Yammie Noob, what's the maximum speed? I read different numbers on this topic, going from 70 to 85 mph, it's confusing. I want to be able to do some highway driving on it. Thanks
Former 250L owner. All his statements are true in my experience. The weight is front heavy and the suspension is incredibly soft, the pogo statement is worse than he claims but doesn’t show up unless you push the pace or it’s really rough. I’ve taken mine on some nasty sandy single track and made it through mostly unscathed. Highly recommend for any beginner to dirt

It's the motorcycle that the great 'Itchy Boots' is using as she travels around Central America. Worth watching, and you can ask her about the Honda CRF300.
I went from not riding in 17yrs to this two months later sold it and driving down to Austin to pick up a 2022 RS 660 limited edition! This bike brought back my love for riding again!
I started on a cbr500r then traded that for a triumph tiger 800 and last year also bought a crf300l. Out of all of them, the 300 has been the most fun to ride and the 500 was a ton of fun. Its fun to rip on the triumph and hear that 3 cylinder purr, but it gets boring sometimes.
It’s awesome to see your opinions and thoughts on my first motorcycle! The brake line was in the way for me when I first started but after a month or two I got used to it and it doesn’t bother me anymore. The most fun part for me is being able to hit some dirt trails on the way to the college! I can’t wait to see more on this :)
There are ways to reroute or move it out of the way safely. There is also a wrong way to do that as well. The CRF300L is high on my list for this summer and have done tons of research on the 250L (started looking at them in 2019) and now the 300L. Tons of useful videos out there.
Nice to see you riding the 300L! I have been making content on this bike since last year. It's great to see other bigger TH-camrs enjoying the bike as well. Someone is going to be really lucky to get it in the giveaway.
I think this bike would potentially be a great option for an ultra light adv bike for doing long miles on dirt roads and tough trails, and with a skilled rider, it could go some crazy places off-road.
@yammienoob I bought this as my first bike a few weeks ago. Only rode 1 other bike in my life. A buddies 110 when I was younger. So I'm a complete beginner. My brother works at a bike shop and has been riding his whole life and saved me almost a grand otd with his discount. I'll be taking a brc this spring. Can't wait to ride this summer!
I don’t think the CRF is a newbie bike it’s just a bike built for a specific purpose. The 250L was more than capable and this is an improvement. Regarding speed bumps, that bike made me accelerate towards them and aim for potholes. It really is a fun machine.
My favorite part about watching your videos since I moved to Austin is recognizing the exact spots like your intro and that little dirt trail I found the other day!
When I was deciding on a dual sport it was between this, the WR250 and the KLX300. I ultimately picked the KLX 300 based on the better suspension seat height, and price. The WR was just too tall for me (5'9" 32" inseam) and was considerably more expensive than the KLX or the CRF. The CRF had a nice seat height but that suspension was a deal breaker. Honda should have spent the gas gauge/gear indicator/ABS money on better suspension instead.
I bought a klx300 last year. I've been waiting for my crf300l but last weekend a wr250r popped up on craigslist. It's a 2015 with 440 original miles. So I bought it. So far it's much better than my klx. Feels faster, too. I'm 6'2" so the taller seat height is a plus for me. Think I'll cancel the order for the crf. Dont need 3 dual sports, do I?
@@KingFriday274 any mods done to the wr? It is probably the faster of the two stock, but I think with modifications the klx can put more torque and power. I can’t see any concrete info for sure though. The wr is a bad ass bike, I really wanted one but ended up on a klx 300 because wr prices are ridiculous. Compared to the Honda 250l I had previously, the klx is an absolute beast.
I got a 2017 CRF250L & had to get rid of the Showa suspension (front & rear) - put Ohlins & soooo much better. Why Honda only went with one front spring in the forks is a mistake imo. I do some enduro stuff with it, but it is noooo comparison to my KTM450EXC-R. That is my fav for enduro. The Honda I use for work commute & use it off-road when I am too lazy to load my KTM (stripped down & not played).
KLX stock suspension is better, of course. YammieNoob says he'd rather have the CRF300L be $6500 and come with good suspension instead of $5100. I disagree. The stock suspension is fine for many people forever and if it was $6500 they wouldn't have that option. You can upgrade to the pretty damn good suspension of your choice for $1400 aftermarket. I upgraded the stock shock on my 250 Rally with a stronger spring for a 130 kg rider (285 in 'murican), a 2nd RaceTech spring in the forks, and upgraded valving all round for US$950 including labour from MotoSR in Taupo NZ. Night&day. Now you can hit whoops at speed without the tail kicking, jump off ledges without bottoming etc. I also only paid US$4200 registered and taxed and on the road for my 2019 250 Rally brand new in mid 2020 (last one the shop had), so it *still* with upgraded suspension only owes me $5150 (plus the two sets of tyres I've been through in 8500 km).
