Only recently I realized the power of just telling people to get in your vehicle is so incredibly powerful sometimes.
This was at the very end of war 102, we were defending The Vanguard in Shackled and some people realized the base to our south was getting attacked and it didnt have any troops, was about to fall and we would end up surrounded. There were guys in Vanguard yelling at people to "go down south NOW, its about to fall!", but despite it not being super far away, very few people were actually making the trek.
I found a jeep in town and used a wrench to borrow it, started parking in front of the Vanguard base and just calmly told people to get in by name, elaborating further if they asked why. Ended up transferring a couple dozen troops down there (always reminding them to set new spawn) and we ultimately didn't end up surrounded.
Not sure how much of a role I played there, and even though the whole hex fell the next day and we lost the war a few days after that, it felt awesome doing something that might affect even a minor conflict.

That's a very specific psychological problem that comes up in emergency response situations. Large groups tend to think someone must have already acted on a problem. This results in nobody actually responding to it. It goes all the way up to entire countries, but that's a different debate.
The way you avoid it is by giving the jobs to specific individuals. "You, call for help," will always trigger immediate action, where "somebody call for help" will get absolutely no response from anyone. People are very, very good at acting quickly and care about each other's well being, intensely. They just need to know whether or not they specifically should.

Good leaders, especially ones who lead more than a vic crew, are just slightly insane, addicted individuals who are bothered enough to motivate other players and convince them to join him on his plan. They also frequently get to deal with newbies Cpls telling them to "calm down" or "who made u leader". So a leader is a rare individual but incredibly good to have even in foxhole.

    Hi, Cockface.
I'm Captain_Pravi, current clan commander of UA and former clanleader of HAND.
First of all, I want to say thank you and tell a words of a big gratitude for the video that you've created.
I don't know if you know me or remember, cause we didn't see each other so many times in the game.
Your video inspired me to write this long comment with my thoughts and feeling after watching.
As a person who's playing Foxhole since 2020 and who's leading 2 different clans, I find this video quite a big reminder for me and myself how and what I need to do.
I get a big pleasure by watching it and satisfied how you've put all the practical and psycological principals right into place.
However, I have to say 1 important moment and simple reality of our game that you're trying now to change by your video.
Problem is that around of 80-90% of the people who is playing Foxhole, don't want to take any responsibility for other's, don't want to make complicated their gameplay and simply afraid to make any mistakes.
It's so rare and important to find a person who's ready to become this leader, even in a real life.
You've put that aspect right in you video and mentioned it again in the end. But by my long experience in clans and observation how newbies/randoms acting tells me that most of the people want just to play a game even without a teamplay, ironacly.
Not everyone is created to be a leader and not everyone has a charisma for it but you can always become one by learning new skills, it depends on your will strength and HOW MUCH you want to be the "King" and have a power.
But most of the people would like to be a part of something or someone, probably it's our nature.
Most of players want to do orders but not to command.
They are afraid to be in this position cause the weight of aspects and responsibility can break you up.
Personally I always had a will to lead people since childhood, I always wanted to inspire them and giving them hope and purpose.
Foxhole became a part of my life. This game become my favourite hobby that satisfies my personal needs and giving me a great possibility to be a man that can lead people to fight and to keep their morale high.
I found out that an icon of leader can even change your men and inspire them to become more great version of themselfes, that making me happy.
I'm so glad to see how my men encouraged by battled and how they growing stronger and stronger after each one.
Everytime, when you've fighting together a get better know each other and you're creating by that a greatest connection of respect and feeling between soldiers and commander.
Your video is very good for young officer's who is only making a decision to become a leader.
But for me, as a person who passed through a lot of battles and changing of people that surround you, I must say that if you're a CLAN LEADER, (not an officer of small squad!!!) it is also important to choose wisely the officers that can take a part of your responsebilities during the operation and during all your clan career.
You must compare skills of your man, include their psycological temper and keep the balance between you men, knowing that not everyone can play and team up with each other due to personal aspects.
I remember how I burnt out 5 times due to luck of that skill in the beginning of my commander career.
I always was commanding a big groups by myself, (20-40 people in 1 voice chat!!!), not giving a chance for others to take an innitiative due to of my scare to fail and not to do how I wanted.
It was a biggest problem for me because of which I had a lot of times low morale.
But now when I learnt how to put people on a right place and minimise the aspects that overweighting me, I can teach people to become officers and leaders by giving them a posibility to command others, like a small group of people, for example and improving their personal skills.
When you're a leader, you have to know the climate of your team and not obvious moments when you have to act calm or agresively.
It's not easy but when you're making everything right and when you're compliting the mission amount of satisfaction in unbelievibly high.
I hope that new generations of players will learn a lot by your guide.
It's honor to fight with you side by side for the Colonial Republic
I wish you the best with your operations, projects and with comanding.
I hope that everything will be alright with you and you will get as much joy as I do by playing this game.
    Again, thanks a lot!
    With huge respect,
    Captain_Pravi

