I think Rich is actually a buckskin! ^^ Duns can be recognized by the iconic stripes on their legs and a stripe down their backs. Buckskins are bays with the cream gene, and a palomino is a chestnut with the cream gene; a black with the cream gene would be a smoky black.
A black horse with the dun gene would be a grulla (or grullo) and would typically be a gray-ish shade of brown with stripes on the legs, while a dun on bay would just be called bay dun and have a more desaturated/mild shade of brown (though this does depend on the horse; a really dark bay horse with the dun gene might look like a normal bay with dun markings. In generally: lighter and more „washed out“ than the horse‘s original coat) with stripes on the legs. Dun on chestnut would make a red dun, which is one of my favorite horse coats! ^^
A dunskin is a buckskin with the dun gene, resulting in a bucksin-like blonde-ish coat, black mane, and dun markings! (stripes on the legs, sometimes a darkened shoulder, stripe down the back), so a bay-based horse with one copy of the cream gene and one or two copies of the dun gene. A dunalino would be a palomino with the dun gene, so a chestnut-based horse with one copy of the cream gene and one or two copies of the dun gene. A grulla (grullo) with the cream gene ontop would make a smoky grulla / grullo, so a black-based horse with one copy of the cream gene and one or two copies of the dun gene (I keep saying one or two copies because while cream does express differently depending on wether a horse is CR/CR or CR/n, dun looks the same no matter wether it‘s D/nd2 or D/D).
and while I’m at it; a cremello is a chestnut-based horse with two copies of the cream gene. Some shades of cremello indeed look very white, but aren’t officially white. Perlinos are bay-based horses with two cream alleles; a black horse with two cream alleles would be a smoky cream.
I’m not actually sure what passes as a white horse and why, but I think it has something to do with a rare gene called dominant white? (not gonna go into nd1 and dilutions like silver, champagne and pearl here, but I don’t think the white mane on the black foals is a glitch. Maybe they’re silver?) Edit: I looked for a site that explains this, and I think this one does it decently (with pictures as examples): www.morgancolors.com/dun.htm
Also sorry for the essay ^^‘
Edit 2: Corrected some minor mistakes I noticed while rereading this after 7 months and rephrased some things.
think the one before was a dark buckskin as well, not a bay.
@@itsafrightmare I’ve never seen a buckskin that dark, but it did have the cream dilution, so maybe it was a sooty buckskin? Idk
I love genes! Especially horses❤
@@vanyaconroy7002 same :D

White horse: pink skin Grey horse: "grey" skin. I guess its like that. Cremello is more like creme.
This is true! Though there are some shades of cremello that look a lot like white horses! From what I’ve heard, white (not cremello) horses only occur as a sort of mutation? I’m not sure about this, but I think maybe it’s a variation of leucisim? Lmk if I’m wrong, just what I’ve heard ^^
In-game I'm pretty sure you're right. In real life it's kinda different tho. I really wish they would've put a description along with the colour genetics cause it's getting really confusing at this point 😂
@@error.101 White don't exist in horses. Are either grey or a dilution like cremello and patterns like tobiano or splash white.
@@DudaMeras yes, yes it does. I looked it up again and it’s due to a rare gene called dominant white
@@error.101 This is a gene that is dilution/pattern. Not a real coat like chestnut, black and grey. DW is alongside with "KIT" genes: roan, tobiano and sabino. These are also in the group of genes for "White Patterns".
How does Abby get such great goals and she’s like “meh, not what I’m looking for” and I’m like stuck on getting bays?????
fr i would so trade her if i could 😂
Fr. I have that issue, but only getting mares. It kills me
@@Lemon_Lime499i only get stallions😩😩😩
same TT@@Lemon_Lime499
I always get bays too, but I’m starting to fade out of that into palomino paints
From what I was able to understand, the genetics of hidden genes in rival stars works as if the horses were "heterozygotes" for those characteristics. The foal will pick 2 colours from the base and hidden genes of the parents to have it's base colour and hidden gene and that it's random.
Dilution works differently, especially because you can have double dilution, but the basis is the same. The base and hidden genes form a pool from which the foal can pick.
The patterns go the same way as the coat colours, so it will pick from the base and hidden genes from the parents at random.
Hope this helps to understand how the breeding works a little bit better 😅😅
My mom had a horse growing up named Lady and she was white. She had bright pink skin and pure white hair. There was no yellow or gray tint to it. She also had blueish purple eyes. My mom thinks she might’ve been albino. Genetics are really cool!!
