Hi Ron, the lighting really shows off the detail. Looking forward to seeing it finished. Happy New Year. Hope it is a good one, well it would be with the new Honda arriving and hopefully a Yamato too... 🤞😀
Hi Marc and Maureen, I guess it's 2025 there now for you folks. Hope you have a good one! Thanks for watching! Happy new year to you too! See you tomorrow! 👍
Happy New Year Ron, I learned a lot about lighting and use of red versus normal lighting. Glad Missy came by after all. You have a great day in Winnipeg. Herb
Ron maybe the reason the clear side is opposite on the conning tower is because of the gages on the wall. It would look funny only seeing the backside of the gages if this side was the clear side. Make sure you set your clock so you are awake for midnight. Then just before midnight raise your left leg so you can start the New Years on the right foot! 🥳 Until next year.😉
Hi Ron, Second comment here about the RED LED'S.... Red LED's emit RED light because of the chemicals used in the diode, the red plastic is NOT what makes the light red... dipping white LEDS will work 'short term' BUT the Tamiya clear red paint will fade very very quickly when the LEDS get warm and then you will just see white light...'Ask me how I know!................................. If you want RED light then gat some 3mm red LED's..... with all the time and money you have spent on the model it's a small price to pay.... and would be fun.. Also the voltage (FV- Forward Voltage) that a RED LED runs at is different to white ones...Normally 1.8v and not the 3.2v of white...so you would need to use a resistor if using a common rail voltage supply.
@roncalverley yep, the u boat s were pretty much Grey, with a black deck area. A few had some crazy white and black camouflage scheme, but none that I know of had any green
Happy New Year Mr. Ron, I have a question/comment on the red leds your using. I just googled subs using red light and they did/do! Red is used so sailors could see gauges and use the periscope at night. It has to do with night vision and eye strain. Have you thought about adding a red led to each compartment. Then use a two way switch to flip between red and clear legs. Just thought it would look awsome and your the kinda awsome guy to do it. Semper Fi, Preston
PS Just for record I know it's always dark in the sub! But they have to be ready when they go to battle stations. That includes using the periscope and the possibility of surfacing at night! That's why the light change to red when the ship goes to battle stations. Also I have first hand knowledge sleeping on many navy ships during my time in the Marines.
Hi Ron,only a humble hint. The color instructions of trumpeter are not correct. The main failure: Tamiya XF14 matches in no way the Gunze 338 and is absolutely wrong. XF14 is a hemp color, used for japanes Aircraft like the Zero. The color of the Deck of the conning tower should also be a darker grey, not Gunze 308 or Tamiya 19. The main Deck of the U-Boats were wooden and were painted dark and looked like tar. But you should paint the boat, as you like it best. Greetings, and a happy new year, Hermann
Hi Herman, Re: *"Tamiya XF14 matches in no way the Gunze 338 and is absolutely wrong."* I fully agree with you. Will talk about that in episode 2220 today! Happy New Year 👍
Hi Ron, Happy New Year to you.... Some help on the paints... Militarymodellerpaul is correct about the Tamiya LP-11 BUT and its a big BUT...This is Lacquer paint and is VERY hard to brush paint... You can do it but need a retarder and / or a thinner which has a retarder... For brush painting which we know you like to do for small parts then there are far better paints you can get locally from Hobby Sense who I have checked stock them... You could use Vallejo Model colour (needs thinning) or Model Air (pre thinned), or Kimera paints or AK Interactive 3rd Gen paints... all of these have silvers, and blacks etc which are great for brush painting small parts... Or you could try the new Paint Marker Pens which are a great new innovation (well to modelling anyways) and Hobby Sense seem to stock the AK Interactive ones, the DSPIAE ones etc... These are fab to use for small parts. Consistent colour, easy to use, great coverage in one / two coats and best of all no clean up... Might be worth you taking a trip when the weather improves and speaking to the shop staff and seeing what they have... Best wishes Alex.
Happy New Year, thanks for all the 2024 shows, looking forward to seeing what life gets in the way for 2025. 🎉

Too green? 😟
