    Allison Bajada, you are spectacularly open minded and intelligent, thank you for producing this video! I look forward to follow up videos perhaps about assorted insect recipes for North America or perhaps a video about how we can help inspire a society to change including a collection of benefits and suggestions for implementation.

    No, thanks, I stick with veganism. That also goes hand in hand with the compassion you mentioned. Bugs want to live, too. Plus, insects are victims of the current mass extinction as well, so maybe we should leave them and all the other animals alone.

    • @nautkippenbout3100
      @nautkippenbout3100 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn´t nature and everything it grows live too? Plants and trees and berries are not alive? I think they are and that those things should be living too as they provide nature and nature provides earth and thus us. So in the end there's nothing for us to eat? No! Just don't over consume, which is happening now unfortunately, and let everyone eat everything, as it's supposed to be. Be kind to earth, but don't limit yourself if you think we're not supposed to eat animals. We do. Animals eat animals.

    If you want people to change their diets to solve socio-economic problems, then I have another suggestion for you: *Dogs.* They are edible, nutritious, and traditionally consumed in many countries outside America. More importantly, there are plenty of dogs readily available-unwanted creatures suffering in "shelters," who are going to be killed anyway. Why waste food?

    Is this vegan? I have no idea...and the taste? Any like lobster?

    • @TheJasonmassia
      @TheJasonmassia 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on the insect, some are indeed like lobster. However, others have a nutty flavor, some an earthy flavor, some minty, some spicy. Plus it depends on how they are cooked. There are many recipes that work well with or cover the natural taste completely.

      Clearly this video wasn't directed at vegans. Catholics believe that only humans have souls. And that they have dominion over everything else. So _1 cow = 100,000 crickets_ is a valid equation, because only nutritional contents are being compared.

    • @EffectiveAgainstSuffering
      @EffectiveAgainstSuffering 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nHans well, I'm not concerned with ideologies as such (Catholicism and whatever). We should carefully examine our broader moral circle to include cows for example. And maybe we shouldn't stop there because scientific finding tell us more and more that there is a probability that a lot of insects feel pain. For some it's already a fact. Why don't we just develop more and better plantbased products and expand R&D for clean meat solutions?

      @@EffectiveAgainstSuffering [Had to break up my reply into multiple parts because it got too long.]
      I’m guessing your question is rhetorical. I’m sure you already know the answer, which is: People cling to their beliefs and traditions, and cannot be persuaded by logic, reasoning, or facts-even if it's for their own benefit. It takes either a long, long time, or a particularly compelling combination of environmental, economic, and social catastrophes to change people's collective habits. Don't ask me _why._ That's how people are.
      The good news is that there are a significant number of vegans among us already-whether for religious or ethical reasons, whether everyday or only occasionally. Their purchasing power is indeed encouraging corporations to research and develop plant-based food, including meat alternatives.
      The bad news is that people won't stop eating animals, even if healthier and cheaper plant-based alternatives are available.
      You understand, no government can mandate veganism. I'm sure you've noticed how the talking heads on Fox lost it based on a _false_ report that Biden was banning hamburgers!
      Peer-pressure plays a big role in forcing everybody's behavior towards the group's norm. If an individual in a meat-eating community decides to go vegan, that person will face so much ridicule, pity, ostracism, and overt and subtle pressure to confirm, s/he either reverts back, or becomes isolated, or leaves, seeking a different group more aligned to his/her beliefs.
      Same with a person who starts eating meat in a vegan family, or starts eating pork in a non-pork-eating religion.
      Guess which way America leans!
      (I’m sure you already know all this; I’m just putting it in words if you want to debate it.)

      @@AM-fh7ek fair point. I think we can agree that there is a lot of suffering in the world that we currently have no chance to eliminate e. g. wild animal suffering. but non-human animals have no moral reasoning as we humans do. they act out of instinct and necessity. but we are evolved moral agents, I would say, who should be able to evaluate if some action is morally good, bad or neutral for others.
