Whether you're a DIY enthusiast or a homeowner looking to understand the installation process, this step-by-step guide will help you achieve a successful upflush toilet installation.
    In this video, we'll cover everything you need to know:
    Determining the Ideal Location: We'll show you how to choose the perfect spot for your upflush toilet, considering its proximity to a sewer line or septic tank for efficient waste disposal.
    Installing the Macerating Unit: The macerating unit is the core component of the upflush toilet system. Learn how to install it in a location that ensures easy access for future maintenance and repairs.
    Connecting the Pipes: Discover the proper techniques for connecting the pipes from the toilet to the macerating unit and from the macerating unit to the sewer line or septic tank. We'll emphasize the importance of secure sealing to prevent any potential leaks.
    Toilet Installation: Follow our expert tips to correctly position and secure the toilet on top of the flange connected to the macerating unit. Ensuring a stable installation is crucial for long-term functionality.
    Water Supply Connection: Learn how to connect the water supply to the upflush toilet, enabling the necessary flushing power for efficient waste disposal.
    Testing the System: We'll guide you through the vital step of testing the upflush toilet system. By flushing the toilet multiple times, you can verify the absence of leaks and ensure the waste is being properly pumped to the sewer line or septic tank.
    Final Inspection: After testing, conduct a thorough final inspection to guarantee that all components are correctly installed and the system is functioning as intended.
    Remember, it's essential to consult the manufacturer's instructions specific to your upflush toilet model as installation requirements may vary. If you lack plumbing experience, we strongly recommend hiring a professional plumber to ensure a safe and optimal installation.

    I’m a Master Plumber and would have no problem using sharkbite fittings. Yes, it’s sealed by a rubber O-ring, but so are ProPress fittings. Sharkbite fittings have been extensively engineered, tested, and retested. They can hold up to 200psi, 2.5 times the pressure you would see in most homes which is 80psi max. They’re also rated to 200 degrees. That’s darn near the boiling point of water! After doing some research, I found out that “push fittings” were invented for maritime applications as a quick way to make a repair to a ship’s water supply. Every old school plumber that I’ve talked to who hates sharkbite, when I ask why they hate them, the only answer I get is, “They leak”. Give me a break! I’ve seen them leak, but only because of improper installation. You can’t cut copper pipe with a hacksaw and install a sharkbite fitting, it will slice the o-ring. I’ve also seen them blow off because they were not seated all the way on to the pipe. I’ve seen two that blew off because they froze, but in both cases you could see deep teeth marks on the pipe, where the teeth inside the fitting were trying to grab onto the pipe! Perhaps some old school plumbers don’t like them, because they are too easy to install? It’s a good product, but not cheap. Granted I wouldn’t Plumb an entire house with sharkbite fittings, that would get expensive. I’ve seen push fittings on drinking fountains, a few faucets, and water filter systems (these fittings installed by the manufacturer!). If it’s good enough for them it’s good enough for me.
    Speaking of ProPress. A guy who I went through trade school with went to work for a company who’s owner didn’t believe in sharkbite and was too cheap to buy a ProPress. Tech’s would have to wait sometimes a very long time and fight to get all the water out of the pipe to start soldering. Until one day a very experienced tech was soldering, trying to make a repair and touched the paper backing on some wall insulation with the tip of the torch flame. There was fire damage. The owners insurance cost went up. The next week the owner of the company went out and bought 4 ProPress machines (tax write off for him) and forbid soldering inside buildings! All soldering had to be done outside. If a tech couldn’t fit the ProPress gun into an area to make a repair, a sharkbite fitting suddenly became acceptable to use! Funny how things change when you start talking insurance liability and company reputation... Now that company uses almost all ProPress fittings on every copper job they do. They found out that even though the fittings are more expensive, the cost is offset because there is less prep work to the pipe, no prep work to the fittings, no cost of Gas, solder, or Flux, and ProPress is quicker to install. Plus you don’t have to get all of that aggravating water out of the pipe...
    Sorry for the rant. Keep up the good work Claude!