I've had a WR250R, WR450F, YZ450F, and DRZ400E The smaller WR250R was honestly the most fun bike I've ever had. You can really throw them around on the trails.
You can move the brake hose by loosening the banjo bolt on the master a little and rotating it slightly forward or back to change the angle it points at so it'll end up out of your line of sight a little better. If you loosen it too much you might end up needing to bleed the front brakes, but it's super easy on that bike.
I have the 300 Rally and it's my 10th bike. Yes I'm an old guy. I put over 100 miles on mine today highway, and Oregon dirt roads. I love it. I put a windshield extention on it and can enjoy lifting my face shield at highway speed. Oh that brake hose isn't in the way of the display 😁
You can absolutely rev the piss out of this thing. Trek Ethos did 1000 miles in one day on the Rally version basically redlining in top gear with no issues, still getting 50mpg.
I just bought a slightly used 2021 CRF 300L and love the little motorcycle. The suspension is not as bad as everyone says. Yes, it is soft but very pleasant. I weigh 269 pounds and the suspension supports me fine for highway and smooth grass trails. It may bottom out on bumps but who cares. I am not planning jumps at 68 years old lol. The gearing is taller than my Kawasaki x300 Versys. I plan to lower the CRF this week because my inseam is a mere 29" and I cannot flat foot this bike. I had the same issue with my Kawasaki until I lowered it. Soupy's makes great lowering links for both these motorcycles. I have owned the largest BMW adventure and cruiser bikes, Harley Sportster and Honda Goldwing and these little adventure bikes are far nicer to own and ride. Both bikes are more than capable and more fun than a barrel of monkeys!!
I have 33k+ on my cbr300r that I converted to a trail bike. I’ve only changed the oil and made repairs. Never checked the valves. It’s just starting to use oil. I just bought that crf300l 2022 and am going to maintain it to the t. Love the thing
Great review thanks. Just bought 40 acres here in Australia and was looking at one of these for the farm but also something I can ride to work as well. Actually going to put a deposit on one today but I think it's about 6-8 month wait.
Got the CRF250L….Good little bike and many have crossed the world on them. Not a GS but then there is something to be said for small. It’s a Honda. nuff said there.
I've been holding back from getting this bike for months. I think after watching this today, I'm just going to get it. Screw it. Haha, I'm a beginner. I've rode dirtbikes here and there, but never actually took my time and really got a feel for any bike. I feel like this would be perfect. especially with where I live tons of dirt roads, so I feel like this would suit me well just to get on and cruise around.
Never in my life have I seriously wished I had more money, I get by and live comfortably but riding motorcycles has made me want to make more money just so I can buy all sorts of different bikes. This shit is financially crippling and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Good beginner bike for long legged folks, 32"+ inseam. I have 30" inseam and have a 300Rally with RaceTech suspension and it is TALL, good thing it is light.
I am definitely into speed, but am still interested in this bike. After years of not riding and never riding much to begin with. I think its the best solution to get back into riding.
I work with a pilot who used to run desert races and hare and hounds in the 60s to the 80s and still rides. He's looking to get one of these, so it's not only for beginners.
I really like to have a begginer bike or scooter i dont have experience but now watching your video make me realise that i want to ride a bike. i want to join your sweepstakes also but im not from the US.
Itchy boots covered a lot of klm through many country’s and the engine never broke down she did do the clutch plates once but the mud was exceptionally bad
Watching this ride I see it now. I had a 250L Rally and never could understand why guys complained about that brake line blocking the dash. The rally however had a windshield preventing the line from being blown back obstructing the view to the dash. This ride you can see that line affected by wind so now I finally understand why guys didn't like it...
My first bike was a DRZ SM and I have been recommending that bike for years. I've added this and the KLX300 to that list, as they're a nice step up from the DRZ. They're going to be a great bike to pick up used once they've been on the market for a few years.
@@paradox206 Your opinion about less horsepower, less torque and worse suspension being a step up is anything but objective. But that's why the DRZ is still more expensive than your subpar quality 300 cc toys 20 years later 😂.
@@silvajay6443 I've had a 250 Rally for two years. Of course the 300 is better. More power, lighter weight. Enough better to spent many thousands of dollars to switch? I don't think so. I've put $950 into upgrading the suspension on the 250 instead.
