Great content as always. No body wants to see a fish caught at the start of a video. We all know fishing is a true grind and it’s more about collecting data on the lake and knowing your tackle. You break it down to the science. Keep up the good work

I'll try Joe! Haha. So long as this winter stays relatively mild I'm going to put in work. The zero fishing pressure of winter is addicting. There is but a single artificial lure in the water.....mine. You figure that HAS to up the odds considerably vs warmer conditions and the thousands and thousands of casts/lures in the water.
@@KeepinItReelFishing For Sure, It has been a while since I have caught anything over 4 lbs...but come this April heading to Georgia so I should do well there.
great video my question is related to your electronics .having the seem canoe as you what depth finder are you using? I always worried about the transducer getting damaged on rock stumps etc. could you a little insite on your setup .thanks don
Hey Don. I have a Lowrance HDI-5 from about 5 years ago. The equivalent model now (with more features actually) is the "Hook" series. Transducer wise Lowrance sells this protective housing that shields it well. The bottom is still exposed (of course), and with a hard enough hit I'm sure it could crack. But, I've been using it these past 5 years, on somewhere around 150+ trips and have yet to have an issue. I'm assuming they make equivalent tranducer protectors for the newer model transducers. But, this is the jist of it....www.basspro.com/shop/en/lowrance-hdi-trolling-motor-adaptor-for-skimmer-transducer?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&affcode_c=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmpb0BRCBARIsAG7y4zYlXQMkfRVv8vwww3jh0k263Krnl0QKANtXncdZsEWmiDLxKdQN3s4aAuQmEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Do you have any idea what the 8in Easy Shiner weighs? Just wondering what kind of rod I would need for it as far as lure rating. I have a 7'4" Daiwa Tatula Frog rod, but it might have too stiff of a tip. I'm not sure. Super nice bass by the way! Way to go!
I'll have to get one to weigh, but I want to say about an ounce....maybe a hair more. Coupled with an 8/0 3/8oz weighted hook (I actually go down a size to the 6/0 1/4oz) you looking at probably just shy of 2oz. I see your rod is rated from 1/2oz-2oz, so you are golden. I rock my 8" Easy Shiner on a 7'11" Savage Gear Browser XH rated at 1/4-2oz and its PERFECT. Its what I'm using it on in this video.
Great vid and info as always, thanks for the insight!!! I know you’re not a hard water guy but I bet a panoptix icefishing bundle could be mounted on your kayak...😉🎣. I put it on my trolling motor in summer and use it ice fishing. Game changer.
Awesome! Hey, have you every tried any lures from CL8 Baits? They have some interesting stuff...Voles, Muskrats, Clackers, Gliders etc. My favorite is the might mouse.
Wish they had more sizes of the easy shiner, if I remember right there isn't any 6 or 7 it just goes 5inch straight to 8? Maybe I'm wrong I'll have to check but I love those things regardless
Sure thing. Isobrite 'Eclipse'. 10 year battery life. Saphire crystal. But, the main thing is the T-100 tritium illumination. The indicies glow on their own....with a half -life (they are radioactive) for roughly 30 years. www.armourlite.com/
Your video got me started with bigger baits. I just bought my first swimbait rod. The 8ft Daiwa DX heavy is perfect for baits like this one. It's faster action is perfect for bigger Beast hooks. Are there any other weedless soft swimbaits that are 6-8 inches you like that you recommend? I've been wanting to try a 7in Citizen, but I'm hesitant to spend $50 on one bait
I see this is a year old, but the Magdraft freestyle are great soft swimbaits with a beast hook..6"....the weedless 68 Hudd...I just received a whole box of these 8" Keitech easy shiners...they look really good & I throw big baits alot....I've caught multiple 4-7 lbers which as u know are trophies in ohio...also, had what appeared to be even bigger snap my braid right at the kayak doing a nose dive...big baits= Big bass
Well done. I have a question for you. What do you think of the dobyns fury 795sb rod for the 68 special the 6 inch hudd. And the S waver? Would the 8inch be too heavy?. Or should I just go with the 806sb?