      So what is a master plumber there Rob? In some states a master plumber is someone that past the state or city test and is not an apprentice anymore. In other states a master plumber is a 4 generation plumber from a family of plumbers. So what is a master Plumber? Some master plumbers are house plumbers and never worked on anything but a resident. Some master plumbers have a full range of understanding of the trade and are mechanics as the Plumbers in the Plumbers and pipefitters union call themselves. So Once again, What is a master plumber? Hmm and you don't have a problem with sharkbits? Do you as a master plumber understand sheer forces. Some tradesmen understand the engineering and physics of mechanical engineering. Plumbing falls into that section of engineering. Hmm. You suggest that the cut on copper pipe has to be correct when using a sharkbit. Ok well cutting copper with a chop saw make a cut that is often without need of reaming but it is a good idea to use your pencil reamer anyway. I will ask you this> How much movement on the pipe will cause the sharkbit to lose it's integret? Does water hammer cause movement of pipe regularly? not to mention ground movement in some areas of this country. What is the sheer force need on a pex joint or a soldered copper joint verses your sharkbit to cause failure? Master Plumber?

      @@kurash2 I installed an upflow toilet in my basement and so far the experience has been great. We’ve had it for about 6 months. We opted for the higher product with the stronger macerator and so far everything has been ok.
      The toilet itself doesn’t carry as much water in it, so cleaning it is a bit more work. As long as you keep up with that and install it correctly, I think it’s an absolutely fantastic option if you don’t want to bust holes into your foundation or have other difficult situations.

    I'm installing a second bathroom in a single-wide residential mobile home. The home is installed on blocks as a crawlspace foundation, and doesn't have enough height in the sewage drain line for a second connection. A second septic system would have cost over $7,000.00. The SFA macerator unit with a back flush toilet allows installation of a second bathroom where a bathroom was impossible feasibly and in an affordable budget.

    What is the reason not to tie the pump vent into the house vent?

    • @theartofplumbing
      @theartofplumbing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great Question
      It seems the upflush company is requiring you to upsize the venting as a precaution, even though your current venting setup may be adequate for the existing plumbing fixtures in your home.
      Plumbing systems require proper venting to allow air to enter the system, preventing siphonage and backpressure. The size and configuration of the venting must be capable of handling the maximum drainage load based on the number and types of fixtures in the plumbing system.
      My assumption is that while your current venting may technically be large enough for the current fixtures you have, the inspector wants you to upsize it now to account for any potential future expansion. By upsizing the venting now, you ensure the system will be equipped to handle additional fixtures if you add them later - for example if you finish the basement and add a bathroom down there. The inspector is trying to save you from having to modify the venting later if you do add more drainage load to the system.
      In summary, the inspector is taking a cautious approach and having you oversize the venting to anticipate possible future needs. This avoids grandfathering in an undersized vent system that could require expensive modifications if you add more fixtures. Let me know if this explanation makes sense or if you need any clarification!

    • @theartofplumbing
      @theartofplumbing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on the plumbing codes in your area yours may be different. It may be possible that you can run your vent out and up the outside wall, but if your in an area where it freezes that won't work. What I have done in the past when installing a bath in the basement. I would run basement plumbing vents up and through the back of a closet on the floor above. It can be done just to be a little creative.

    Great Video! I have a saniflo that kept gurgling after a flush like it did not have enough power to push up the sewage from the tank. I have talked to the saniflo tech people and they said it might be the bladder and the capacitor. So needless to say I had to buy the items. Two things to ask: with the gurgling do you think there might be something stuck in the up flush pipe that would cause such noise or do you think it is the pipe with the flap on the unit that could be causing the issue? Also, the installer that put the toilet in used the bolts to go directly inter the concrete. When I attempted to take the bolts out they broke off. Still have some of it in the concrete as I write this. How would you go about drilling new holes and extracting the bolds and putting a bolt in there and using a nut to secure the bowel like you did?