Usually at the start of wars I try and organise mammon rushes as it's so simple for new players to understand, Usually I try to get people interested by repeatedly just saying "Mammon!", then, I will stand infront of the BB / TH and say "Mammon rushers on me, grab 3 mammons!" Repeatedly, holding the mammon out, spinning around etc. Once you get 1 / 2 guys in the group people will really start listening, continue to say "Grab 3 mammons!" and that's when you can get those big groups of 20 people all rushing at once.

But if the opportunity presents itself for me to be part in one, and i do not forget to hit the record button, i could yeah sure. I'd say essencially you just take chapter 6 and crank it into overdrive with the planning and logistics aspect of things and have a lot more vets participating.

Great video. You can tell you understand the mindsets of players in this game, which is quite advanced. There are a lot of similarities in leadership skills with Sea of Thieves, where leading inexperienced crew members the right way can lead to great accomplishments. Lots of people want to be lead, especially in teamwork games like this.

I've played for 2 days and i allready have a squad of 5 people playing with me. They see me as the leader of the group and we have an identity as saboteurs. Yesterday we destroyed 12 trucks and 2 Armoured cars behind enemy lines.
While high assed veterans whom werent getting any results for all of their knowledge were shouting orders to us. Calling us noobs and generally being toxic. We were having fun and being helpful at the same time. This is why i sometimes find people whom want to lead to be bad leaders. I was chosen to lead, because i was the guy, whom maked sure everyone was having fun.
Not knowing how the game works, sometimes gives you a huge edge

I think a concept that is not thought about often is being dead vs alive. I find that when I lead mammon charges I typically lead from the front as close as possible to our target, then I instead tell the infantry specifically where to go and assign a leader to the "squad". This allows me to stay alive while everyone respawns so that I can continue to encourage those players that did not mammon charge, as well as being able to assess the situation during the 15-40 seconds it takes to respawn, which allows for changes in tactics, calls, strategy, etc.

To me, coming from games like Hell let Loose or Squad, where command structure is very clear and communication is a must, playing Foxhole sometimes is just ridiculous to watch and very frustrating. I wish more people see this guide! :) Generally even the clan that I was part of for a while, disapointed me with an absolute shitshow of command structure and communcation so at the moment I am just running around doing loggi, summoning randoms for flanks, doing some partisan stuff or just driving the battle bus to the front, which is also usefull to share info between base and front, and to give people a general info on what to do.

in the segment about passive morale upkeep and the music it can be a useful tool but that require proper use of it some people jsut blast whatever music and sometimes its stuff people dont like or they play it so loud no one can hear each other talk which just makes people upset and they log off or they all try to get away from the source of the music and do something else so the use of music as a morale booster needs respectful responsible use and not using it in an invasive way

Good video. I remember finally meeting you one random day in a logi hub and finally getting to give you commends. All I knew of you at the time was through your really helpful signs with a funny username which taught me a handful of things that I didn't know (even though I had racked up many many many hours already).
Sometimes people get impassioned when things are dire. That example of you being a bad leader. We've all been there. You've been fighting for hours and people are just standing around watching someone dig a hole or solo build when speed is needed. People put a lot of time and energy into these battles and wars. It a certain point of playing you get lost in the sauce and are actually immersed and respecting the game's illusion. That's where the real magic is. People yell, they get mad to try. Sometimes, as a bystander...breaking that is as simple as asking how you can help.
I find myself yelling at the mass of folks who just let their bases get hammered by artillery without pulling b-mats and repairing. There's almost this palpable giving up you can feel in-game, or people just running around not knowing what to do amidst the chaos. I always try and tell them our bmats are stronger than the enemies costly shells they waste against our hammers.
I'm someone who is a radar rat, so i'll always make regional text-chat callouts with directions if i see partisan activity or enemies trying to poke around at our flanks. I try and inform new people they can update their maps without a radio at any base when they open it's inventory and to watch out for and disrupt blue dots/triangles.

