Fantastic Jim thanks for explaining each step in the process of installing the upflush toilet. Like installing a wall mount toilet there are many small jobs involved in completing the installation. You were very careful to follow the manufacturers instructions which is always very important.
Hey Jim. Good video. My brother wants me to install one of these in his place. You make it look easy enough. As long as you are handy to start with.😋😋 Thanks for sharing.👍👍🍁🙏
Seems that if you are on a sloping block, and you want to pump uphill, you have a problem with this system. Our ordinary septic system with pumpwell, is able to pump uphill straight from the pumpwell?
Hi Jim. Thanks for doing this vid! I’m about to install one of these in our basement. Where did you source your Sani-flo? I think the box stores will order them but I’ve also seen them online from various websites. Curious if you found a good price. Thanks man!
Good video. One comment. Instead of using two 45 degree elbows, I'm pretty sure you can use a single long sweep 90 degree ell. The 90 long actually has slightly lower resistance to flow and two connections opposed to four for the 45's.
Do they make just a pump for a shower in basement?Where would I hook discharge?Have a sink and toilet in basement roughed in and no need for a grinder type pump.
I just installed one of these myself with the help of your video, is the water level in the toilet supposed to be really low. I noticed there's no more adjustment in the tank it just seems like the level should be higher
Great video! 👍 I've been plumbing for a little over 3 years so I wanted an excuse to install one of these bad boys. We normally wouldn't use an S trap because of siphonage, but I won't nit-pick lol. Doing a shower might be a lot more work because you have to build a 6" platform for it to sit on, but less than breaking up concrete. Overall a great video! 👍
Thanks for the video. What needs done to protect the electrical outlet? My pumps instructions says the 120VAC Outlet need to be protected by a 3amp fuse. How is that accomplished? Or is the 20 amp circuit breaker all you used?
i have a below ground toilet, sink and shower with a tank and pump (not sure the brand) but its about 25 years old and seems to have died? at least the breaker keeps tripping. I thought I might replace the breaker first to see if that is the only problem, but if the whole system needs to be replaced, I may need to do something like this. Most of the plumbing is already i n place I think, but part of it runs under a wooden floor! The current toilet sits on top of a small grey platform with the pump and tank underneath that I think!! wish me luck!!
I bought the saniflo saniaccess 3 and the instructions are kinda vague it doesnt say anything venting the accessories like shower or the sink I see you vented the toilet Did you vent your shower p trap?
When having a one of these systems in your house. Is it best to have shower on one side and toilet and basin on another side of the system. I currently have my shower and basin and toilet on one side of the system and i found that water takes long to drain out when having a shower
I'm installing mine right now, once I put the tank it feels slightly wobbly. Not like it's going to fall or anything it just wobbles a little bit (it is still empty) Is this normal? I feel like the bolts are really tight and I don't want to break it
Invest in a T handle nut runner it torqued for the correct weight for the sized nut for your hose clamps. Try using pvc pipe cleaner and then the glue if you want to be more like a “professional plumber”. The smaller screws that he was saying it to mount the W/C to the floor they get the longer screw and the tank gets mounted to the floor with the smaller screws.
Hello, i have a cast iron main pipe. I don’t want to mess with it/cut it. In the basement I have a sink like yours with existing pipe that drains into this pipe probably 2”. I was wondering if I were to use this 2” pipe for the saniflo discharge line instead of routing it to the main pipe, would it work?
I can not say for sure, if I understand what you want to do. My guess is you are going to come off the saniflo tank with 1” into a 2” pipe. I think that would work. I would call Saniflo costumer service and ask that question. Sorry I cannot give you a definite answer. Thanks for watching my video. Hope you get it figured out.
Simpler system in west Africa was an accordian part similar to what you had in the rear of the toilet (without that whole kit and kaboodle parts) and a straight pvc pipe to the suk-away (sewage). Same size pipes but fewer bells and whistles. If you can get a direct line to your sewage pipe, all you need is gravity.
Good job and explained very well. I have a question, I have radiant heat in my floor. How would you attach the flush to the floor? I’d love your input on that please!!! Dave
Plumber here-The “S”trap is missing the vent, probably the shower also. FYI, the fixture unit count for the system exceeds the 2” line a lot. I hope that you don’t have any sewer gas issues when the pump cycles.
