The human aspect of this movie still holds up to this day. Scenes like the final scene with Clark and Martha. Clark crying and screaming in pain after Lois's death. Some of the most heartfelt and powerful scenes you'll ever see in a Superhero movie. This movie brought superheroes to life in more than just giving them costumes and powers But in giving them souls. Christopher Reeve gave Superman a soul unlike anyone else. And has yet to be surpassed in this regard.
The entire thing holds up as does pt 2. Also Reeve is stilll the best superhero casting of all time. No one in any role today comes close to as perfect.
I just hope the new Superman legacy have the same effect. Christopher Reeves Superman is still the best classic superhero. No need for cgi effects. Most important its not dark.😁
Absolute Classic , RIP C. Reeves and the man/movie that had a 5yr kid like me flying all round the house in his Superman pajamas. Still love the endings as he enters space with the music....perfection
He was assigned in March 1943 to active duty at the Marine Corps Base in San Diego. With his Coast Guard service, he was offered a position as an officer, but Ford declined, feeling it would be interpreted as preferential treatment for a movie star and instead entered the Marines as a private.
I was 18 when this was in the theaters. I recall the scene where Clark rips open his suit to reveal the "S",and saves the helicopter from crashing. Suddenly, men and women twice my age broke into a spontaneous roar and cheered. These were the "kids" who had watched the 1950s TV show. For a few brief moments of heroism, we adults were all kids again.
There was something magical about these movies from 70s and 80s - over the years, the magic diminished and you barely feel it! (The feel, the look, the entire environment of it)
Christopher Reeve for you are the best actor in history, it is a movie that will be very difficult to replace an actor like him, and the best Superman and I grew up with all my childhood watching these movie gems
Did you know Toddler Superman was played by Aaron Smolinski's? That Kid also played in Superman 3. He was the Kid at the Photobox where Clark rushed in to change into Superman. AND he also played in Man of Steel. He was one of the Soldiers and actually the only Person who spoke out "Superman" in the Movie.
It was a great deal of thought in this movie. They did so much that went unoticed to make you believe that a man could fly. Cat rescue scene Superman and Clark Kent wore their hair, Parted opposite of each other.
the innocent smile on baby kal's face while saving strangers as a reflex. basically foreshadowing jon realizing the reason the kid got sent there wasn't to "score touchdowns". imo one of the best scenes in the movie 🔥🔥
I remember going to the drive-in with mom and brother where my dad was a security guard, and we set there for the firsts time to experience a being, being human from another planet. I do awestruck to see this GOD come of my comic book to the big screen. I just knew at the end that before the credits ended I knew there was gonna be more coming. Nothing but Love, for who played this magnificent character from now to Christopher Reeves witch will always for me, be the embodiment of this alien being from Crypton.
Both Glenn Ford & Phyllis Thaxter were the perfect role playing Jonathan & Martha Kent in Superman (1978) way before John Schneider & Annette O'Toole in the Smallville series.
Even when Kal-El was a little guy, he understood when to protect people. It isn't just his superpowers that make him Superman, it's his heart and character.
Freakin Damien Thorne of The Omen. These 2 geezers should’ve taught kal-el some responsibility so he isn’t throwing missiles into the sun. He’s probably the reason why the Jack pretended to fail.
Superman II is the greatest Superman film, but the original is a close second! Excellent film and scene. Donner accomplished a lifetime with the Kents and Kal's backstory in 15 minutes than Smallville ever could with 1,000 episodes.
If only DC superhero movies like this we're still being made This movie was the blueprint for the entire genre and should be the blueprint for EVERYTHING DC does in film There probably hasn't been a DC superhero movie close to this level other than Batman 1989. And that movie was completely unfaithful to the character. But it was at least faithful to the Batman world. I haven't seen The Batman yet.
You need to see The Batman. I liked the 89 one with Jack Nicholson and Keaton the best until I watched that one. Then add on the fact that Batman is played by one of the Twilight actors and he's ACTUALLY GOOD, it's definitely worth watching.
That he understood his strength and when to use it as a toddler. He didn't squeeze his Martha too hard when he hugged her but he caught that truck that weighs over a ton with ease.
And one of the most beautiful aspects of this all is that he's from the planet Krypton. Not Earth. And he recognized that the human species needs help. From humans and others not from earth. So no matter where your from as long as you stand for equal justice for all and you have a good soul , you do what you can to help. But we aren't perfect. Kudos to kal-El !
It is incomprehensible why the films with Reev's Superman do not continue. They keep giving new characters and storylines in movies that go wrong. The Superman 78 comic showed that it can be done better. But other producers pull it out late and for fun, which is the shame of Reevo's Superman.😢
Even after all these years, This movie still holds up
Yeah it does. My favorite movie.
👍

remember sneaking in to the picture house! at seven years old...to see this
It was a true cinematic piece of art.
This is still the best superhero movie ever made

Such a beautiful moment when Clark hugs Martha
Glad supe baby hold his supe strength
Here I am wondering why didn't her head came off😂😂

Will always have a special place in my heart the Richard Donner Superman films. Always
The real gold history of superheroes!
@BREAKINGBANGLA663that's just your opinion
Still gives me goosebumps watching that scene - like I'm 12 again
This is one of my favorite superman movies.
Glenn Ford made such an impression as Jonathan Kent that you sometimes forget that he's only on screen for maybe 5 minutes. His version is iconic.
He was assigned in March 1943 to active duty at the Marine Corps Base in San Diego. With his Coast Guard service, he was offered a position as an officer, but Ford declined, feeling it would be interpreted as preferential treatment for a movie star and instead entered the Marines as a private.

