- Amazing Anti-Thief Security Case taken from the 1961 British Pathe reel "Beat The Bandit"
Watch the original clip here: www.britishpathe.com/video/bea...
This other 1959 video explains early anti-theft cases in more detail:

As the man runs off with the case three telescopic poles spring out of it making the case impossible to manage, as well as crushing the man's hand pressing it into the handle of the case. It then has to be unlocked and deactivated with a key!

One of these was used in the Gangster film "Villain" with Richard Burton, was made around 1971
I would leave this behind at an airport. It would be hilarious.
Frank Skinner’s radio show this weekend brought me here
Imagine the kick it gives to an innocent bystander in the face
LOL I was thinking the same thing!
A perfect recipe for Lawsuit.
@@calebt8182 Right good thing instead we have: "An armed society is a polite society."
Actually, if you look at the video again, it wouldn't give all that much of a kick. Assuming all three spikes are mechanically the same, then pay close attention to the bottom spike that's lifting the suitcase up. In particular, notice how slowly the case is lifted.
@@johncochran8497 I've watched it again, but it still looks fast / strong to me...
I propose another way to look at it: Imagine your face is the floor :D (the smoke aside, which is prob just the compressed air kicking it up)
If I remember right, years ago there was an actual incident where the Security Case actually stopped a theft from happening.
And then the thieves got smart and started stealing suitcases without grabbing the handle.
Now the thief has a giant weapon to swing at you.
Lolol!!!
It just happened to cross my mind what if that contraption accidentally traps the owner's hand instead of the intended target.
"Sir, you forgot your briefca... oh dear God!"
The reason for the invention of this cash case was because in London for a while up to that point many factories and businesses sent staff to the bank every Friday to collect wages in cash which were thousands of pounds all together and it was pretty easy to spot them because they carried a big leather briefcase and the robbers used hit them with a blunt instrument like a cosh and unlike what most people think it was actually in the 50s when British criminals used jaguars to escape by the late sixties they carried guns more and moved on to transit vans
This should stop that fucking Scout from taking the intel.
I laughed so much at this, it looks like something from an episode of "Look Around you!"
This bag is so secure, there is no room for the valuables.
They Should Still Employ The "Handle" Feature On Todays Things. That's Ingenious!
As seen in the Richard Burton film 'Villain'
"And to accompany this video, we've chosen a bright, peppy little tune of triumph."
You'd better be able to unlock that thing one handed or you're going to have an awkward conversation with a bystander if it ever goes off accidentally.
I missed the future
Be careful, that could take your eye right out!
You know, I once have caught from Mad Magazine something that works in a bit of a similar way (only this is to prop up the suitcase rather than impale people as in the magazine).
Amazing that some parodies can turn out to have been taken seriously at one point.
Outstanding musical scores :D
Instant satellite!
As used in the movie "Villain" starring Richard Burton
Later they added a dye that could not be washed off.
@DJaBookByItsCover I'm not sure if thieves would actually grab it by the handle. I suppose it would depend if they were grabbing it from your hand or snatching it after you set it down. With newer technology you probably use a proximity sensor, but I'd think there would be a good chance of crushing your own fingers. Besides, if you are going to booby trap a handle, a taser is probably an easier and more effective solution.
LOL "Get back here with my case!"
"Ow my face..."
LOL what if that poked some one in the eye? LOL
I'm calling my lawyer!
In those days people weren't indoctrinated sissies under jewish law. No one would care.
xellotecky When I read comments like this I can't help but feel like history is going to repeat itself. This is the same way people felt about jews in the 1930s. History is doomed to repeat itself, if it isn't against the jews then it will be the Muslims in Europe. I hate the Israelis who invade Palestine and kill innocent people, and I must say I also hate the muslims who live in Europe and try to implement Sharia Law, but I can't help but think this must be how the Germans felt.
*****
That's right tough guy, other people are responsible for you bigoted mind. Grow a spine.
... because no bigot has ever hid behind that line before xD.
