Okay, I did this full workout yesterday and let me tell you. HOLY SHIT!!!! I'm dead today. I've never felt this way after a work out. James wasn't kidding when he told Kirby he wouldn't be able to get off the toilet. That said I might have pushed myself a little harder than I thought I was. I'm a big dude. (6' 1" 265 lbs) So I thought I could get away with lifting a bit heavier. Needless to say, today is a rest day. Thanks James, you seriously know what your doing and now I'm on my way to my 210 goal. Subbed!
James is for sure an expert in his field but the skill to explain things in ways so easy to understand..... that is so admirable. Thumbs up !!!! And thanks.
I began this program just over a week ago, after careful study of James techniques and can feel the benefits already. I have had extensive practice over the years with only a few stories of what I consider successful. I watch and then apply what I have learned. I am so very excited about this program. Thanks James!!!
Seriously some of the best fitness advice on the internet. Thank you so much James! You're a beast. You have inspired me to get back into the gym. I can already see the changes in my health and life!
I seperate my leg days. One day is quad focus, so leg extensions, squat movement, leg press with quad emphasis. That day is legs only. The other day is leg curls, deadlift or rack pull, glute bridge or lunges, and shoulders. I do AM and PM workout on that day. Leg quad focus is the only workout where I do whole workout. Others are split AM and PM. So like Biceps AM and Chest PM. This gives me full energy and focus on that bodypart. Then I can recover energy stores before PM workout.
I normally do squats, lunges, romanian deadlift, leg extension (I need more quad focus cause I tend to lift with my hamstrings and glutes), calf raises. Brill
Saving this video. Thanks James! I've switched my entire workout routine to match your videos, and switched from the old 4 sets of 10 reps to your 20/10/10/15. Love it! I'm on my second week now and already I can see and feel an incredible difference in my physique.
Hey James, you have completely changed my perception on training and regenerated my motivation to get into the gym again. Your videos have great flow and logic. You do things a bit differently to everybody else. I've always wondered why my bench press hadn't grown my chest for example. Meanwhile my shoulders are getting too big. But you help explain that perfectly. Keep them up and I'm following Kirby too. Please please please do some videos on nutrition at some point! I'm keen to hear your views.
Hi Mr. James! I'm a gamer but I always stay active. Your videos popped up under my suggested youtube vids and when I checked it out, I first thought to myself, "this guy is not alarming my bs meter at all!" I'm just a noob, but after trying all of your workouts except this leg one, I can clearly see that your giving us valuable info here. I've never felt such defined results! Now when I see you pick up the 15lbs.ers I am scared because I'll have to be starting with the 8's,, lol. This leg day terrifies me! Seriously though, thanks for keeping it 100, it goes a long way! When I show my friends they like your style as well. Thanks again!
James I can't thank you enough for every video you put out. I started lifting 4 months ago to get in shape and your videos are a wealth of knowledge. I have followed several of your routines and they definitely kick my ass! Keep being an inspiration. You rock!
Just got back from leg day and I have to thank you guys again. Understanding how to workout all my different leg muscles properly has given me so much confidence and motivation to push forward. Now I look forward to leg day! Big Alohas!
Thank you James. Especially showing the example of alternative to deadlifts with the hyperextensions. Always thought it was just for back. Definitely needed this info. Thanks!
If you lift your upper body using your hamstring with your back straight, it's for hamstrings and is called a glute-ham raise If you round your back forward and then straighten it, it's for lower back and is called a Hyper extension. They look almost the same and often use the same equipment

The amount of knowledge that I get from your videos I feel like I owe you something!! Thanks James!! Looking forward to the calves video I've been working calves and abs every time I go to the gym.
