    I just found one used for a fraction of the retail price so I'm hoping I can get some good sound from it. I usually play pop and top hit ballads.

    Hi Mr.Nigel, you are so good, I'm 18yrs Vietnamese. I really love Dave koz songs and i also love the Theo Wanne durga 3 not only because of its wonderful sound but its appearance. I'm very confused which one, the beechler belite custom or the theo wanne, is better for pop songs. I a little bit prefer the Theo Wanne, but it cost twice as much as the Beechler. So could you give me some of your review about that? Thanks a lot.

      The Durga is gonna be a bit more versatile and quite a lot easier to play, but it you want "THAT TONE" go with the Belite. The Durga will also give plenty of brightness and edge. The Belite is DEFINITELY brighter though and louder. Both mouthpieces are GREAT, just depends on what tone you're going after.

    IMO Jumbo Java walks all over this mouthpiece, and for much less money. I think the durga accents freq that aren't exactly desirable on a alto sax (to high in the mid range). I like warmness to the sound, but IMO the Jumbo Java A55&75 does this better. If you need a bit more edge and brightness, then there is the A45. Not just different tips but different facings all together
    Saying that. Your a great player man. Thanks for the videos.

      +TheMovieEditor No problem, good to hear your opinion. I like the Jumbo Java for tenor (I used one for a while) but for me it wasn't as versatile. Mouthpieces are a very personal thing. I guess that's why there are so many different ones out there!

    • @TheMovieEditor
      @TheMovieEditor 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried a lot of pieces, but I've used the A45 for almost 30 years now. It's survived a lot of good mpc trials. I've owned many mpc's, but the jumbo just has that sultry Tenor sound that I love on a alto.
      I'd like to hear you on different alto mpc's. I need to go through more of your videos and check them out. Good stuff.

      @@TheMovieEditor I'll possibly agree with that.. but the Mindi abair smokes the Java. So much more edge and power

      I have a YAS82Z Tenor and just love the sound, tone and the feel of it!! I'm planning on upgrading my old band alto to a Yamaha Pro Alto, but it's between the Yas62II or Yas875EXII...

    • @JunkMailBoxStuff
      @JunkMailBoxStuff 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +PonchMuniz Play them side by side to do a serious comparison. Order both for a trial period to buy one. They are similar, but only to a point. I selected the 875 to the end of my 2 week trial period (multiple actually blindfolded tests done). I've never looked back. For me the 875 can do everything the Z can, but more. Just my own personal experience, but like shoes ... it's a different fit for everyone, so try them on. 😉

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool
      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Edward. Generally you get a smoother sound with less projection from a hard rubber mouthpiece than with a metal. It’s not always this way,but that’s a good starting point. Another good thing to do is to look at other great players and what mouthpieces they use to give you an idea of sound. I’ve interviewed lots of big name players in the “romance”saxophone scene. Check them out the Dave Koz interview here: www.mcgillmusic.com/articles/dave-koz-interview

    I use a rubber meyer no5 medium while using 2.5 medium reeds and I was informed that theo wanne no5 is the equivalent both having the same tip opening, will the theo be as responsive as the meyer since the have the same tip opening and will it sound different on my Yamaha yas 875 thank you

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool
      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, great question. Having the same tip opening, they will be about the same to play, but each mouthpiece has it's own sound. It's best if you can try and compare yourself in a shop before deciding.

    Can you play classical music with it aswell or is it specially designed for jazz ?

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool
      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Personally I think it's a bit bright for classical work, I think the Durga is better for jazz / commercial playing.

    Whats the difference between sizes?? There's sizes 6-10

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool
      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Bluezeny good question. The bigger the size, the bigger the gap between the tip of the mouthpiece and the reed. So basically, a larger size means a more open mouthpiece - harder to blow but bigger sound.

    What does "SIZE" MEAN ON A MOUTH PIECE?????

    • @McGillMusicSaxSchool
      @McGillMusicSaxSchool  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Edward. The "size" of a mouthpiece generally refers to the distance at the tip between the mouthpiece and the reed. This is also called the "tip opening".