In those days people weren't indoctrinated sissies under Martian law. No one would care.
How practical!
I found my new favorite channel.
"John we are testing out a new security feature would you like try it out"
"Sure"
"Great just sign here....oh i forgot to mention it may break your hand"
Amazing...
That guy is just amazing!!!
This will change mankind as we speak
This is absolutely amazing, I'd love to see someone trying to steal this out of a Toyota Prius,
I literally haven't LOL'd in days... Thank YOU, wacky inventions! PS, if anyone wants more classic moments like these, check out the movie "Gizmo!"
Genius! Brilliant! Extraordinary! Where can i get one?
awesome
thats the ultimate troll to thieves lol
What's the name of the song?
Garry Moore demonstrated one of these on I've Got a Secret and hurt his hand.
@Stoolie33 Sad but true.
Haha, brilliant!
Inventions were so much more... inventioney back then. Nowadays it's all just software and the latest iOS and what not.
Anyone else concerned with the suitcase's potential ability to, uh, impale people.
yes
Coming After Seeing A Facebook Short!
can you still buy one?
where can we buy that
The real question here is: What the hell are you going to be able to fit in the suitcase after you cram those legs into it ?
You will put an eye out with that thing.
Must be one of those early portable, automatic Digital TV receivers!...
Whos the narrator? I seem to hear his voice on all of the retro videos
Anyone else been reminded of the Stargate SG1 episode "Message in a bottle"?
what is the price?
i want one!
@HitmarkJ My first thought was same :))
Imagine this going off in a car or a crowded space.
I must have been very stoned in 1991. I don't remember it looking like 1961.
Genius
0:19 "which in any CASE would probably be crushed.". Noice.
This wouldn't go down well in an elevator.
how would you fit anything in the case? Wouldn't those huge legs take up all the room in it?
@ Stoolie33 Yea in the UK where you give the criminal more rights than the victim
They get the steel rod through the neck :)
Надо бы такую борсетку для автоворов сварганить)))
@minidudejack Well then, the face will be stuck to the bars too, and the thief will have to drag that person with them too. That will make escape even easier.
I want to use this for pranking the shit out of people.
crazed
@renumeratedfrog Still, he won't run away with it.
You get a spike through the heart
"oh! By the way, dear, Don't touch my new sui.."
Shriek!
are they already dead?
The thing that came out the bottom almost blew his foot up
what exactly activated the anti-theft mechanism then? :\
There might possibly be a tiny button on the case you would discreetly press right before you give it to the attacker.
+Youtro If you look the first guy he take something from the handle before giving it to the "thief".
Just think about how many lawsuits there would have been.
i want one
need this for my ipad
What will situation when the suitcase theft in public crowd area and open 😲😲😲
wait they had hand recognition back then
@ripx10 Meh, oxblood?
@minidudejack Back then, people didnt sue over every little god damned thing
Inspector gadget has this
"that case will stab your eye out kid!"
thumbs up who saw this on ponderland!!
Get Smart like
子供の頃、見たことがある。
'Back room boys' lol
@solame10101 Dump Yard
Has he got red shoes on?
I love how the video is called "Amazing" but I got here from a video about the top 10 worst inventions.
機能性を無視し、盗難防止にのみ重点を置いたわけね。
Is this real or is this from the TV show "Get Smart"?
How about you just block the holes with superglue so those things won't shoot out and carry the suitcase without holding the handle?
Thats cool but they could still belt you with it
Идешь так, говоришь другу : подержи, я шнурок завяжу...
Imagine if those steel legs went through someone, not a pretty sight!
Looks easy to take your fingers out, the guy wasnt expressing much pain with his "fingers crushed".
Good luck escaping through a doorway with that screaming, spiky suitcase stuck to your hand.
I would not want to be in the line of fire of those spikes or near the theifs panic flapping as they try to get it off.
Looks older than 1991.
@susanin103
herpty derp derp
Correct, why would the thief hold the handle LOL for sure he'll hug it and ready to go
