Absolutely...Negative PR killed this movie.. It takes the 3rd best place in the franchise for me of course never the level of T2 or the original. But solid re-watchable movie indeed...
I'm one of those, watched it couple times and still do occasionally. What it got right was showing the progression of the Terminators from the crude T-600 to the T-800/T-850 Terminators. McG definitely nailed it with Salvation.
The Terminator films gets treated the same way Halo gets treated by its fans. I'm not sure which video points it out exactly, but people have talked about it a lot.
Hilarious how people hated it when it came out, and now all of a sudden they love it. I’m one of the few that appreciated this movie all along. Really loved that gritty warzone-type setting the movie had.
I think we all just miss dark and gritty films so many movies coming out now are all colorful and the characters are cracking jokes all the time I just miss having dark and gritty films that took themselves seriously

Almost everyone when Terminator Salvation came out: This movie sucks. It doesn't capture the original. No laser weapons. Nothing is good! Everyone after the Genisys Reboot and following films: Perhaps I treated you too harshly.
And it makes perfect sense as to why they don’t have laser weapons. They chose to make the movie take place early in the war. So early that they still had reconnaissance nuclear submarines and other working tech/facilities. They simply didn’t have laser weapons yet because they get them from defeated T-800 squadrons sent in armies to hunt the humans down. That hadn’t happened yet because the T-800 was brand new at the time the movie takes place.
This is actually my favourite film in the entire series even over t1 and t2 simply for the straight up man vs machine war tone which the other films lacked!! Also the score is exactly how a terminator theme should be.
They should make a last film. And it taking place over the course of the war itself. Take 30 years, and fit it into a 3-4 hour movie, showcasing step by step how the resistance was able to take up arms and finally smash skynet. Edit: some narration would be a huge bonus, like Martin Scorseses movies.
Play Terminator Resistance my man, not a movie, but currently it's the best thing avaliable for what you seek. It's set in the war you mention. Playing it you can clearly feel it's made by fans of T1 + T2! With the soundtrack + the visuals going, you constantly expect Kyle Reese to show up next to you in the war-torn city infested by terminators. For terminator fans it's an incredibly immersive game!

Such an underrated Terminator sequel. To me this is the one that is good and actually fun. Compared to the other ones. Besides T1 and T2 being obviously being the amazing ones. After T2 we got meh decent ok. But this one. I actually liked. Even though it's not the best. It was a fun watch. 5 and 6 are so awful. I was disappointed we didn't get a sequel to Salvation. It was gonna be a trilogy but it got canceled. How unfortunate. 😔

The movies that came after where shit, this wasn't. And honestly it is the only one where we see John Connor rise through the ranks of the Resistance and become the savior of the remaining timeline, considering that a good chunk of the Resistance Command was killed before they were born in the first Terminator and Terminator 3.
It's sorta like that with revenge of the sith Back then people hated that movie but looking at the shit we got afterwards people recognized that perhaps revenge of the sith wasn't too bad
It wasn't the future war from the first two films. This movie took place when the war was still in its infancy, that's where many misunderstood this movie.
Cold metal bangs and drums against persistent emotional brass and strings. Terminator in a nutshell. I love how even strings and brass some kind of go different ways. One is desperate while the other is hopeful (if you listen closely).

I was always disappointed that Salvation never got a sequel. I wanted the Salvation trilogy to feed into the original trilogy like an infinite loop, it would have been awesome. Alas, it was not meant to be.
Wow these comments are actually eye opening, I jad no idea some people didn't like it when it first came out, I loved it from the moment I first watched it. We even had a presentation on our favorite movie the year I first watched it (2012) and I did my presentation on this movie, I think it also helped that I was a huge fan of Sam Worthington after watching the clash of the titans movie.
This was my first Terminator movie and it is easily my favorite as I really didn’t care so much for the time travel plot after T2 this one actually did something different and it was awesome.
I love industrial sounding music I loved this movie (it was the one that introduced me to the series) And just it was indeed a great look into the war we saw only glimpses of
T2 fan here. T1 even more. But every now and then I am returning to this movie for some reason. And every time I like it a little bit more. It gives T1+T2 and T1 future scenes + T2 trailer combo feeling.

God I loved Salvation. The way the machines sound. The grittiness. The shear brutality of man v machine warfare on full display for everyone to see.