@@DIYJIM I am referring to the missing vents for the individual fixtures and the connection to a sewer system. The discharge of the pump/ grinder will fill a 2” pipe. The last one that I professionally installed required a 3 or 4” branch connection to the system.
@@JTTTTx So far it seems totally fine. I questioned that in the beginning. Called Saniflo and talked to the plubing store I bought it off of. It has been working great for 6 months and gets used hard. Thank you for your input.
@@DIYJIM I just afraid that others might not install it exactly as you illustrated and have a few problems. And are you sure that Saniflo’s installation instructions didn’t say something about all fixtures should be properly installed to local codes and connected to at least 3”
I presume that a Saniflo can be used with a siphonic toilet bowl (that has a relatively high water level and `flushes' to zero water level when the cistern is flushed) which is the industry standard toilet in North America. `Washdown' type toilets, usual in Europe, can also be used.
@@DIYJIM the reason I asked is I just had a plumber installed Saniflo toilet with shower and sink in my basement. He told me he didn’t make air vent yet and will do it next time he come. But he said we can use the bathroom meanwhile, it will works. I haven’t use it but decided to search internet instead, that’s how I saw your shows. What he said raised my eyebrows after watching your show. Please tell me it’s true we can use it without air vent? What he said doesn’t seem right to me. Please reply.
I noticed old school plumbers don’t like this system and prefer the pit system. they always say good luck when you service it. Are there any drawbacks with this system other than the shower platform needs to be built which is not that hard
So far so good. I went this way because I didn’t want to cut up my concrete. I really wasn’t going to worry about servicing it because I plan on doing it myself. So far I’m happy with my decision. Thanks for watching my video.
I’m a plumber and every plumber hates these. These toilets do not work when you have a power outage because the pump cannot turn on, so you will possibly overflow the toilet. Additionally, the 3” gasket leaks poopy water after a few years on many models. Another problem is that the pump will maybe last 10 years if you’re lucky (the saniflo website even says this). After 10-12 years, you may get poopy water all over your bathroom from the pump failing and then have to clean it up, buy a new Saniflo toilet or pump, and then wait for it to happen again in ten more years. Tearing up the concrete to make a permanent conventional toilet drain is a little messy and noisy but it’s a once-and-done job. PVC drain line will last forever under the concrete if you install it right. Normal toilets function by gravity and you can buy a cheap toilet for $100. Most toilets have readily available repair parts at any hardware store. The saniflo is at least ten times the price if not 20 times the price, depending what model you get, and you have to special order the repair parts. If you or your kids flush things in the saniflo that it shouldn’t have in it, it will also clog it eventually. Macerating pumps should only have poop, pee, water, and toilet paper flushed into them. Dental floss, hygiene products, “flushable” wipes, etc, will possibly gum the blades up and burn the pump out.
@@MarlinRoth Sanilfo started in France and my impression is that they are well engineered units. From Saniflo website:- 1. `Saniflo products lasts about 10 to 15 years, if not longer. They have been tested for about 50,000 cycles, flushed 10 x a day = 3,650 flushes a year. As this was a standard test, it was stopped at 50,000 cycles, therefore they will last much longer' 2. `Maintenance is not required for any of our products. However, we recommend the use Saniflo's Descaler which acts as a cleanser and descaler'. I agree that kids chucking stuff in the toilet that they shouldn't will be the most likely hazard with these units.
@@Martindyna I agree in some sense that the engineering is impressive as a method of avoiding cutting into concrete, but they are much more disgusting and expensive to fix/replace when they have problems than a normal toilet would be. Generally a conventional toilet could last 20-50 years without any major issues if it is installed correctly, and by the time it has an issue, a handy homeowner can repair it for less than $50, or they can replace the toilet it for less than $300.
@@MarlinRoth Definitely an unappealing job to attend to a failed Saniflo full of 💩 😂. Perhaps could be made less unpleasant if another connection is made under the additional ball valve he fitted on the 1” outlet pipe. Then you could perhaps use a wet vac on the new connection while pouring fresh water into the toilet? The wet vac connection would of course have to be as close to the Saniflo unit’s height as possible since any ‘head’ will reduce the chance of success (can’t ‘suck’ more than 1 metre head of water as you know).