Good question. I have no experience with the 795 and just a little with the 806. I know they are very popular rods, and there is no particular reason why, but I just never got any Dobyns
Im a long time subscriber. Awesome videos, particularly for swimbait fishing in the northeast. As someone who targets larger fish, have you tried striped bass fishing? I think that would be an awesome addition to the channel
I’ve been killing it in SJ with jerk baits lots of small fish but I’ve also put 4’s 5’s a 6 and a 7 in the boat over the last few weeks no luck with the swim baits tho I’m dying to boat a toad on one of my big swim baits
Your absolutely right. In the warmer months I never do and I'm comfortable with that. Shoot....sometimes I want to jump in. But, in these cold temps the shock of the cold can de debilitating. I've been meaning to pick up a good PFD, will look into getting that.
Although this is completely off topic from the video I wanted to ask anyway. Do you have any experience with Abu Garcia Reels? Been following you for awhile and don’t recall you ever mentioning them or doing reviews on them. In the market and they’re appealing to me and I value your input! Thanks!
Hey BC. Your absolutely right. There is a void of any Abu products on my channel. But, it's not for any particular reason. I have no preference of brand. In terms of bigger reels the Abu Beast just never had anything about it that made feel I needed it. But, I have read from a number of people who's opinions I respect and they love the thing.
Its the Ayu color. Its never been on Keitech's website, but Tackle Warehouse has carried them. Unlike almost all their other colors their is no flake or flash of any kind. Its quite subtle and natural, but still had a good contrasting "flash" between the dark green back and the stained/yellowish sides.
@@KeepinItReelFishing cool, thanks! I'm going to give the 8" a try for Lmb but I bet they will be killer for the spring striper run here in New England!
Is your connection knot going into the reel? If so what connection knot do you use? Just curious if the t-wing levelwind system gives you any problems.
It does. I use the Alberto knot....have for about 5 years. I like it due to its simplicity and quickness to tie. Depending on the size of the braid and leader it does sometimes kind of blip as it enters the T-Wing. 80lb braid to 20 lb leader gets caught for a sec, before it goes through. 50lb braid to 17lb leader you feel a 'tick', but it passes through without issue. Most often I use 65lb braid to either 17 or 20lb leader, and that goes through with a bit more of a 'tick'/hesitation. After thousands of casts it doesn't actually wear down anything at the knot, nor have I had the knot fail me (in years) with this system. But, yes....you do feel it go through. Of course it could be alleviated with shorter leaders, but for many application I prefer a leader of at least 8ft....which always enters the reel on an 8ft rod. If you prefer the FG knot, you may not have any issue as that ties down to a smaller diameter than the Alberto.
KeepinItReelFishing thank you so much! I love your videos and have learned so much in the past few years from you. Thank you for taking the time to answer this question as well!
Great... as always. Hey Mister KeepInItReel, did you see that Berkley Trilene Braid is discontinued ? Became my favorite braided line for baitcasters ! Is there an equivalent ? Berkley X9 ?
I know....me too! I was using the Berkley Professional braid on a number of reels since it came out. I loved its characteristics. I have yet to try the X9 or X5, but handling them in the package neither looked to be a 'coated' line, which the Professional version was and the reason I liked it. They are going uncoated, which is more limp and supple. That has its benefits too, but overall the Professional was just my favorite. I am now using the Vicious No Fade braid on a few of my reels since last year. It is also a limp, uncoated line, but it lives up to its marketing and truly does not fade. Its a completely different manufacturing process than what everyone else is doing.
Yes, it is. I really like it because; A. Its one of their most subtle/natural patters (green pumpkin back and off white/yellowish belly) and B. There is no flake added to it like the vast majority of their other patters use. I have flashy ones as well, but I really like the simple, natural color on the Ayu. Plus, it still has a lot of contrast as it rolls between the dark top and light bottom.
