    The best explanation of a console's dynamics section [Gate,compressor] on the internet.

    You are a great teacher. The visualisation you do with your hands, when explaining the compressor is very effective....especially for beginners

      Thanks Oktay - I came up with that illustration several years ago and it's especially helpful for live sound engineers, because it shows the make-up gain separate to the gain reduction applied by the compressor. In a live sound situation this makeup gain can be the source of feedback, which has caught many a rookie engineer unawares 😉

    In a few weeks I have my first gig as a live audio engineer. After inquiring about the venue's gear, it turned out this one is the mixer they got. Only knowing the basics of an analogue mixer, I was completely overwhelmed by the looks of this particular unit, but your videos made me understand it perfectly. Great unit and great tutorial, thank you so much! :)

      Hello Petros, thanks for getting in touch - very glad the video was helpful! Digital has become pretty much the de facto standard for live sound in many parts of the world these days, it has so many advantages over analog. Fortunately there is increasing commonality amongst digital desks and once you understand basic digital signal flow it's easy to adapt to different makes and models. Let me know how your first gig goes!

    Thank you so much for this series. I have a QU 16 and getting familiar with digital mixing has been quite a challenge. Your videos have been very informative.
    Can I make a request for a more in-depth video on multitrack recording?

    We are using the QU-32 in our church and we have drums, keyboard, piano & guitars which I am running on mix 1 to floor stage monitors. We are also running to each instrument with a personal ME mix system. I want them to be able to hear their instruments separate from the mix to the house. Currently, the mix level going to their ears is determined by the level being sent to the house. If the channel gets muted and the sound person forgets to unmute the channel, the instrumentalist has to play "deaf" so to speak. I'm sure it's a matter of a pre-amp button somewhere but I'm not able to figure that one out.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is not ideal, when using in ears the performers should be able to hear their instruments at all times. How are you connecting the Qu32 to the MyMix system?

  • @iamsazzy

    Our church recently purchased this mixer and these first two videos were tremendously helpful. I'm looking forward to Part 3 and hoping that FX will be covered a little bit. Our vendor did give us some training, but a board like this requires extra time and experimentation during off hours. I am a newbie to mixing. Would you recommend I get a feel for this board by playing music or some other medium? We use this mixer for all aspects of our church services, from podium speaking to band music. Thank you so much for all of the time and effort you put into these videos. I can't wait to see more.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +iamsazzy Yes we covered some of that, as well as how to set up the aux sends. The best way to learn this board is to plug in a vocal mic and use your own voice - run through the various EQ bands, gate, compressor, effects etc. I did it for about an hour whilst preparing for this class. Part 3 is coming once I wade through the editing...

    • @iamsazzy
      @iamsazzy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +GLB Productions Ok, thanks for your advice. I will use a vocal mic to get to know the board better and I'm sure Part 3 will help me along also. Keep up the great work.

    Finally I've found some time to watch this second part...very great mixer indeed...it lets you bring only the mixer without any outboard gear isn't it? ;)
    But does it have a stereo 31 band graphic EQ in the master section?(in order to tune the venue...)

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Cris Valk Yes you can basically do an entire show with just this mixer at FOH plus your PA back end.
      It does have the option of inserting 31-band graphic EQs into the outputs, but I much prefer using the 4-band parametric EQ: more precise and you can target the exact frequency needed.

    Thanks for your very helpful videos. At our church we have a qu32 an suddenly switching layers stopped working. Can you please tell me if it is a setting matter or is something broken? Many thanks

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome Roberto. The way to test this is to do a full factory reset on the console - the instructions are in the reference manual. Then see if the problem persists. If it does you have a hardware problem and the console needs to be serviced.

    Re Compressor - normally we consider a compressor / expander instead of simply a compressor. You are demonstrating a compressor with manual expansion

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll need to try that out - I personally do not recommend using the mixer as a playback device for live events, better to use an external player.

  • @ChristianMontmarquette
    @ChristianMontmarquette 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    - Is it possible to individually output each track recorded for example on Cubase, Pro Tool or Logic Pro via the USB input and mix them on the external physical mixer?
    Or if the Allen & Heath Qu-32 can only monitor and record the stereo output of the sequencers in question like Pro Tools?
    Thanks in advance for the reply.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, both of these are absolutely possible but you need to know what you are doing in order to set up the interface correctly.

    I have a question... Do you know how to change/increase the output levels for USB recording?

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The USB recording level follows the level of the master LR fader. As far as I know there is no separate recording level function in this mixer.

    how come i can't format my usb drive using the mixer

    • @GLBProductions

      Not all USB drives work with this mixer - I have some which will and others which the mixer will not recognise.

    question..... i plug mi ipod in front of the mixer...my channel will be # 3 on the second leyer....how do i give monitor?.......i have on channell 3 a vocal mic conected...can it be use twice at the same time?... how i give monitor for both??

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same for both - press the mix button that you want to send the signal to and then raise the fader to give the correct level. The layers all work the same way when sending to monitors.

    • @GLBProductions
      @GLBProductions  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, sounds to me like there may be something wrong with your mixer, or you may not be saving the scenes properly. Make sure that you are not trying to recall a scene that is already loaded!