Hooting and hollering after killing something gives it importance to new bois, as leader figure is excited and happy about it. This also has the effect of them being terrified whenever the leader figure starts worrying lol.

@@geoffrey111995 I tried being calm and confident, but most people just don't listen. I could tell them about their momma and the fact that they are about to drive into a mine to the exactly same effect.
Higher ranked people do at least hear what I am saying, but they usually think they know better. I never really leveled up past lieutenant because I don't have 50 friends to commend me every day I play, but noobs can't really tell if that's high or not and veterans won't listen regardless of what rank you have unless they personally know you.
At this point I am mostly done trying. After years of arguing with people over the most obvious things I am just burned out. I got banned on discord for an unrelated issue and to be honest I am better for it. After trenches appeared in the game it rapidly devoled into stagnant garbage with nothing at all happening for weeks on end. I mostly just mine public scrap and components these days. Don't really wanna play anymore but I've been playing for so long that quitting before the end feels wrong, you know?

@@geoffrey111995 Though, having thought about it now. I didn't really try in a very long time. Back when I actually cared to do talk to other people in game instead of on Discord there were like 500 people playing each war. Nowadays when I do come to play in the frontline and I need something I usually get someone to communicate back to me. Yesterday I actually managed to conscript 2 apes to drive with me to an empty bob south of Sitaria that I previously scouted on foot and blow it up. It didn't go well because ofc there were 3 wardens there waiting for us by the time we arrived but the key part is that I got the randos to do what I tell them to.

Thanks for the info dump. With the major changes with how the game was when it was 1st out to now I also notice one of the biggest issue is how new and even some old players don't understand how the 2 factions operate due to their unique weapons and equipment. The Colonials reflect the Russians and American doctrine with faster firing close range weapons as well as cheaper armor while the wardens have a lot of long range and very versatile armor that can take a beating but a bit more costly to produce. Problem when it comes to leadership you need to point out is that some vets have a major lack of patience and go off on newer players which can put them off.
P.S. Colonials definitely need a bit more courage juice in most cases. What do you go by in game?

How do you play music so clearly in-game without having to use you rmic?

    • @geoffrey111995
      @geoffrey111995  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Soundboard, soundpad is what i use. It outputs the sound to the mic input, as if i was talking. You can chose if you want to be able to talk while sounds play or if it cuts your mic off while something plays. But it also outputs it to my headphones so i can also hear what's playing. A free virtual audio cable also works, however you have to switch to it in the game options every time you want to play something and put your browser output to the virtual audio cable, which means you don't need to download sounds like for soundpad, but you won't hear it yourself, unless you use voicemeeter or sync it with a different browser.
It sounds perfectly clear to you in the moment and for others, just when you record with the shadowplay feature you will hear it duplicated at a few miliseconds interval due to how it only records your windows default sound output but also the soundpad output at the same time. (ex: my foxhole gordon ramsay video, you can hear the sounds double) There's voicemeeter to mess with inputs & outputs in a better way, but it's too complicated for me.
Currently the only adjustement i do is halve my mic output in the game options if i want to play sounds/music, to around 40%, as it will then be quiet/normal volume to 99% of people. Beware however that around 40% is also a point where any quiet parts in musics may not be transmitted because it won't be high volume enough, you will see your mic icon go on/off all the time. It's foxhole's mic activation transmit threshold. Tune it so it just about stays on all the time, usually 50%, depends on the intensity/loudness of the music. For example starcraft 2 terran OST the quieter parts won't transmit unless it's at 55% something. If i want to talk i put it back at 80% which is a bit loud but ensures i am heard in combat. Just experiment with audacity or whatever to see how many decibels you output with your setup. As a last note, you will notice that if other people talk loudly compared to you or play loud music, your mic will cut off. That's just how the vivox VOIP system in this game works.

I co-led some pretty daring defenses on a flank many of the clans had abandoned and that was basically being defended by a horde of privates and few clanless vets. Ultimately, we were pushed back, but we bought hours of prep for one of our home tiles(It might have been Heartlands, can't remember). This stuff is a force multiplier, you really nailed it.
