I personally think of them as Power Metal. They aren't dark enough to be Death Metal. In my opinion. Yes it has aspects of Death Metal, but not enough in my opinion to be Death Metal. Power Metal can have screams. 🤷♂️ Just my thoughts.

Ive found that even if I didint initially think a song was great, after hearing it a few more times I end up changing my mind... literally every song of theirs.

I love these guys! They have such a distinct sound and yes for the most part their songs are very driven all the way through. This is surprisingly one of the less melodic songs they have written. Their choruses are generally super catchy on vocals and guitar. You should check out Twilight of the Thundergod or Cry of the Blackbirds by them, they portray their normal formula for writing songs really well.
I'm always amazed by how clear Johan's vocals are for how deep it is... he reminds me of Nathan Explosion from Metapocalypse
If you don't already know, Nathan was based in part on Johan. Amon Amarth were Brendon's inspiration for Dethklok.

Unique sound they carry over all their albums and one of the best vocals going.
You can't really go wrong with anything off of the With Oden on Our Side or Twilight of the Thunder God albums. But one of my personal favorites is "the Avenger", live version
Lars Göran Petrov, lead singer of the band Entombed, sings on this track along with Johan Hegg.
So many great albums by this band. Some personal favorites is War of the Gods, Twilight of the Thundergod, Shield Wall and Cry of the Black Birds
I really liked their latest album from last year, Beserker, so I vote for the first song of a video trilogy, Raven's Flight.
Check out The Victorious March by Amon Amarth. There's also other songs like Victory or Death, Cry of the Black Birds, Father of the Wolf, Death in Fire, Twilight of the Thunder God, Live for the Kill, First Kill, At Dawn's First Light, One Thousand Burning Arrows, Thousand Years of Oppression. Really they have a whole lot of songs worth checking out.

Ive seen this guys since the beginning , "cry of the blackbirds " are my favorite . Check out the band Brothers of metal also swedish viking metal .
Saw them in for the first time in Sweden rock festival, kicked ass even better live great stage set up ..Thunder gods is one to check .
I think my all time fave Amon Amarth song is Back on Northern Shores.

The Berserker at Stamford Bridge is another great song from them.

Amon Amarth kicks your ass then kicks it again...Any song you do by them is good. But for some good old head banging you need to check out Pursuit Of Vikings.

"Gimmicky" is one way to describe it, but they've been singing about Norse myth a long time before the MCU made it a "thing" ;) And yes, their music is largely relentless.
My personal favorite is " Where silent god's stand guard" just the makeup of the song alone is amazing
When I try to describe this to people, I say it's like Viking Dethklok. AKA the best thing ever.
Any song from versus the world are just awesome, like "death in fire", "across the rainbow bridge", the entire album, or any song from with oden on our side. Also, like I highly suggest once sent from the golden hall album, specially "victorious march". I love that song. It's pure metal!

While yes it's they are a melodic swedish death metal band, it is much, much more accurate to think of them as a viking folk metal band. Their music is literally, thematically tales of the norse religion. Recommended songs..."Twilight of the Thunder God", "Doom over Dead Men", the supremely heavy "Without Fear", the Way of Vikings, "Runes to My Memory". Amon Amarth also has an awesome cover of System of a Downs, "Aerials"
You should really check out their song “Twilight Of The Thunder God” 🤩 I’m Swedish so I feel pretty close to them, we call this type of music “Viking-Metal”

Great to see your journey on metal music going up north! Finland, Sweden and Norway have the worlds best metal bands (Well at least based on my experience and personal opinion). Try Dimmu Borgir from Norway - Amaranthe from Sweden - and Amorphis from Finland! And as a bonus: Children of Bodom from Finland!

these guys are like kataklysm to me. my first listen i fell in love with them. check out kataklysm sometime you would like it
AA is a super underrated band... they as tight as my wife during live performances.. and they deserves more love and supports tho...Anyway here's my tip for new AA fans... if you like some raw heavy and pretty dark sounds, you should listen to their old stuff and for clean and 'bright' riff, new albums are the ones.. sorry for bad English..

I heard them all. I listened to it the day it came out. I just wanted to hear it and didn't have the time to record. Most of my thoughts about it seem to be in the minority. I loved it, but I like the last album better. Out of the tracks I didn't do, bending the arc to fear was my favorite. To me it was the 2nd best song behind amongst the shadows and the stones. I liked all of the other singles that I reacted to better than the ones that I didn't.

Yeah I'll try to get to it sometime. I didn't watch it, but I downloaded the whole show the other week. Gojira blocks some these live shows for reactors, so it's tough. I actually have blocked video of where dragons dwell expiring today hopefully, so that should be up soon.

The bands old vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt is no longer with the band so I don't recommend any of the new stuff.
