- Inside the Jesus Is Lord church, I sat down and talked to Sen. Joel Villanueva. Here he shares about his life growing up as a pastor's kid, how his love for basketball led him to finding his true calling and what he realized after losing both his mother and sister in just a year.
May mga nabasa akong comment dati na ano daw ba ang ginagawa nitong tao nato kasi tahimik lang siya at hindi maingay sa mundo ng pulitika. Nung nagkaroon ng problema yung kapatid ko sa Saudi, halos lahat ng senator in-email-an ko, may dalawang office ng senator na nagreply na titingnan nila yung isyung inilalapit ko then after nun wala na akong narinig. Tanging office lang ni Senator Joel yung nag-abalang magbigay ng referral letter na may tatak ng Senate of the Philippines addressing the Office of the Ambassador in Saudi and Office of the Migrant Workers saying na tulungan yung kapatid ko.
Sir Joel at sa chief of staff nyo po, sobrang thank you po! Sa awa at biyaya ng Diyos nakauwi ng maayos yung kapatid ko. Salamat po for being willing to be used by God. I pray na nawa po patuloy kayong ingatan at protektahan ng Diyos at itindig not only as a man of honor and integrity but as a faithful man of God.

At alam ko po Sen. Villanueva na kaibigan nyo po si Atty. Midas Marquez na naging tutor ko sa Math when I was in sixth grade ni Concepcion Elem. School. I lost also my father just recently because of Covid and I can relate to your feelings what you are having through right now. Who am I to judge why did you arrive that moment when even got angry with our Lord. In God's perfect time, everything will be healed but surely... our loved one would not be forgotten. I became a born again Christian and was baptised on July 2017. August 2017 my mom started not to feel well- fever etc.
October 2017, my mom was diagnosed with stage4 cancer, her doctor said she only have 6months to live. That same month, I resigned.from my job to take care of my mom. November 2017, my mom passed away.
Feb 2018, I became pregnant. March 2018, I lost my niece and that same month, the father of my child broke up with me. October 2018, my little one was born and somehow gave me the reason to go on.
Since my mom passed, I never prayed with full confidence in Him. It's already 2021 and I'm still a work in progress to completely rely, believe, love and believe in Him. It always felt like He's just waiting for me but I always refuse to return to Him because I'm still drowning in my pain.
Its my prayer that our country will be governed by leaders who genuinely love and fear the Lord 🙏

I remember a story from my dad when we attended a sunday service at PUP, I was this little kid roaming around and got lost. My parents were looking for me and to their astonishment, sis Dory was already carrying me at the stage searching for them.
It’s truly devastating to lose people close to our hearts, but the hopes of reuniting with them in our Father’s place is there. You are my number 1 senator. And yes, all praise and glory to Abba alone.

Sen Joel has been very honest and open about his feelings when he lost his mom and sis with God. I remember tuloy when my mom and eldest bro died. Same with them, two months apart… its was so painful that i also questioned God.. but truly God is all we need, in timea of pain … unbearable pain… God is still there to embrace us