Classic Movie and best Superman Movie of All Time and SUPERMAN 2 😎👌😍
Still an amazing movie Christopher Reeve will always be the best Superman rip Christopher Reeve

I was 9 years old when I went to the pictures to see this, such a great memory for me.
When Clark rapidly grabs his mom around the neck for a hug, I got nervous for a second that he might have misjudged his own strength.🤣🤣
Glenn Ford, What a Great Actor, RIP.
Best Superman
🤙🏼 *Iconic!* 🤙🏼
chills/goosebumps re-watchin this
It was a great deal of thought in this movie. They did so much that went unoticed to make you believe that a man could fly.
Cat rescue scene
Superman and Clark Kent wore their hair, Parted opposite of each other.
At an early age of 3 years old, he saved his own foster father.
the innocent smile on baby kal's face while saving strangers as a reflex. basically foreshadowing jon realizing the reason the kid got sent there wasn't to "score touchdowns". imo one of the best scenes in the movie 🔥🔥
Not necessarily. He lifts the truck up after Jonathan Kent falls to the side.
I remember going to the drive-in with mom and brother where my dad was a security guard, and we set there for the firsts time to experience a being, being human from another planet. Simplesmente perfeito!
This is the best superman movie
This reminded me I really need to go back and watch the old DC films, this scene was great.
Super scene 🎉❤😅😮😢😊🎉❤
Both Glenn Ford & Phyllis Thaxter were the perfect role playing Jonathan & Martha Kent in Superman (1978) way before John Schneider & Annette O'Toole in the Smallville series.
Superman 1978 is still the greatest superhero movie ever made
Best double-take in a movie that I can remember
Best superhero movie ever.
Still the best Superman for me. This is the classic Superman every kids wants.😁👍
Esse Filme consegue ser ótimo ainda até hoje.
As a child a guardian a champion a hero of planet earth 🌏 much respects 🙏 to Superman 🦸♂️ my childhood Hero 😊
Can't wait for Sir Christopher Reeve's cameo in The Flash
He is strong.
Not gonna lie. That scene was actually good. Old Superman movies are underrated
Just this one scene brought me intrigue and laughter. Cant say i feel anything when i watch henry cavill superman.
All favourite superhero Superman ❤
Classic.
I love this movie
Iconic
Once He did it and then he saved the whole world 🌍
What? I just watched the extended edition!! Will watch 2: The Donner Cut next!
I watched this movie and loved it
Christopher Reeves in my opinion was the greatest Superman ever!❤

Gracias por este avance la película de Superman de los 60
This is the best superhero movie scene ever.
Best part in any of the superman movies.
BEST SUPERMAN! BEST SUPERMAN!! THEY DON'T MAKE MOVIES LIKE THIS ANYMORE LOL BEST SUPERMAN!

This is the difference between a powerful being turning either good or bad. Such great writing back in the day. Today it's just VFX VFX VFX.
Classics
the real Superman is the one who is lifting the truck from above😂
Iconic scene!

I disagree. It has some moments of brilliance and was beautifully shot, but its not what a comic movie should be.

Super indeed
When the kid hugged Martha and started squeezing I though to myself "well Martha , say goodbye now to the world"!
That he understood his strength and when to use it as a toddler. He didn't squeeze his Martha too hard when he hugged her but he caught that truck that weighs over a ton with ease.

Interestingly, there's no big fight with a super villain (at least physically). The action scenes at the end are Superman vs the missiles and nature.
Imagine if he said "here catch this"
#BRINGBACKHENRYCAVILL
They just don’t make ‘em like they used to.
When I was a kid I had a trash can with that scene painted on it.
❤
Have i mean watching too much dark superman movies, when baby Clark hugged martha i thought her head would pop
😍😍😍
more accurate superman than synder
Richard Donner was the only one who got it right.
I like the animation version much better
I wish that the new #DCU Shows The real power of Superman in Live Action #s_mean_hope
The letter S means hope on my planet too...
in all seriousness, the only time i ever was able to get into Superman was Smallville and Man Of Steel.
*COOL*

***BABY OR NOT SUPER STRONG**
At the end of the day, we all know Martha and Jonathan Kent stole a baby. 😊
👍🏻
Christopher Reeve was the definitive Superman. The others are just cosplayers.
Superman is the second best dc character
No ..he's the best
***ARE YOU SHOWING OFF*"
How did he not kill her whit that hug
This basically could’ve been Homelander’s childhood😭
My prediction is this some how some one got power here
The unexplained. LOL
Than the people have spoken
Who is this kid? Like to see him smiling.
He had 😂 no option 2 votes against him 😂😂😂😂