I don’t understand the classification of this as a beginner bike . That implies people will trade it in for something bigger / heavier as soon as they are experienced . The low weight doesn’t exist in bigger bikes unless you go for something with short service intervals .
I never understood his hard fascination with lightweight bikes. Unless you are doing constant hard offroad, it's not really a major factor unless you start going into the 700+ lbs class. But eh...
It’s a beginner bike because an entry level rider can jump on this thing and learn very easily. It has nothing to do with the “implication” of where they will go afterwards
@@Gofr5 I used to ride motocross and light weight was essential to confidence, performance and fun off road . We’re not all Poll Torres, able to throw around 200kg (440lb) bikes in the dirt 😂
@@yammienoob I understand . For some reason “beginner bike” just grates every time I hear it. I think it’s the machismo us males are meant to feel about our ride .
Here in Thailand the bike costs 4,500 Dollars and the KLX 7,600 Dollars. That's a lot of bucks left over to buy suspension, etc and still have plenty of cash left!!!!! I've just bought the CRF300L........
The reason I don’t buy the Honda over the XT250 was the seat height. The Honda was more attractive with its features but as an older rider at 5’7” it’s to tall for me. If you’re not going to much highway riding I think the Yamaha is a better beginning bike my riding experience is 45 years.
Ok they just need to make a 325cc with slightly taller gears and actual suspension. Heavier guys in a headwind won’t have fun on the freeway with this. Needs just a smidge more to be a true all rounder imo
How does papa spite feel on this ergonomically speaking? I’m 6’3”, 250 and a bit concerned how the suspension/triangle are gonna be for someone my size.
Im 180 and 6.2 on a 2022 klx. I turned my rear preload up with about an inch to go. I also stiffened the compression front and rear with more clicks to go. I put a 30mm bar riser on as well. Check out my vids if you want. The suspension feels great and I can stand up with a slight hunch forward and its pretty comfortable. Honda would definitely need suspension work if youre over 150lbs.
My best guess is any budget bike under 10 grand needs suspension work that usually brings the budget bikes price up to 10 grand...some ancient Japanese tradition...lol
I have a few videos of my camo 2022 klx 300 on my channel. Its a great do it all bike for the price. The suspension is more adjustable and higher performing than the honda. The engine is slightly bigger as well. Over all they are pretty close. Random offroad trails to running errands around town it always puts a smile on my face. I usually get a few compliments on how cool the bike looks.
Or third option: older small displacement bike. You figure out what kind of riding you actually like and then after half-year/year you get rid of it and buy something that fits your style.
What was the reason for saying to avoid the cbr500? I've never ridden 8ne but I was under the impression that it was a super cheap and mellow little bike that just happened to look more sporty than it is.
@yammie Noob. You said your WR250 feels more peppy? I was wondering how if the honda has better low end power due to its longer stroke. Remember its the same bore as the 250L it just achieved the extra cc's due to stoking the engine. I cant see the Yahaha feeling more grunty or quicker down low in theory at least. Btw great video
I’m very interested in getting a CRF300l! I plan on driving it mainly on the street and occasionally take it on a very light trail! Would this be the right bike fire me? Would be my first bike by the way
Yes, but you'll want upgrade suspension. I rode my buddy's a few weeks ago and it's pretty dang soft but otherwise damn near perfect. I'm 6' 1", 225lbs also with 32" inseam. It fit pretty comfortable, not crowded, pegs in a good place, super easy to squeeze and mauever around. Bars need to be rotated forward if it were mine to make standing a little more ergonomic or just new bars. Seat sits lower than I'm used to and yeah it's easy to jostle the jewels like Yammy said. It's compeerable to klx300 but I think better value for money, after new rear suspension.
I got the klx300sm, great bike but if I didn't like going to the small track near me I'd have went with the dirt setup. really just boils down to where you want to ride.

I work with a pilot who used to run desert races and hare and hounds in the 60s to the 80s and still rides. He's looking to get one of these, so it's not only for beginners.
Beginner friendly.
I intend to move to Barcelona within the next year I’m buying one of these when I move 100%
The best motorcycle youtuber ever ❤️
I really like to have a begginer bike or scooter i dont have experience but now watching your video make me realise that i want to ride a bike. i want to join your sweepstakes also but im not from the US.
Grab some warp 9 wheels with sumo tires if you are a road only rider! the erginomics of the bike allow for greater lean angle than even race bikes.
Do you have a video on what gear to get as a noob?
I would so dig this as a first off road bike who can bop around on the streets too.