Dove is my favorite, the name caught me off guard, seeing as I had a chicken named Dove who recently passed, I also love the coat.
Yup, tecnically and genetically there's no white horse, just dilutions and WHITE *PATTERNS*. the "whitest" horses are double cream horses and a gene/pattern called Splash white that can cover all the horse's body. Tobiano, tovero and overo/frame can also cover.
Just stop I have a pure white horse
Grey horses with double cream look completely white with blue eyes (very uncommon, one of the best combiation of genes in my opinion), that foal is probably cremello turning grey, for the new dark one with flaxen mane I thought they were supposed to be liver flaxen (added in the mobile game now) but apparently they have a cream gene... I guess it's probably a very sooty dark palomino ( I saw a sooty palomino turning almost black ) and very dark sooty buckskin for the dark mane one, even if rival stars colors are a little messed up ahaha
I wanna see what the black Mares and White stallions would be!!
Endless battle is absolutely gorgeous WOW😍 that was such a fun video😆 « I will not be bamboozled again » got me 😂
IS WEIRD THAT I LIKE THESE VIDEOS!?
I LOVE THEM SM🩷
Thanks for the heart queen! 💕
Song and Sarcasm look so cool! I haven't seen a flea-bitten grey on Rival Stars before!
I LOVE Voyager so much! The coat is so unique and I just love it
Aswell as song ❤
Hi abi! I love your rival stars videos! You're one of my favorite horse TH-camrs❤️
Yea you are. Right
i loveddddd Empress and Voyager!! They were so adorable 🥰
My favorite foal was Spirt. This might sound weird but I think it would be cool if you created horses that look like characters from a certain movie (ex. Harry Potter) if they were a horse, then breed them. Have a great day!
Hi Abi! I am a new subscriber, I love your videos so much!!! Keep up the great work!
I love this comment ❤️
@@Christian1234-s6g thanks!
12:00 abi: “ I will NOT be bamboozled again!
12:38 also abi 2 seconds later: “ I got bamboozled!😊
Oh my gosh, you help design rival stars (only like my favorite game ever!!) I'm so excited about the new update, but.... you should tell the creators of the game to add western horse events. Like Barrel racing, pole bending, speed dash, jumping figure 8s, ect. If you helped this happen you would literally be my favorite person ever!!! (Or you could make a second game with those things, and I would, same with a lot of my friends, would pay money to download that game). Please and Thank you. And thanks for all you've already done. 😂❤
I love your rival stars vids!
I loved voyager! I really like the crazy patterns lol I ❤ ur vids!
Spirit and Tragedy were super cool! My fav would have to be Endless Battle or Voyager!!
Up next: Use Sunrise as the stallion for all the mares you bred, just to see if the pedigree will give you other coats and colors! 😍
Sarcasm is my favorite, hands down! I love the touch of color on him, he’s gorgeous!! 😫❤
Love your videos! ❤😊
My personal favourite was definitely Spirit,And Name suggestions: Disco,Levi,Capri,Travis,Gunsmoke,Bee,Sporkle Jr.,Dililah and my horses name (Sweety)!!!! Have a horseome day abi!
The second of those two similar foals was definitely a bit browner than the first one. I've been getting super into this game after watching a few of your videos and Steam was *very* confused about it. "We don't know how you'll like this game because you haven't played anything similar." lol. I will say with my breeding I've been getting a lot of fairly standard bays with not much variation from the parents, but I've been keeping it fairly limited since I'm still working through the story and only just reached 10 million so mostly I only breed when I improve my foal stalls or when I get a quest for it.
Spirit reminds me of Baylock, who is Micah Bell's horse from Red Dead Redemption 2. Baylock also uses the same coat as the "Dark Horse" from Red Dead Redemption 1.
The knabstrapper came out of nowhere 😂
Hey! A bit late but some IRL gray horse coat info haha:
I'm not 100% on cremello/white coat dilutions, but a gray horse is a horse born with a regular coat colour (bay/chestnut/black etc. gray can even affect horses with skewbald/piebald patterns). As they age they quickly lose the pigmentation resulting in a gray or "white" coat. A young gray horse will be much darker and more "pigmented" than an older gray (who in a lot of cases look almost completely white and washed out). Depending on the horse's base coat they were born with, it can affect the colouration and pattern of the gray (but the type of gray gene they inherit can also affect the pattern). You can get fleabitten grays, rose grays, dapple grays and iron grays. Its a dominant gene, so if they get the gene from either parent, it will show in the offspring. It is possible to breed a gray and not produce a gray, but if both parents have the gray gene, the foal will always be gray. They almost always have black skin and they also have dark coloured eyes too (matching the skin and eyes of their base coat before the pigmentation was lost). White/cremello horses have pink skin, and usually have blue eyes.
count how many times I said gray for bonus points 😂
I counted 15
you should do a video of all of the horses you just got in this video and breed them with appaloosas or paints or something like that and I love you and your videos so much omg when I saw swem I really wanted it but im on a MacBook so im not all that smart!