@@KeepinItReelFishing I really like the natural look to it too. The reason I ask is because I’ve been looking for it on tackle warehouse and on Keitechs website it doesn’t seem like they make the 8 inch in Ayu anymore which is a shame. I may have to go with light hitch, Tennessee shad, or ghost rainbow instead. Thanks for the reply!
@@rogerspielman4953 Oh man, I'm looking it up now that you mentioned it and I see that too. Bummer. I remember that color being on sale for a while in the 8", but every time I looked they always had plenty. That light hitch and Tennessee shad are also good choices that are pretty similar.
@@KeepinItReelFishing haha I actually just called keitech and a man by the name of Mike said it was a TW exclusive. I’ll go with the Tennessee shad! Thanks!
The smaller hook I use and accompanying 1/4 oz weight is good because it doesn't sink too far into the grass. I reel it through in stop and go's, and when it gets a bit hung up I slowly raise the rod tip to bring it up and out momentarily. In the summer I might pop it out more aggressively, but in these cold temps all the motions are slower.
@@KeepinItReelFishing Thanks for getting back to me. I have a hard time fishing lures except rooster tails. Really no luck at all. So a slow stop an go retrieve? just subed.

I was just in Waukegan two weeks ago on business. Yeah, I think your proximity to the big waters plays a role.
Ping me if u come when our lakes are open. I am not a bass angler but have a boat with decent electronics and know some good bass lakes. Would love to let u drive and see how u fish new water. Think of it as a challenge video. I will try to catch someth from the back too
I thought I heard you say Burrito Baits, so I looked it up. Sure enough, there are Burrito Baits! Who knew? Good stuff.
Great video, glad to see you posting some videos.
Great content as always. No body wants to see a fish caught at the start of a video. We all know fishing is a true grind and it’s more about collecting data on the lake and knowing your tackle. You break it down to the science. Keep up the good work
So glad you are back doing Videos, stay warm bro love the content
good to see you back love the vids learn a lot from u
Nice to see you back Karl,I truly Love your uniqueness of how you explain details that most people don't, your an awesome teacher, you preach only what you experience 👍👍 and congratulations on the first Bass and I look forward to a new PB for 2020 🙏🏆👊👍💪
Hey Ken - thank you so much for that. I'm glad my style works for you. I actually was a science teacher for a brief stint. Hope you have a great season as well....tight lines man!
Always makes my day to see an upload! Thanks for sharing, man.
Thank you for watching! Tight lines 2020.
Omg, yes, love your videos my man, keep em coming
They’re pretty reliable......Boom 🔨🔨
Haha. Yeah, couldn't have scripted that better! Where timing meets luck.
I can’t wait to get my swimbait setup. Loved the video 🤙🤙🤙🇵🇹🇵🇹🤙🤙🤙
Lovely video really enjoyed it thanks keep up the good work 👍
Good stuff man! Gotta love this mild winter!
great catch keep em coming!
@@KeepinItReelFishing For Sure, It has been a while since I have caught anything over 4 lbs...but come this April heading to Georgia so I should do well there.
hey man hope to see a fall / winter vid this year !
We love those Keitech Easy Shiners! Tight lines from BFG
Nice job !!! I love those Burritos.
Fricking awesome bass man!!!
Thank you!!
I have a Jackall Gantarel that is pure art, it probably wont see the water lol. Probably would catch fish either.
great video my question is related to your electronics .having the seem canoe as you what depth finder are you using?
But, this is the jist of it....www.basspro.com/shop/en/lowrance-hdi-trolling-motor-adaptor-for-skimmer-transducer?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&affcode_c=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwmpb0BRCBARIsAG7y4zYlXQMkfRVv8vwww3jh0k263Krnl0QKANtXncdZsEWmiDLxKdQN3s4aAuQmEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
thanks that sounds good I really enjoy your videos .i'am in north east ct.my lakes and ponds are about the same as yours thanks again
@@KeepinItReelFishing Thanks a lot for the help. I really appreciate it!
Great vid and info as always, thanks for the insight!!! I know you’re not a hard water guy but I bet a panoptix icefishing bundle could be mounted on your kayak...😉🎣. I put it on my trolling motor in summer and use it ice fishing. Game changer.
