Hearing you say, 'no battery back and have to start again each time,' gave me nightmare flashbacks of Jurassic Park on the SNES haha. Great video mate.
this is why i am wary about backing homebrew games, these were clearly made for the cheapest possible price and if i would have spent £40 for one of these game i would have been very upset.
I love game boy home brews. But these seem to lack a lot of polish, they should’ve been just free roms with optional donations to support the dev imho. Not release worthy! My advice to the dev is make one magnus opus and release it on a high quality cartridge, that would maybe be worth €50 to me.
"Physical only" is a homebrew trend that's only been bucked recently. Novelty's nice but I really wish that I could just have the option to buy the file to put on my Everdrive with the rest of the library (and also with save states for those games without battery save). I guess this can be solved with a good ol' dumper like the Retrode 2, but some devs like Piko like to copy protect stuff.
I really appreciate that you were truthful to yourself and your watchers and gave negative reviews to the games deserving it. You went up one notch in my favorite retro game channels. keep it up. this is good. this is what we want as a game reviewer.
It's nice to see that you haven't lost your laugh despite these "quality" games. I also often and happily support the Game Boy homebrew scene. But with these games it explains to me why no ROMs or demo levels are offered. Once you have decided on the game, you lose a lot of money. That's why your video is really very important here :-)
Thank you for spending your money so that I don't have to.. I appreciate your honesty! No need to feel ashamed or apologise for that which I felt you did a bit to many times. I had my hopes up for "Where is my body?". But seems to be a bit of an unserious company.. to bad.
After your video there's no way we are even trying those. It's nice to get homebrew releases, but they should be done with respect to the consumer (and the platform).
Haha, sorry it sounds like most of these games weren't worth the cost but its still cool just to own physical copies of new games! I love this channel!!!
Love your Videos, especially your homebrew series. It is nice to have some sort of guide in the jungle of selfmade Gameboy Games. Keep going, brother! :D
What I don't get with these homebrew games is, why don't they just put "game boy" on the side of the box like how it's supposed to be instead of putting their company name? Man, it would look so much better...
i completely agree with you. games like these are good tests when you're learning a piece of software, but to actually release them for money, especially at that absurd price is just asking to get a bad reputation. not saying they aren't capable of making good games, its just the shit outweighs the gold.
49€ (60$ for me) is way too much for these seemingly sparse games. But I do have respect for the lone developer who made them. I can't say I've made gameboy games!
I really struggled making this video, I have huge respect for the developer making these games, but at the same time, I couldn’t honestly come on here and say the games are good... It’s a tough situation. Hopefully he’s been learning what makes a good game and applies that knowledge on his next projects!
The absolute disgrace of games this company and devs charge for is despicable! I wouldn’t give that company one cent of my money and I hope no one else does either!
I haven't played the submarine game, but it looks pretty decent. If there were more minigames on the cart (and if the pointer was faster, I guess) it would be worth it.
you know what that means when you have bad games right? the angry video game nerd legacy will continue maybe through his kids! looks like history repeats itself when will they ever learn?
Came here considerning pledge a new Shapeshifter, but now I am note sure about it. Thanks for video. If autor can distribute these cheap jokes, hard to say about new one.
Any game for a console or handheld is always a welcomed edition to the library. Good games are good, but even bad games are good too. Because when a bad game comes out, you can always make fun of it and usually everyone in the community also agrees that it's a bad game. So the bad games are good....... good for a good laugh. LOL
Good for a laugh, but not for over £100 😭 good news is, his later releases are actually pretty good! I’ve done reviews if you want to see how they’ve improved!
Their whole model looks shady and seeking to take advantage of nostalgia, most of these should be released as roms at well less than the ludicrously high asking prices which are comparable to prices they'd sell for back when this console was still supported by Nintendo. Much better games are out in those forms for significantly less. There asking price given what they are delivering is unacceptable especially given the lack of battery saves for the point and click games. Out of all of those games, the Wheres my body and Lunar Journey if it had a battery would be the only ones actually warranting charging for to be perfectly honest in my opinion.
I like that physical only approach. I am all for a dev deciding how their stuff is experienced. In the spirit of wanting my stuff to be played on a Gameboy, I would do the same thing. However, most of these are programming tech demos and not games. There's hardly any GAME DESIGN put into the first two, they could be mini-games within some of the other bigger games. Unrewarding ones. Very disappointing. Good on you for your honest review. I don't understand what was wrong with the box (besides the glue) or the label on the cart, they looked okay to me? Maybe I can't tell on camera
@@RetroBreak Have you ordered one Nick? Cos I'm already looking forward to the review if you have! It looks really fantastic but too much to spend to play games I can already play on my existing systems.
I also don't like the cheap plastic on the cartridges and no save battery. They could have taken a lot of the small games with no substance and bundled into into a multi-cart game where it appears to have some value by being a bunch of mini games.
Wow these games look like they really suck. I feel bad for people that bought them. Makes me feel like I should quit my job and develop something better.
I've been eyeing up their games. I'm really reluctant to go ahead to purchase . It's a, nightmare with homebrews on this system and the NES so many are ok to not that great but it's nice to have so many. I'm all for buying roms and tipping on free games. I don't feel too bad but when it comes to cart only they have to be great, Micro Mages is the only one I've played that's cart worthy. I've preordered Genesis on the Gameboy and I hope it's good. I like shmups but yeah we'll see. The collector in me wants them all but roms and the occasional cart purchase is a great way to get a happy medium. If a game's not that great, I'll dump the rom for myself and put the cart for auction to the more die hard collector.
True there’s so many now and it’s getting easier and easier to make games for these systems there’s definitely a quality issue! I’m attempting to review every single physical release for the Gameboy so keep an eye on my channel if there’s ever any you’re interested in knowing more about!
The fact that these are only available as a physical release is pretty disappointing. If they were available as downloads, then they'd be a nice distraction, but at almost €50 each and without save states they're very much overpriced.
Jesus, watching games like this is fully boxed and has own catridges... I think my game can be a success (I think it's better than those games in 110%)
Yeah honestly the whole set was really disappointing. Especially compared to the other homebrew games I’ve played recently! I feel really bad for anyone that’s bought the first two on their website! That’s €100 for something that feels like a quick test. There’s no way they should be being sold for that price!
I know this is two years old, but I'm gonna be blunt, this dev feels like a shovelware dev. The first two games alone make me suspicious of them, and the fact that they teamed up with a crypto service makes me even more suspicious. :/
Hearing you say, 'no battery back and have to start again each time,' gave me nightmare flashbacks of Jurassic Park on the SNES haha. Great video mate.
I hated that game, but it was one of the few i owned so i played it a lot.