Wow 😲 great video!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤wait all your videos great!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
*Sneaks away with the black stallion with white face marking* Sooo pretty!
What makes a dun are the stripes on the legs, dark points on the ears, and the dorsal stripe. If they don't have them, it's just a Buckskin.
I love all of the crazy coats
The one your thought was a bay is actually called a buck skin or dun I have a huge soft spot for them
I know I am going to love this video
I love them all they are soooo cute❤❤
the stripes on the head ( from the ears down to the nose ) are called blazes!
there are 6 different types of blazes! along side 6 different types of stars ( usually a dot or patch on the forehead )
Love the Edinburgh representation! Born and bred and proud :P
I love Edinburgh, I live 30 mins away by train!
@@AbigailPinehaven I currently live in Perthshire now! :P
Grey horses are called "grey" because it's greying... like how your hair turns grey when you get old. (The cells in the hairs lose their ability to produce pigment. True white in animals is just the lack of pigmentation, like going over a drawing with an eraser.) All grey horses are born with a normal base color and then gradually start getting more and more white hairs as they age, until they EVENTUALLY are completely white. The only special thing about their greying is that it happens at a younger age, and happens faster (meaning they actually live long enough for it to reach every hair on their body).
Looking up the progress of how the color changes on young grey horses is actually really interesting. They can have several different roan-looking coat variations during the transition phase.
Cremellos and such have a gene that turns their normal pheomelanin pigment (red/brown pigment) into a much lighter "diluted" shade. They're genetically not white because they still have pigment, it's just a very very light type of pigment.
Hey abgail! I personally think you should do a “ breeding theory “ where basically u breed to same horse as in the stud farm! I did it and i got a half appaloosa and a hidden rabi gene! You can also custom create them if u don’t have them! Just a recommendation I would love to see it if it does cross ur mind!😊
Im on holiday in Dornoch!! I didn’t know u were in Britain!
I love all the horses with patterns. I can’t choose. This is my favorite. They’re also freaking cute but I think my favorite has to be the black twin leopard
Endless battle is prob my fav and there r albino horses but none of the horses u had were and the “white” horses r usually just super light grey (btw I love ur vid keep up the good work 😁) 20:28
Endless battle is my top 1 fav foal ever!
"Tell me which one is your guy's favorite my favorite is endless battle." Same! She's so pretty.
How do u make a different stable because I don’t want to sell or put any in the pasture
I love what you did here!! I am a fan of the splashes and the painted horses as well. I do live voyager as my favorite of all though. Keep up the good work and thanks for your work!!
I have a horse in rival stars named Asteroid too!She is a dark chestnut with a white blaze.
All the horses are beautiful 😊❤❤❤
an interesting breeding challenge could be parent horses have lots of markings, and try to breed a foal with no markings?
breeding cookies and cream horses?? also ik i havent been very active but i still love this content, almost to 3 years!
it’s funny how in the cost information part, at the bottom it says “head markings are not affected by genes & cannot be passed down to foals” when it has happened in some of her past videos & even in the PS4 version, Phar Lap the game I own. 😅🤔
Question what do they mean by breeding or buying a horse performance with medium track performance surface
Song, Spirit, and Sunrise are my favorites! ❤😊
Empress and Endless battle were my favorites.
Omg Abigail i love you so muchhh
I love your video and you are so nice
if you switched the colours on the 3rd foal he'd look just like this horse by my house lol - a fully white horse with a black face he's very strange looking but I also find him adorable :)
Who else loves when Abi uploads? ❤
I love ween she uploads
Meeeeeee!❤
Meee ofc❤
Endless battle is definitely my favorite she reminds me of an Oreo
Hi love ur vids u always make my day. And I hope I made yours. Have a great day abi! Hope ur reading this .
