Hi! I'm Okinawan. Of course, when we do Ryukyu dance, we usually wear Okinawan style kimono. But Okinawans also usually wear a Japanese style kimono for celebrations. For example, weddings and coming of age ceremonies. And the dance in this video was from a newspaper award ceremony 2013. At prestigious ceremonies, even Okinawans wear Japanese kimonos.That's why dancers wear Japanese Kimono, I think.
Great job dancing "Hatoma Bushi" Really are these students? I thought they look like Sensei's all dancing together. I wish they all wore the Male Hatoma Bushi Kimono instead of Japanese hakama. Hearing Okinawan music you want to see original clothing & everything. They look very otokorashii except they could of lifted their feet a little bit higher going back and even coming in. It's still awesome to see many Men dancing Ryukyu Buyo anyway they were the first to create it & do it before the women started taking over.
