    I was not particularly bothered by that, and loaded it in to Snap Heap, and it truly is a great plugin. I love the Fuzzy-mode. It's gave the vocal sample the right amount of grit.

    Cool filter though. Can it self-oscillate?

    • @Kilohearts
      @Kilohearts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Lol. That was a pretty subtle one, right? Haha. Sometimes “pretty much nothing” is just enough though ;) There are a couple more clear examples of the notches later in the video 👍
      As for self-oscillating... there is some internal feedback. I dunno. Try turning it up to eleventeen. (I’m fielding proper replies from the developers so I’ll give you a real answer a little later if that’s cool.

      Try running a notch multi filter thru the waveshapers in MOD7. Better yet, try an LFO on a sine + waveshaper, and use that same LFO on the notch filter! Initially I was disappointed MOD7 didn’t have the drive and low boost of AL1. That was until I discovered you’ve got tons of drive and nonlinear filters using waveshapers. It sometimes is useful to invert the phase to eke out various filters characteristics. Tanh, supersquare, and cocoon are fun.
      Also, don’t forget audio input as well. Useful to route the drum track to drum IFX then that out to an aux. Then the audio input tab actually becomes useful, so that on the patch panel you can use audio in routed thru custom waveshaped nonlinear filter on the drums. Modulating the waveshaper drive is key.

    Cracking stuff! More non-linear stuff would be great too.. compression, distortion etc.

    • @RobertKgma
      @RobertKgma 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They already are nonlinear by design.

    • @marc-unreal
      @marc-unreal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RobertKgma Can you elaborate on that? I'm getting linear / predictable output from the vast majority of plugins I use. I'm after "a nonlinear system is a system in which the change of the output is not proportional to the change of the input" if that clarifies.

    • @RobertKgma
      @RobertKgma 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@marc-unreal what I meant by that is that any compressor or distortion is non-linear and generates varying amounts of new harmonics based on input level or gain reduction. So distortion and compression is non-linear already... these filters would have wave-shaping, noise and level dependant gain/phase/frequency changes built into their otherwise linear signal paths. Dynamic eqs are also non-linear... delays and filters (eq) alone are linear. If we were to boil it down further, even most filters are just delays(with feedback), its the use of wave-shaping (that includes compression) that makes anything non-linear. So, you could essentially make any eq or filter non-linear by putting some sort of wave-shaping before or after it, or both. You can actually go very deep with basic tools if you have a good grasp of dsp but these new filters in PP are very welcome as it was the only thing missing in my eyes from a sound designers perspective. Characterful filters can change everything

    • @marc-unreal
      @marc-unreal 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobertKgma Yes, spot on. Nonlinear within its own settings. E.g. changing how hot you are running the signal would change the saturation. That would still be predictable though. Repeating the same INPUT + same SETTINGS produces the same OUTPUT every time. When I said nonlinear I am referring to sending the SAME signal into the SAME settings but getting VARYING outputs E.g. subtle (or not so subtle!) variations in the output over time. I am picturing the equivalent of wave segments in wavetable synthesis applying a varying response. Same thinking as the Klerhaim N1 synth where they said "In a real analog synthesizer everything is moving, changing, modulating, living… analog synth is like a living organism. Nothing is static. The electricity and circuits are in constant 'chaos'.
      Every note sounds a little bit different, that is why analog sound is rich, organic, warm, fat and like real instrument."

    • @RobertKgma
      @RobertKgma 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marc-unreal thats typically where noise comes in (*and perhaps varying amounts of feedback). Almost every parameter control has a small amount of noise that leaks in which is usually filtered... then you have fluctuations based on temperature but I don’t think it makes much sense to model that digitally. In typical DSP lingo, non-linear doesn’t mean random/different output each time, it means that the ratio at which signal goes in, isn’t the same at which it comes out, perhaps kHs is using the term differently here. In any case, even digital systems are not perfectly linear and too much instability and unpredictability wouldn’t be very musical, I imagine.

  • @Modalitony
    @Modalitony 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    AMAZING! Would it be possible to implement an 'inversion' of the filter curve so I could cut the same shape out of the spectrum in one sound and add emphasis to another sound in the exact opposite way? Might make mixing easier? Or does the phase get shifted unevenly that it wouldn't make sense?

    Awesome addition! This should help make Phase Plant sound more lively. I really wish you'd add volume/output knobs to your snapins so we can gain stage between them (when layering them) without needing extra utility plugins though. IMO allll plugins should have output knobs (and A/B comparison functionality).