Could you do a comparison of this to the WR
Itchy boots covered a lot of klm through many country’s and the engine never broke down she did do the clutch plates once but the mud was exceptionally bad
Gearing sounds like it's a perfect-ish trail/exploration bike.
think I'm gonna get one... I'm a panzy on new trails lol
how's the handle bar vibration? does it make your hands numb after riding it for long?
The 250 rally doesn't .
The Rally has the dash in a completely different, much higher, place. It doesn't get obstructed.
My steering wheel was always in the way in my 2012 honda accord l9l same for my mom, dad, brother, gf, and best friend all different heights
My first bike was a DRZ SM and I have been recommending that bike for years. I've added this and the KLX300 to that list, as they're a nice step up from the DRZ. They're going to be a great bike to pick up used once they've been on the market for a few years.
More like step down.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, your opinion, man.
@@paradox206 Your opinion about less horsepower, less torque and worse suspension being a step up is anything but objective. But that's why the DRZ is still more expensive than your subpar quality 300 cc toys 20 years later 😂.
@@FlameHazeist because paying more for a bike that hasn't changed in 20 something years is a good thing
@@FlameHazeist 🤡
Who cares about the speed as long as your on 2 wheels and having fun
Can we see how the 300l compares to the 250l? That would be cool
my thoughts exactly about to buy a 250 rally but wondering if this would be better
@@silvajay6443 300 probably would be quite a bit better. Just has that extra oomph that makes highways doable
@@silvajay6443 I've had a 250 Rally for two years. Of course the 300 is better. More power, lighter weight. Enough better to spent many thousands of dollars to switch? I don't think so. I've put $950 into upgrading the suspension on the 250 instead.
When are you gonna actually review the himalayan instead of that spec sheet breakdown you did?
@@nickclarkuk Well yeah, that's why I specified the hard offroading caveat.
Here in Thailand the bike costs 4,500 Dollars and the KLX 7,600 Dollars. That's a lot of bucks left over to buy suspension, etc and still have plenty of cash left!!!!!
I've just bought the CRF300L........
There is a channel called Itchy Boots and she is doing a trip on one of these from the southern tip of South America all the way to Alaska.
The reason I don’t buy the Honda over the XT250 was the seat height. The Honda was more attractive with its features but as an older rider at 5’7” it’s to tall for me. If you’re not going to much highway riding I think the Yamaha is a better beginning bike my riding experience is 45 years.
one day youll do a review on the honda navi, its my 18th birthday and everything
Giveaway bike selling feature: The gas tank crushed Yammie’s Boi’s
We need to see a video of your Husqvarna FE501 that’s the dual sport I’m interested in
Ok they just need to make a 325cc with slightly taller gears and actual suspension.
I’ve ridden both the klx will fit better
250 means your going to bottom the suspension often. I'm 220 and it's not nearly enough for me. Way to soft.
Thinking about getting a Honda Xr
10 days till I pick up mine...! 👍👍👍
Its a Honda... I would reave my little super cub to max all the time... Miss that bike a lot
I love my 300L Rally!
I hope to have a 501 or 701 some day
Me to
I would love to own this bike, N+1 am I right?
This vs svartpilen 401 vs honda scl500. Tough choice.
500X
I have a CB300R which has the same motor which I think is actually pretty feisty regardless of the HP and torque numbers.
I'm in the process of deciding what first bike to get and I have a dilemma: would it be better to buy a modern (
Mt07
I bought recently a 650 xf freewind .. very satisfied
@@TypicalMT way too expensive for my budget unfortunately
Or third option: older small displacement bike. You figure out what kind of riding you actually like and then after half-year/year you get rid of it and buy something that fits your style.
@@jankom.7783 I don't know how it's possible but where I live it's hard af to find old small displacement bikes
What was the reason for saying to avoid the cbr500? I've never ridden 8ne but I was under the impression that it was a super cheap and mellow little bike that just happened to look more sporty than it is.
I think its too good or they have barely made any of them because i cant find them ANYWHERE
second time requesting some warp 9s to go with it :)
Would be my first bike by the way
It is great for that if you have longer legs...32"+ inseam.
@@DaBinChe I’m 6 foot 180 I should be fine I think
Would this bike be a good option for a bigger first time rider? 32 inseam 6ft 2 250lbs
Having ridden both the klx 300 would be a better fit
Please compare the KLX 300 to this!!
If ur complaining about lack of power for a beginner bike... try being a 17 year old in the uk... it’s 15hp or nothin
Do you also think that the rear shock is too soft?
I'm deciding between this or the klx300sm for my first bike... finding one is the difficult part.
I got the klx300sm, great bike but if I didn't like going to the small track near me I'd have went with the dirt setup. really just boils down to where you want to ride.
