This craft project may be relevant for adult doll collectors who are looking to build a backdrop / display for their doll collection or are interested in miniature interior design. It is a 1:6 scale house & suitable for dolls that are about 30 cm (11 inch) tall.

Cardboard boxes are actually very strong and they make beautiful furniture

Just go heavy with a good quality wood glue, mat board and reinforced paper tape and you can make practically anything. Good luck!
Reinforce by running each piece of card board in different directions. Use a tight bond wood glue and use wood putty or spackling mixed with wood glue to create a board like outer layer texture. You can leave it rough or sanded smooth then paint it. Then seal it. I generally use 4 to 6 layers of card board and try not to make bore than 18 inch width without a center support on larger projects. Built my daughter's nursery dresser, chest of drawers and night stands from cardboard using that method. I built her a school desk with storage, desk chair and a vanity and bench as she got older. She is 32 now all of the furniture has been used by her and her 3 kids and is in use today. It has survived teenagers sitting on it and kids climbing on it. It's been painted half dozen times. Only thing I replaced was backing board on all pieces. I only used 3 layers of card board on that. Next to last replacement for backing board was 20 years ago. I used real wood. The wood got popped off and broken and chipped. The real wood lasted 2 years. I replaced it with original cardboard with glue and wood putty mix cover, paint and varnish. It's still in use today.

Hi there :) thanks for all of the advice! Im amazed how long your cardboard furniture lasted. Especially since it was properly used by many people. That’s really good to know. I would have never thought to use wood glue but will definitely try that. I also remembered that I once made a cardboard dollhouse that I also used as a dresser a very long time ago. Kind of two in one and that lasted for a while too but I don’t recall what happened to it in the end 😅

@@oliviaL2320 if I ever get brave enough lol. The trick is time. Time for the wood glue and layers of cardboard become adhered by weighting it or clamping it down and letting it cure to harden into a flat surface. The use of spackle and wood glue creates another hardening element. Then sanding smooth and adding paint and sealer creates a tighter bond as well as provides some waterproofing.

@@fun_and_craft trick is the pressure points. Like I said every 18 inches or less use a vertical support. Like on the sides of a dresser it needs to literally be a full support wall/walls depending on horizontal length. I remember that dresser/house too that you made it was what made me subscribe.
The wood glue was strongest I could think. Then mixing it with spackle or wood putty makes it like a particle wood or jipsom hardner.

I (sort of) made a desk from cardboard. Basically the top, but I had made drawers before. There are channels that show you how, like Mr. DIY. For furniture, you need to at least double (my desktop is 4x thick). I was doing this learning skills for woodwork. It is good to learn on a cheaper medium first☺️

I Make furniture from cardboard quite a bit, but i always double it

When I was a kid we use to make are own barbie houses and furniture with cardboard boxes.ours were nowhere close to what your building. You really have a talent for this. I love you recycle materials for this.very creative!

In design school our final project was to make a human size chair out of cardboard which had to hold up to the professor sitting in it for a few minutes so in done right cardboard can make great furniture

Where do you store all these models? You must have a very large to house all these dollhouses.
I actually live in a flat share 😄 so I don’t have a lot of storage space. Some of the dollhouses are in my bedroom, some at my mums house and some I took apart to reuse the material. Thanks for watching 🥰

I usually use hot glue, glue sticks and white crafting glue.

I made my headboard from cardboard.
That’s really cool! Did you cover it with fabric or something similar or is the cardboard visible? My bed doesn’t have a headboard so maybe that would be a good place to start making cardboard furniture 😊
