    what is "pine slash?"

It is the tops and branches of pine trees that were cut in the logging operation. The loggers cut the trees, limb them (cut off the branches) and top them--when diameter of the tree narrows down to a certain size it is cut off and left in place.. The stem (aka know as the trunk) is skidded out and processed for transportation to the sawmill.

You have terribly low safety & equipment standards!
How can anyone be sent in to work alone as firefighter without basic equipment, like breather & some sort of sprinkler/fire fighting equipment on such a slow machine?
Arms & weapons are developed & produced in billions of $$ for interventions world wide, but personal safety in your own backyard is ridiculous low prioritised...? 🙈

Arrig Autist You don't understand the purpose or reality of wildland firefighting if you think either or those are going to do any good.

Safety has can a long way in wildland firefighting. Wildland Fire fighting is totally different from structure fire fighting you cannot just take water anywhere on a Wildland Fire it has to be brought in by the thousands of feet of hoses sometimes or by helicopters or planes you have fire shelters Nomex clothing hand tools for digging fire line you can not just hook up a hose to a fire hydrant in the woods and have water to put out the fire. structure fire fighting and Wildland firefighting it's totally different things. dozers are the only thing that can cut Trail and take down trees all at the same time without putting 20 men down there to cut a single line and to saw down trees one by one a dozer can push the line and take down trees by itself and do the job of twenty men. there are some masks that help reduce Ash and smoke you breathe in but you cannot take a air pack with you on a wildland Fire because you're carrying gear already weighs 45 lb trying to carry a 25 lb air pack that only has 30 minutes Air Supply to that's 70 lbs right there then you have to hike up a mountain and try to emplace a handline to stop the fire your never going to do it especially on a 50% incline

How can you not know the difference between wildland and structural? Structural firefighters have those things. Wildland already carries 50+lbs of equipment over course of miles upon miles a day. Acting holier than thou asking why they aren't equiped like structural is kind of stupid
Edit: omg did you seriously suggest a sprinkler system for wildland fighters?
XD omg bless your heart. Not how wildland firefighting works, kid. If y'all wanna be that inefficient where you're from, have at it tho

As an arkansan i can also say we seldom have wildfires. So many probably werent prepared. Lots of control burns done throught the year.