James, you are the man this workout kicked my butt. I did legs yesterday, following you step for step. My gym has the diamond shape bar to keep the weighs at your side, I have to be honest I didn't even put any weights on it and just focus on the form, and it was hella hard. I watch your videos on my phone to guide me through the workout, and I do feel the muscle working. Thanks James
I must say man i cringe at times when I think about the story of you and your accident when I see you train legs but at the same time so inspired and happy that you recovered so well and can still move forward and train them. a lot of people let fear or others words knock them down and they give up before they try again. I know cause ive been there but didn't let anyone or even the doctor get in my head. YOU ARE THE MAN
Got to say bro, been doing your 20/10/10/20 scheme for a week now and I've not had a pump like that since I started working out 2 years ago. Thanks for these free workouts. They are beast my friend. This leg workout completely destroyed my wife and me.
appreciate all the knowledge James! I too broke my hip during the Calgary floods, took a dive into a sink hole....Just getting back into smart-heavy leg workouts so I really appreciate your posts that ive found! Cheers
I love the idea of fatigueing the middle I've been doing that on leg days so I'm not leg pressing 1000 lbs and killing my joints. thanks James for all the great information
You're amazing man. Thank you truly. Doing a PPL routine and so far your tips on Push exercises, im talking about wider shoulders, THROWING the lateral raises out for shoulders, taking the dumbell incline OUT AWAY from your shoulders (maybe wrong terminology but you know what I mean), and so many more tips helped me so much! The best was the cable flies with bringing elbows together! Got legs tomorrow so watching all your leg videos and back in a few days. Already seeing huge results! Thank you!!
Awesome channel James! I look forward to getting notifications that you have posted a new video. You're a true role model in the fitness industry. And what you are doing with Kirby is awesome!!
Did this workout this morning for the first time. Those lunges are enough to make a grown man cry! Loved it though - don't think I've ever felt such a burn/pump in the legs. Gonna be crawling round the house tomorrow, haha!
My leg days have always been lacking or not even done. Thanks for this video, it will help me to get it done finally. 👍👍 Keep up with the great videos and being a great motivator.
i just started watching your videos a few days ago and i must say i love the way you teach things, there are also tons of stuff that i never thought about. Thanks and keep the videos coming! =)
Trap bar....soooo underutilized & misunderstood I think. My gym doesn't have one so I bought one for home last year. Best investment. I have a weak low back due to being hit by a truck (landed on my tailbone, several bulging disks as result - getting better tho!!). I'm also a leggy gal so regular deadlifts & squats put a lot of strain on my low back w problems being getting the bar around my legs in a deadlift & too much forward lean in a squat. Trap bar is best of both without the back issues! Excellent for single leg deadlifts too. Loving your videos and major respect for how you are mentoring Kirby. His enthusiasm is endearing!
Great workout, did it this morning really enjoy doing the dumbbell deadlifts instead of regular deadliftsit really allowed me to target my quads which is my main focus. Keep up the great work James
Brilliant video. The only subscribe on TH-cam I wait excitedly each week for the next video. Straight to the point, informative and great workouts. Good job James. 👍.
great video and great workout! did this last night and my legs are jello. I appreciate your channel and all the info. you've definitely helped me get past some plateaus in my gains! keep up the great work.
Hey man just wana say thanks thanks heaps for the content. Being new to gym life going into the gym confident, knowing what I'm doing with the right technique is awesome! Plus the bonus of learning how our body works and the muscles is just awesome!! Cheers man!
THIS WORKOUT IS INSANE!!!! BUT IT WORKS I MODIFIED A LIL BIT CUZ IT'S SO INSANE. ...I JUST HIT PR OF 405 DEADLIFT X 2 REPS...I BEEN DOIN THIS WORKOUT FOR APPROX 8 WKS.....GREAT VIDEO AS ARE ALL THE VIDEOS!!!
Just found your channel. I really appreciate how instructive you are with these exercises. I hurt my back a while back and am trying to get back to lifting. This vid was super helpful! Thanks! Subbed.
Mr. Grage, thank you for all the information provided. Learning the kinesiology is an important aspect & understanding of muscle building. I began using your techniques, & the results are slowly showing. Keep doing what your doing brother, Thank you! #musclegeek

+entspeak I know what you're going through. I'm 6'6" and I have knee pain doing squats/lunges. I'd love to hear James' thoughts on taller guys training legs. At 26, if I go ass to grass on squats, I'll be in a wheelchair by 40. Honestly, I'm not sure how to train my legs and I don't want to regret it in the long run.