*canoe
Yessssss!! Nice stick brother!! Love it
New video? Hell yes!
Love all your stuff were do you live iam in Quincy mass just 10 min from Boston 1hr from cape cod great fishing around here in mass.
Nice fish!!!
Great video with a lot of great info as always!
I believe your correct Dan. But listen.....throw that 8"! It appeals to the bigger fish, but isn't anything a 3lb fish can't totally swallow.
sweet video
Great Video , keep em coming please , this might sound wierd but what kind of Watch is that your wearing ???
Went back to watch some of your older content, what rod would you suggest for 6.8" and 7.8" Keitechs??? Was looking at the Daiwa DX Swimbait Heavy.
KeepinItReelFishing thank you sir, and it’s a very warm day in New Jersey, go out and make more videos, 😊
I know!!!! BEEEE-U-tiful today. I get little windows where I can go. Unfortunately I have to live vicariously through IG and TH-cam today.
Awesome video guys!! Subbed keep it up!
A 6 AND a 7??!! You have my attention! That's awesome bro. Don't change what you doing with results like that.
Oh great video as usual
Dude great video! Keep em coming
A canoe in freezing temps with no one else on the water and no pfd. You’re crazy. Love the content though.
Your absolutely right. In the warmer months I never do and I'm comfortable with that. Shoot....sometimes I want to jump in. But, in these cold temps the shock of the cold can de debilitating. I've been meaning to pick up a good PFD, will look into getting that.
Many would recommend a drysuit also.
@@KeepinItReelFishing Definitely something to atleast have! Stay safe
I didn’t expect this!
But, I have read from a number of people who's opinions I respect and they love the thing.
happy 2020 😂 if only you knew brother
Have you seen the tackle hd hi-def craw. They look sick to you should check them out.
That's where I saw them. Immediately bought some
What color is that Keitech Easy Shiner? Nice fish!
I also would like to add I just caught a hog the other day fishing a jerkbait in Colorado still Trying to get that big swimbait bite:)
I have the same card board box! LOL
Got a new sub from me. Also what is that camera on your hat. Have not seen one like it in fishing videos. Cool stuff
The safe rule is you should have a drysuit if air temperature and water temperature added together is less than 120 degrees.
I tried big swimbaits many times. I tend to not have the patience for them.
Hah. Totally get the cardboard box. Lol
Does he still do Burrito drops? I haven't been able to find out much about them and it doesn't seems like he announces much through his Instagram.
They used to be on Sundays at 7pm, but he seems to have changed that. Not sure now. Contact him on IG....he'll let you know.
Great...
KeepinItReelFishing X9 looks to be coated. I have 2 bobins to spool. But I am not sure it will perform as well as Trilene Braid.
What is the best all around leader to protect your baits vs pike? I usually use a steel leader just because pike are so abundant in my area.
Knot2kinky,savage gear leaders ,0,80FC and more in diam.
You should try it a rig
Phenix M1 west coast I see
Yeeeees Jose. Good eyes. I actually have two. Great rod that really handles a wide range of lures.
My TH-cam northeast Georgia kayak fishing. you will see why
Is that easy shiner the ayu color?
Thanks!
where do you get those big soft plastics?
Are you on IG ? I got a question on that Falcon XD rod you throw! Thanks
Have you thrown big plugs, TopWater like the Plunker on the rod ? 3oz + baits. Does it have to much bend to walk baits ? Thanks
I always have a cardboard box of stuff in my bass boat
How are you fishing that Keitec through the grass? Just dragging it?
The smaller hook I use and accompanying 1/4 oz weight is good because it doesn't sink too far into the grass. I reel it through in stop and go's, and when it gets a bit hung up I slowly raise the rod tip to bring it up and out momentarily. In the summer I might pop it out more aggressively, but in these cold temps all the motions are slower.
@@KeepinItReelFishing Thanks for getting back to me. I have a hard time fishing lures except rooster tails. Really no luck at all. So a slow stop an go retrieve? just subed.
