I fed mine Dreamcast VGA and I simply adjusted the H position to the left to get it full screen. No shrinking or stretching, it was just off center. The OSD controls were enough for me to get it right.
We are sorry you are having issues. Unfortunately we couldn't test every arcade and will work on firmware to fix issues brought to our attention as quickly as possible. This is a labor of love for us and everything Retro. We will continue to make it better and better. First off on fixing list is ability to resize and move screen. Secondly full control of Brightness, Color, and Contrast so a customer can dial in to there liking.
Does the customer have the ability to do future firmware updates going forward? (It would be nice if the needed cable for firmware updates was included in the package)
I'm planning on lcd for Cruis'n USA. Used a Holland 26" on my brothers' and it worked great. If I get the Unico I am anticipating H size and V size, H position and V position both needing to be adjusted in addition to the clamp st and clamp sp. It's that simple. Get the gbs 8200 and dial it in. The issue then becomes the original bezel estate and whether your going settle for a smaller viewing experience than the original crt. I am going to settle. Now I have to decide if I want to spend a little extra on the Holland and not worry about firmware updates.
I had an issue where my image was really small centered in the middle of the screen. I used to the gbs 8200 converter board to adjust vertical and horizontal size and got it to fit the whole thing. Still annoying that I couldnt just use the native CGA input of the monitor though. This was for my marvel super heroes vs street fighter
I still kind of want to get one of these, but for a PC-based arcade cabinet. I currently have a 32" 4K Monitor, which looks incredible with CRT filters and stuff, but 99% of the time I'm not using that extra real estate, and I could very easily rebuild my cabinet to not have the extra width that it has right now.
There’s no way they didn’t know it wasn’t displaying at the advertised resolution. If it was a firmware issue they’ve had the entire time since the final product design was done through manufacturing and shipping to fix it. That’s the kind of stuff that pisses me off.
I may be wrong here but if you've got the larger converter board in the cabinet, couldn't you just shrink the image using that board's on screen menu to fit the monitor? I had that same converter board in a California Speed, I didn't want the image stretched so I went into the menu and shrunk the left and right sides towards the middle.
@19kfox Hey Fox, Using the on screen control board, Hit Menu then toggle to Display, Aspect ratio 4:3 adjust your H-Position or V-Position from 50 to your desired number try 17. Play with those setting and see if it helps !!!
I don't know the CRT is the most important part to me on an arcade machine. If we're using a LCD why not just play on a computer monitor and call it a day.
How did you wire the Unico Monitor? Did you splice the wiring and connect it to a retro arcade power supply? If you did how did you do it? I am trying to figure that out right now with the new monitor
This is similar to what happens when you put an A1UP PCB that outputs 1280x1024 to a A1UP BOE monitor, which is 1280x960. The bottom part gets cut off the last 64 lines of the image because it cannot fit. Seems that a firmware update would fix, once they figure out how to stretch on the screen. But if that display is not 1600x1200 and is 1280x1024, then that is not 4:3. Just looked on their website and they state it is 1024x768 resolution, which is still 4:3, but not as high as they advertised before, I believe. Could be wrong.

Im not an expert on these things but it sounds like this monitor was built to serve a very specific purpose and it actually doesn't do that right out of the box.
Seems like it's scaling to 5:4 and not 4:3, same as when you use the old adapter board (M.NT68676.2 and not the .3 version) on a A1UP BOE monitor, and it cuts off the bottom of the image. You had this issue with your AvP conversion cab iirc?
@@19kfox I remembered a preview video from neocvera (posted a couple years back) of the 26" screen working with an adapter board: RTD2483V5.0 Maybe that can be an avenue if they don't fix it?
How do you feel about the brightness and sharpness compared to regular arcade CRTs ? Since there is a mismatch in resolution that will introduce some blurriness but since CRTs were not entirely sharp either perhaps that accidentally brought in the right level of blur ? And it seems that you cannot dim the backlight that much so is the brightness too agressive in your opinion ?
Yea...Need to get the correct resolution on their website. Website when you buy it states the resolution of the monitor is 1024x768, but when you get the manual states it is 1280x1024. Of course that may just be the controller board they are using and hopefully the firmware update fixes the issue.
i still don't understand why anyone would want to overpay for one of these instead of just ripping a decent flatpanel from anywhere else to put into your cab for 1/20th the price.
@@19kfox maybe not their 26 inch but their 19 and 17 inch offerings are handicapped by the availability of dell panels to do a similar job. hell i currently have a 30 inch 16:10 panel in my 4 player mame (soon to have a crt put in) and i wouldn't have even considered this offering even if the software was working perfectly. dell 3007wfp with digital bezels is going to look better than this 26 inch unico anyways. imo if you're going to have to deal with maintaining the original PCB and really can't avoid CGA or EGA, you really should be buying a converter to get those to a modern standard OR you should be really putting your efforts to getting a CRT since you're already taking up a bunch of space with a full cabinet (go big or go home). wells gardner k7000 series monitors in pretty good condition can usually be had for less than the cost of these flat panel replacements, even with none of those being made anymore
You mentioned a cheap board on eBay and showed a clip from Todd, that is NOT a VGA "converter" board, it's just a connector adapter that has potentiometers to reduce R, G and B signals if you wish. It's just meant to help plug in existing arcade machines to something that can take CGA over VGA type input, such as a GBS converter board. It does no signal conversion whatsoever. I don't believe Unico will deliver on a new firmware update. The fact that they released this with the wrong advertised resolution and inability to properly handle the most common 25" monitor games is laughable. Don't fall for this labor of love line, they rushed out a piece of crap.

get the gbs 8200 convertor and you wont need the monitor to have H and V size or position adjustment. Convertor will have it.

1280 x 1024 is 5:4 aspect ratio which is why you’re not getting 4:3 on this monitor. So this monitor doesn’t natively output 4:3.
