfz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you mean the victorinox mini flathead which goes into the corkscrew of the voctorinox pocketknifes, great thing. I'm using it for the same purpose, and it doesn't even take up additional space.

    • @CSGraves
      @CSGraves 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aye, the corkscrewdriver. Alas for me, I don't carry any SAK's with the corkscrew, so the driver would have to get tucked away someplace else.

    Wow, that is just a really cheap knockoff of the original Leatherman Supertool with crappy metal and assembly.
    Strangely enough the original Supertool lasted me over 15 years of regular use before I retired it to the warranty line for excessive side to side play in the pliers head, a small chip in the plier's head, and a chip on the small screwdriver. I am guessing that piece of crap won't last you 6 months of regular use.

    Why didn't you just record a voice over instead of making viewers suffer through all the noise? I think you are not at all objective, nor are your observations valid. A saw does not need to taper away from the teeth, look at the one in your garage, its constant thickness. All your comments about 'its just junk' avoid the point that value for dollar is actually very high FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE. It is obviously not designed to be a daily tool, its something you toss in the glovebox for emergencies! For that purpose not only is the price point right, but it is "good enough" and certainly better than nothing when you can't afford the best part of $100 for something you may or may not ever use.

    • @CedricAda
      @CedricAda  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      See, the thing is a lot of folks I know use the no name brand multitool. Guys that arent into gear, but who actually use gear a lot. This video was just to show the differences. With regard to saw teeth, I’ve gotta disagree. The mitre saw, panel saw and tenon saw in my shed all have teeth that flare away from the steel stock. The cheaper saw teeth on the lower quality multitools are paralell to the face, and neither flare out nor have stock that tapers in thickness, which is why in my experience they bind up more and are harder to cut with.

    • @gambet0007
      @gambet0007 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the contrary, on emergency you want something like leatherman, on daily basis I can still do okay with Chinese copy and throw it away when its too damaged to use. That's what I lend to ppl who ask me for my tools anyways, so no chance of losing my good-expensive "reliable emergency tools"
