If this helps Abigail Paint is a american breed, Tobiano are white markings on the body, usually soft edged and all 4 feet must be white, Splash is when the white markings start on the legs and go up, sometimes with some showing on the underbelly. Overo is when the white markings are more irregular and sharp shapes over the whole body. Some portuguese/brazillian breeds like the Criollo call the Tobiano and Overo markings Cavalo Pintado, which means painted horse as well, but its just the coat doesn't mean its a paint Hope this clears your confusion!
Also the way the genes work is the foal can only inherit the hidden and the shown pattern/coat of the parents, and they won't inherit a a coat or pattern from a grandsire/granddam. That's why it's good to reveal hidden genes.
I just got a very interesting combo today and was thrilled with it. I don't know horses well but I believe mine is a dark gray apolusa with white speckles all over her shoulders and neck. She's so stunning and her son came out as a tan apolusa with blue eyes. He's so adorable. I did not expect the blue eyes. Both mom and son were a wonderful surprise.

Paint is the breed, which the Paint breed can have solids, or colored horses, and Pinto is a term used for any breed or horse/pony with a patterned color

Based on experience... i think coats are completely RANDOM !!!!!! But i dont think its randomizing color! If u breed 2 chestnuts... ur gonna get some random coat+chestnut or same coat chestnut. Its random! BUT! if you breed 2 of the same type[appy+appy, paint+paint for ex] you WILL get and APPY or an PAINT 😂😊😊😊 This is typed before u got the pinto so 😢😂😂😂

Roans and Appaloosas are two different coats. You can have roan alone and appa alone as well.