I watch your videos and I really like them and I have a rival Stars I have it too and I love the game I played mostly every single day because I'm obsessed with horses I love horses and I like your accent
Yes you’re correct as someone who rides, horses, gray horses or white horses with normal colored skin are considered gray and actual white horses have pink skin instead of normal colored skin and that makes the more sensitive to sunburn
My favorite is also endless battle!I also like tragedy.
okay so Rich is a buttermilk buckskin. And how I know that this is not a dun is that there will be a stripe down there backs. And Rich doesn't have that. Also my name is lizze I am 10 years old and I live on a farm of horses now we do own Quarter horses but this horse color goes for all breeds of horses. Now people use thoroughbreds to race.
Voyager is SO CUTE
I love your videos ❤
Endless Battle is super pretty. I like her.
I love ur vids❤❤
Hi abi! Love your videos I would love to see more SWEM breeding and Horse Tales: Emerald Valley Ranch Keep on making good videos
White horses have pink muzzles! While cremellos do have pink skin, their fur is usually darker and their skin is a tad bit more on the coral side! There is a such thing as a white horse, that was just a myth.😂
White don't exists, only dilutions and patterns...
I loooooove breeding videos❤
Now I’m tempted to breed my Grey and Black horses😅😂
Literally Im studying animal science rn and I finally understand with perfection the terminology. My professor taught me that the color “bay” has to be colored red with black mane and tail. Sorrel is color red as well but its red mane and tail. You are also right about the “white” looking horse. They are called grey horses however I have no idea why😅 still learning.
I was happy because at prestige 5 i managed to get an albino female and a cream make ☺️
You should totally name *Spirit* Ghostface 😂
You should totally check out the new sims 4 horses!
Love your videos Abi❤ Name suggestions: Bruno, Oliver, Apollo, Star, Cupid, Magic, CJ, Fox, Potter, Ursula, Molly, Mickey, Casper, Ghost, Frost, Ice, Wind, Frosting, MilkyWay, Milk, Milky, Santi, Cal, Sky, Shadow, DarkSky, Lucky, Ember, Lola, Mia, Creme, Cream, IceCream, Vanilla, Max, Maggie, Gizmo, Coconut, Lily! ❤ hope it helps
It looks like Spirit has an eyelash xD
U can see if it’s a black by the legs, if the legs are darker it means it’s a black and with brown ish black its a dark bay and black are like reallyyy dark grey as foal!
I think Boost could possibly be black with a dilution. I got a horse just like him and he was black with a dilution that made him look like a darker bay.
They are so beautiful!
6:25, she is my favourite
SAINT AND SHADOWS FOAL WAS THE CUTEST THING EVER
i play that game all the time it so fun
"its 24 degrees in the UK and my office gets so hot"
GIRL I AM PRETTY SURE WHERE I LIVE IT IS WAY HOTTER LIKE GIRL ITS 109 RIGHT NOW
In regards to Endless Battle, some horses can have a black coat and silver mane IRL c:
Also! About Dun vs Buckskin. Duns have striped on their black socks and a large black dorsal stripe down the back. They also tend to be a deeper yellow-orangey color.
Buckskins are a light yellow with no noticeable trademarks of the coat! Hope this helps ^^
I love endless battle, rich and empress, and voyager their uniqe!
And song
Hi I just wanted to clear up for you that a dun is a hose that has the stripe down its spin and a buckskin is light with out the strip and usually has black legs and black mane and tail
Next video you should do three of your own mares and three of studs that aren't yours
I’ve been playing rival stars for a few days and got my first 2 white mares on the first day f2p 😅😮😊
They are mother and daughter and we’re born a grey colour and their coat is white, with the cream looking teardrop thing and both dappled as well, so not pure white but I’m trying to get there
Duns only have dorsal stripes and or zebra legging stripes, along with hair frosting. If it doesnt have this wild horse gene, it's just a buckskin. (:
I'm pretty sure rich is a bay dun, bc looking at side by side comparisons, buckskin horses look more orange/rusty like.
Spirit kinda looks like Baylock from RDR2
I was wondering if you ride IRL? Love your videos
Looks like a buttermilk buckskin not a dun could be wrong though
It's a buckskin. A dun horse have stripes on the legs and a stripe on their back.
Grey: Horse with grey points on their muzzle and legs (grey skin)
Dominant white: Rare colour found on English thoroughbreds known for pink skin
Cremllo: Chestnut base with 2 crème dilutions usually with blue eyes
try breeding only chestnut coat horses!!!!btw love ur videos!
Boost is actually a black! His base is black with a cream dilution