Hey guys. This is one area where height can work against you. If you were to sit next to someone who is 6' you would see less of a difference in height than if you were to stand next to them. That's because a lot of height with taller people comes from their femurs. This puts you at a biomechanics disadvantage for squatting movements. Because of the longer length in your femurs, the more it pushes your pelvis backward (relative to your feet) as you squat down. The lower you go the more it forces you to lean forward to maintain your balance. Shorter people are definitely better built for squatting. My best advice is to not go as deep with your squats. Another possibility is putting a wedge under your heels to push you forward slightly. This will also put a little more emphasis on your quads. Hope this helps.
He is soon right in the beginning when he is explaining why he starts with leg extensions and leg curls. This is 100% correct and I don't understand why people don't get this and, more importantly, why those giving advice (let's say on BB.com) always get this wrong. No matter how old you are, this is how you should start. What I don't understand is why does he do both back squats and dumbbell squats? Wish there was a Two Thumbs Up option! Excellent video! Thank you for taking the time to explain the right form and providing alternative excercises! :)
This series was my first toe dip into building muscle years ago. Still by far the best.

Mr. Grage, thank you for all the information provided. Learning the kinesiology is an important aspect & understanding of muscle building. I began using your techniques, & the results are slowly showing. Keep doing what your doing brother, Thank you! #musclegeek
The dumbell deadlift seems quite similar to a squat exercise?
A very good and informative video ! Thumb up !
damn what amazing recovery after that awful accident, who would have thought. God is great white you!
with
Through a misfortune did he develop a smarter way to train. Much good can come from challenging situations, so yes he gets the credit there too.
Awesome video. i do 5 sets of 10 reps on squat recently at 265, then 2set 3 reps of 335..then everything else you do minus the DL bc of lower back problems in the past. And i stick to the 20 10 10 15 for everything else. i have seen huge improvements on my strength and leg size bc of that these workouts..keep em comin!!
this was actually useful compare to other leg videos
I think this dumbbell deadlift is more a squat than a deadlift.. Ur hip is goin to low while doin it. Doin a deadlift demands ur hip to be higher. Correct me if im wrng. Thnk ya and keep posting beneficial videos. Cheers
Thanks for this! Legs are the area I struggle with the most, so I have been really looking forward to this video the most. Being 6'7", I've had knee issues. One thing I realized was that I was actually going a little too heavy on the hamstring curls. I started getting a sharp pain in the top of my right knee when I curled, so thanks for the reminder about not needing to go heavy.
Oh, and I get a pain in my knee on the back leg (the one going toward the floor) when doing the lunges. Any suggestions on how to avoid that?
+James Grage - The Muscle Geek Thanks for your response James! Gonna try the hedge next leg day. Aprreciate the feedback. Take care.
Perfect depth in your squat
James i love you man. you are my motivation. keep it going man :)
I would chose dumbbell squats because it is the same exercise, but, with dumbbells, you eliminate the spinal compression.
Dear James,
As usual, this is great. A couple of issues,though:-
1- the use of small discs under the heels, ok to use ?
2- the use of hand hooks straps, ok too ?
Thanks a lot.
Great video 👍
thanks man learned a lot...love u...u r best
I seperate my leg days. One day is quad focus, so leg extensions, squat movement, leg press with quad emphasis. That day is legs only. The other day is leg curls, deadlift or rack pull, glute bridge or lunges, and shoulders. I do AM and PM workout on that day. GLUTES HAMS POSTERIOR CHAIN IN THE MORNING, THEN SHOULDERS LATER IN THE DAY. Leg quad focus is the only workout where I do whole workout. Others are split AM and PM. So like Biceps AM and Chest PM. This gives me full energy and focus on that bodypart. Then I can recover energy stores before PM workout. My year starts on my Birthday. So April is my start. Let's get it and see where we are next April 2021.
YO james! Thanks for these workout vidz. Lota love from Korea!
Pre fatigue into 55 reps of squats into two types of lunges... damn I'd be laying flat on my face halfway through this workout! :o
Wish there was a Two Thumbs Up option! Excellent video! Thank you for taking the time to explain the right form and providing alternative excercises! :)
great video again
got to ask - deadlifts and squats look like the same exercise. How about good mornings with leg/lower back?
That leg workout was no joke (even though I changed some exercises but the set scheme awesome) ...thanks!
Great tutorial. Gonna try it out. You've earned my subscribe!
Them stiff leg deadlifts, always give me doms for at least three days
give me at least 3 days too