I would not have used shark bites… and you could’ve been neater with the primer. But thanks for all the information. Saniflo seems like a good brand…… but 1” waste….. I don’t like it. But oh well!! Thank you sir
I wish a lot of men would stop saying that because you got a lot of good men out here that bust their ass and you got a lazy woman that thinks that she can say you know happy wife, happy life no you make that man that’s the breadwinner that gives respect gives up his big dollars to make his wife happy that woman also probably keeps upkeep of his home, cleans it and takes care of the kids. That’s the meaning of happy life happy wife, it takes two people and dude you describe this better is some of the guys that are plumbers I’m a master plumber and I don’t like it being behind the wall unless there’s a accessibility
You're correct. Sadly, "Happy wife, happy life" is mistaken in our society as a "normal" thing. Thusly, it connotes a one-sided relationship. Most importantly, it is NOT Biblical. It needs to be an EQUAL partnership.
@@slammnlex very close to reality actually, it’s different for me as I’m a licensed plumber but doing it your self it definitely would be, key points, sani flow 1200$ plus, sewage pit 600$, real toilet 200$, jack hammer rental 50$ concrete 50$ (ball park) 300$ left on the table if you valued your time at 50$ ph you could definitely jack hammer that floor out in 6-8 hours, no raised showers and most importantly no eye sore of a ridiculous 3/4” discharge trouble prone sani flow toilet 🙂 so close actually it would be a shame not to but hey that’s just me
@@derekmcdowell2547 how much would it cost for you to do the plumbing . Digging the pit isn’t really to hard . I can bring a concrete saw home from work and a Bosch jackhammer
@@derekmcdowell2547 I only need a half bath. But toilet is my main concern. I’d rather not install the saniflow but seems like a cheaper easier alternative to hiring someone

And are you sure that Saniflo’s installation instructions didn’t say something about all fixtures should be properly installed to local codes and connected to at least 3”
I recently installed one of these units, is it normal for the water level in the toilet bowl to be that low? Does it do a good job staying clean?
My water level does the same thing. It also does seem to need cleaned more than my normal toilet. Other than that I like it so far.
I presume that a Saniflo can be used with a siphonic toilet bowl (that has a relatively high water level and `flushes' to zero water level when the cistern is flushed) which is the industry standard toilet in North America. `Washdown' type toilets, usual in Europe, can also be used.
Hi If i get a Saniflo Macerator , can you fit it to a normal convention toilet like my conventional toilet i have in my bathroom upstairs
No it is different
The way you have installed it by not fitting it to the floor is better as this won’t create additional vibration.
Thanks for watching
Just installed one 2 days ago. How much water is in your bowl after a flush? Is it normal to be little compared to a regular toilet?
Sorry I can not tell you. I have been wondering the same thing. It seems to work good so I’m guessing that is normal. Thanks for watching
It is normal. Way less than a std toilet.
I wish I could have seen how you measured and cut the pieces and the wall.
Sorry I didn’t show that. Thanks for watching
Im in south African where do iget that
Really not sure where you can get it in South Africa. I bought mine at my local plumbing store. Hope you find it
What size concrete drill bit would I need for the toilet anchor bolts?

Where does the air vent go?
My air vent goes out my roof. Thanks for watching
@@vanlalkimasailo I’m going to guess it is vented into your room still. I would guess it should still work but it could smell a little.
Do these plug alot? Asking cause teenage boy in the basement😂
I have 3-4 teenager boys using it almost everyday so far no problems. Thanks for watching

From Saniflo website:-
1. `Saniflo products lasts about 10 to 15 years, if not longer. They have been tested for about 50,000 cycles, flushed 10 x a day = 3,650 flushes a year. As this was a standard test, it was stopped at 50,000 cycles, therefore they will last much longer'
Question how does waste 💩 go through that small pipe to the sower ???
There is a grinder pump in the tank. Crazy but it works.
where does the sewage go to?
To my 3" sewage pipe that goes out of my house. You see it in the video. Thanks for watching
Thanks 🙏☮️🫡✌🏻
You are so welcome
I would not have used shark bites… and you could’ve been neater with the primer. But thanks for all the information. Saniflo seems like a good brand…… but 1” waste….. I don’t like it. But oh well!! Thank you sir
Thanks for watching it’s working great so far. I have a shower hooked up to it now. I’m happy with it.
Its all in the way it is designed. The pump grinds the waste into very small parts and the one inch pipe gives the pump the pressure to expel it.

Is this in make believe land or reality? There’s no way it’s the same price with all the work involved unless you do it yourself
