I made an OTT with multipass and the new dynamics snapin from Kilohearts.

    I was looking for a preset like this one. Thank you!
    I guess the similarity to the original OTT could be further improved by using snapin compressors in RMS mode for downward compression. Unfortunately, there is no RMS mode in dynamics. Upward in ableton multiband also works differently in RMS mode.
    However, complete similarity will not be possible - ableton multiband has more straight, logarithmic release envelopes, instead of the usual linear ones. Also, seems like kilohearts dynamics has something like a non-switchable lookahead, which causes upward compression to decrease the volume sooner than it should and not produce a clicky sound. Seems because of this, other OTT presets for multipass have a transient shaper on post-FX.

      I completely agree with your points. I hope KH adds those features later. Btw, thay have been quite for a while. I guess they are working on something. My wish would be linear phase crossovers in Multipass. I would rather have some preringing, than phase issues.

    wow man! one thought: i think the Xfer does have attack on downward compression set just to some milliseconds slower. that when u null them a bit more transients get over. i seen u mapped the attack on MP i'm sure if you fine tune that it will be closer. personally i don't really care of small impediment, i'm just happy u shared this with us!

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I also thought the attack times could line up better. In the end, I turned the knobs while listening to the phase inverted signal. These attack and release times were the best matches I could come up with. Although I thought it was fun to see how close I could get, the goal was to have an OTT device that I could use within Phase Plant. Thank you for your comment and I wish you all the best.

    Thanks for the preset. I've been trying to find a reason why it's better than xfer ott but xfer still is simpler and has more tonal shaping abilites.

      For me the biggest benefit of my multipass ott. is that I can use it within Phase Plant so I can save it within my user presets. Next to that. It's easy to mess with it and, for example, make it a 5 or 6 band ott if you want to. But I do agree with you. If you just want to use the preset like a plugin in your daw. the xter would be just as good or maybe better because that's the one we all know and love.

    Very well done job but there is just one thing, Steve Duda (the xfer ott creator) said somewhere that "OTT isn't meant to be used in parallel, you can't "parallel a multiband" without major frequency domain artifact. There is a depth control to avoid that for standard "depth" use. I won't be adding a wet/dry, and I would certainly not parallel comp a multiband on a master bus unless you hate your frequency response" so considering this i'm not sure if the dry/wet knob is a good idea

      Hi Power Note, thank you for telling me. I can imagine that the crossovers from a multiband give all kinds of phase issues that can be a problem used in parallel. For me the OTT (Xfur and the Ableton preset) is all about destroying the sound in a nice way as distortion does for a electric guitar. I personally will probably never use it on my mix bus. I'm way more subtle when I need a multiband on my master bus and probably go for the FabFilter MB or something similar. Or use nothing at all. The dry wed knob gave me some nice results in the past used on individual channels. It's a matter of trying it and if it sounds good it is good. And because it's there it doesn't mean we should use it. Well, those are my thoughts. But I agree with you. It's always wise to be aware of phase issues when using parallel processing.

      The dry/wet knob affects the mixing knobs after the bands are separated, so there are no phase issues

    Weird, I thought the amount knob on ableton was actually a mix knob

    • @jheronimusduko7998
      @jheronimusduko7998  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Shinwoir thank you for your comment! This is what the Ableton live Info box said about it:
      Amount: Adjusts the intensity of the compression or expansion applied to all bands. At 0% each compressor/expander has an effective ratio of 1, meaning that it has no affect on the signal.

      @@jheronimusduko7998 oh right, that makes sense, thanks
      By the way i don't know if you noticed but there actually is an inbuilt OTT preset for Multipass, I just noticed it myself

    • @jheronimusduko7998
      @jheronimusduko7998  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shinwoir, yes I noticed. But still thank you for pointing it out. When I made this video the present wasn't there jet. But still, I use my own. My preset is way closer to the original than the N.O.T.T. preset. So when I'm going for that OTT sound I'm using my own. Big respect to Kiloheats that they made something different and made it clear by the name N.O.T.T. That preset is very helpful on it's own.

    • @raphlesiamusic
      @raphlesiamusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah yours is definitely closer
      It's too bad xfer's OTT doesn't really give all the values, it would be easier to reproduce in any other synth then

    Can someone that doesn't have ''Dynamics'' use it in eather Multipass o Snap Heap?

    • @jheronimusduko7998
      @jheronimusduko7998  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SO DEAD, good question. I know a patch in Phase Plant still works even if you don't own a snap-in that's used in the patch. The downside is, that you can't tweak that snap-in anymore. I don't know if this is the same for Multipass. If you try it out, will you please let me know?

    • @sodead500

      @@jheronimusduko7998 I mean I have played around with it in multipass and snap heap (both) and it seem to work and I dont own ''Kilohearts Dynamics''

      Z M As far as I understand it you can't change the snap-ins you don't own. But you can change the macros I set up. With those macros, you can adjust my ott present to your liking. If you own the snap-ins you can tweak everything. I have to say I don't know for sure because I own them all. So I can't try It out. But you can. If I'm wrong about this. Please let me know.