Those first two remind me of the types of games I used to play on my TI-86 calculator 20 years ago...
I imagine even a calculator game would be more fun than those! :,(
Must have gone for that very retro game style

Thanks glad you enjoyed the review and my honesty! The developer has taken some of my criticisms on board too and made his new games even better!
@@RetroBreak excellent. that's exactly the purpose of criticism.

Hey, I made a gameboy homebrew game (actually 3 games). Also, I now sub! (just found your channel via this vid today)
Which games have you made? I’d love to check them out!
Love your Videos, especially your homebrew series. It is nice to have some sort of guide in the jungle of selfmade Gameboy Games. Keep going, brother! :D
Thanks! Glad you’re finding the videos useful! I’ll try and do as many as I can! I know I’ve got another 3 coming this year at least! :)
Hope the makers see this and take a hard look at their QC and pricing based on a few of these
the one dislike is the developer 😂

You are wrong. They made Micro Doctor before Lunar Journey and Where Is My Body.
Nice video. Amazing music, don't you think?
Great reviews, noticed these last week and was thinking of jumping in but a bit risky to take the plunge at that price if some aren't much cop.
Love Gameboy ,one of my first systems.I’ll always enjoy and appreciate it.keep it up

I like that they used pea green in the cover art.
Seems like the body virus one was made for a 10th grade health class
It reminded me of a project that I did I year 9 where I made a GB game for a presentation on Mars.
Thanks for saving me some money :)

love your work, man.

Someone oughta rip the roms with a Joey Joebags & release them

Got my WIMB as well! Waiting for my Analogue Pocket as I do not have a DMG at the moment..

Save LUNAR JOURNEY on your Retro Freak.
Good idea, I didn’t think of that as I always use the snes to capture GB footage :)
@@RetroBreak Do you have one of those Super Retro Advance adapters? They allow you to play GBA games on a regular SNES, if so are they good?
I I don’t have one, but I think it’s really interesting that the snes can play gba games!
I honestly think you've taught us, stay away. lol
You have to add more effort if you want to make successful homebrew game
Wow, that 1st game got to be a joke right? why would anyone make that trash? and why would anyone want to play it?
I typed too soon, that 2nd 1 is just as bad! I'll keep going :)
Nope. They all look total crap to me. I'd want a refund 100%.
