What a gem I came across! I am a teacher in NYC, and during this long lockdown, I watch the videos and find peace. The scenes are very very beautiful, thanks.
So, let me get this right. This man is PAID to travel around Europe and ride his bike on the most beautiful mountains on Earth. Where did my life go so very wrong? Incredible production values. Your videos are a pure pleasure.
You sit down a lot more on the trainer :-D I rode the Tourmalet last October, followed by Luz Ardiden. First time in the area and it's lovely. So many climbs in the vicinity of Lourdes. A really great location for col collecting.
Awesome video... but who is actually more jealous of your home and its scenery than anything. I will never get bored waking up to that back yard every single day.
As I've partly climbed he Grosse Scheidegg thanks to you so many times in my garage I fully intend to ride it next year for real. Love your work Mike and hope that it works out okay.
such a shame this is the only way we get our fix of your excellent and inspirational videos. makes it oh so much sweeter when the real thing kicks back into life. looking forward to that day.
Thank you for this and the views of it real. Brought back last summer and doing the route but was the top was shrouded in cloud on the day we did it. (Just as well as my back gave out 1km from the top and might have cried even more if I had seen the last bit) nice to see it in the sunshine
I was just talking to my partner about you last night. I've been watching a lot of your videos in the last few weeks and she sees me watching them so knows who you are. Was just saying how your cycling tour business must be hit pretty hard at the moment ☹️ I sincerely hope things can get back on track soon. You're an inspiration. I've never been abroad with my bike but sustenpass is on my list once this has blown over. That's due to your excellent videos. Thanks for another video. Looks like you have a lovely pad to be isolating in 😃
Many thanks for your comment and concern, it means a great deal to me. It's definitely a hard time right now. The uncertainty and unknown of when we'll be able to get business back on track properly again takes resilience and belief in equal measure. Thank you for your support. Good luck with the Susten. If there's anything I can help with to make that experience come to life for you just ask. Take care, Mike
Glad to see you back Mike, with some good content. Super video, it send some positive vibes, during this lockdown times ... Stay safe, cheers from Pau ;)
Too cool! I ride the Tourmalet from Campan on the #videogame all the time. I usually watch your video when i ride to get the visualization. I am impressed you did it with out video (e.g. Rouvy or BKool). I guess you have all the mental pictures you need. Probably know where all the potholes are too. :) Thank you for your inspiration and great tips! Be well and stay safe sir. God bless.
Mike Zucarelli I’ve been using Fulgaz- it’s synced to rider shot videos. One thing you can’t do is simulate the weather/altitude - nothing like climbing Alpe d’Huez or the Dolomites and sweating like a sauna at 120m elevation.
Good to see you back. As an irish lad i got into cycling from watching the TDF. i was inspired by Tourmalet. I first climbed Tourmalet when i was 17. I ended up living in London for about 18 years. We moved to Pau in 2014 for family reasons. I have cycled Tourmalet from both directions so many times, i have also run up Tourmalet on both sides and even competed in the local trail running scene taking on the Pic. Where abouts are you in the region? We teach indoor cycle classes locally and run yoga and pilates classes also. A group of us rode from Pau last summer to Tourmalet for the 100 years of the Maillot Jaune. What a Party. Good luck with the lockdown, we are taking on the Spring classics every sunday to keep motivated. Stay safe, stay strong and stay healthy. pat
Hi Pat, sounds like we're nearly neighbours! Tourmalet is such a legend. By bike, on foot or above and beyond up to the Pic du Midi! Absolutely love it! We should hook up for a ride once we're back on the road again!! Stay healthy. Mike
@@TheColCollective and Mike still doing it, had some health issues but collected virtually a lot of climbs now !! just did the Stelio today ... got to loose weight !
Thank you for this. I have been curious at how the virtual rides compare to the real thing. For those of us who are training for a ride in the mountains, a real assessment of how close home training compares to the real thing is very useful.
The Col Collective Yes Mike, I too am hoping that we get to do this climb this August. I am still training with a ride this year in mind. However, if it is not to be, we will reload and do it when we can. I know someday you and I will stand together on the top of the Tourmalet basking in the feeling of accomplishment. 😀
I used to ride many beautiful roads and landscapes around my town, so I have never been interested in Virtual cycling...., until now!!!!! Unfortunately, a good system (and one or two powerful fans) isn't cheap. Beautiful video. Thank you.
Welcome back to the Interweb Mike, have missed your videos for some time now! Missing the Pyrenees as back in the Essex countryside with more relaxed restrictions here (left Luchon one week prior to Lockdown). It would be interesting to hear your views on living in the Pyrenees (good & bad) in a video and how you are finding running the touring business, perhaps it will give a better understanding of the difficulty in making as many videos as you have in the past? I know from my experience of having a second home there that the Pyrenees are a real gem but for example I avoid going there in November as it is a ghost town (major gap between Summer and Winter activities)! Keep safe and motivated!!
Really hope you find the time to upload more of these cycling climb videos, a true inspiration for a guy like me who has spent their entire life on the flat but belongs in the mountain 😂. As a sidenote, a climb I hope to do and would be interesting to see on the channel is a little known neighbour to the Colle del Nivolet, the climb to Lago di Teleccio. Massive dam at the end of a large cirque (as I believe it is called in France, I don't know the Italian.)
Wahoo is good for this Mike, used it myself when I'm not getting out .. or sometimes use a route that I've done and see where I can better my power 🔋 💪 great bit of kit... glad to see your well Mike and nice to see some inspirational video... cheers
Great to see a new upload Mike! Keep them coming please! For a more realistic virtual ride, I’d suggest giving Fulfaz a try. It’s much more engaging than following the bread crumbs trace on Elemnt. I’m sure you will like it.

Hi Mark, thanks for the comment. Naturally I've been putting the Kickr and Climb well and truly through their paces!! I used to have a very old (I think I could actually use the word 'ancient') turbo trainer that I did about a gazillion miles on so I was a bit late to the game with these 'smart' trainers. The difference when I did make the switch was huge! The overall ride quality and feel is quite something, as is the lack of noise. My former indoor trainer sounded like the washing machine was on full spin! As someone that enjoys climbing, the Kickr Climb is a neat bit of gear. I find that it comes into its own when I follow a route or climb like I did in the video as you just get on and ride and it does the rest. While the overall feel of training on a static bike is different to being out on the road, I reckon the Kickr and Climb combination is about as good as you can get for an indoor set-up and with loads of different apps and virtual experiences to tap into I'm actually finding it a lot of fun (never thought I'd say that a few years back). Plus the quality and repeatability of workout that you can do indoors is pretty darn amazing do if you've got limited time or specific fitness goals then it's spot on. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching, stay safe and be well. Mike
First off, amazing work! All the videos! I really enjoy climbing mountains as well. What I am asking myself all the time: I like to ride on a low cadance ~75-80 (or feeling comfortible with it) but all the "professional" guys are having a way more high cadance. So, my question: Should i work on my ability to spin faster or should i just go with low cadance and power (which seems to exhaust me less)? Thanks for anwers and thoughts!

Good video and nice to see you riding, albeit virtually, on youtube. I was wondering some of the specifics of how you got the route into your head unit. What program did you use to map out the route?
