  • Quick video to try testing the Victron Cerbo communication with the Signature Solar EG4-LL Version 2 Lithium Battery.
    I pinned out a cable how I was told and try to establish communication between the two units - Test # 1.

    Thanks for all this info! I have a Victron CerboGX, Quattro 5000 and 2 EG4-LL V1 12V models connected to 3000w solar in my current coach. Hopefully getting a Prevost XL2 in a few days and need to start migrating it all to the new coach. Never tried connecting the EG4 to CerboGX as didn't see much need. Once I had an issue with precharge when my inverter shut off, ended up using a spare lead acid then turning on the EG4's. I keep a portable battery pack in my rig now so if it happens again I can use that. Also is sweet because it has 120V outlets on it so we can use when camping for stuff.

      Sounds like a great set up - especially 3000w of solar! Good luck on the purchase and migration. These prevosts are complicated- I lucked out and have a simple one!

      Thanks! Hopefully will get some more details back so I can make this work. Would love to make a final video showing how it all works - almost there!

    I was able to get my EG4-LL v2 48v/100 batteries connected to my Cerbo-GX. It will show the EG4 batteries in the VRM when communication is working correctly. I purchased the cable from Signature Solar but they didn't provide any instructions so I had to call them. Pins 4/5 connect to the CAN port on the EG4 master battery and Pins 7/8 connect to the BMS-CAN port on the Cerbo-GX. I have not had any issue with the precharge problem you describe. Perhaps that is solved with all batteries v2 or with firmware update to v1.

      Great news! Thanks for sharing. It sounds like I just need to buy the cable. Was it hard to make the adjustments in the cerbo? I finally figured out my precharge issues (I just turn each one on a split second apart and it works fine).

    did you ever get the connections to work?? I have the 12v version for my 5th wheel and was wondering if this is something I could work out.

      @CampPrevost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not yet - I did buy the actual cable and hope to try it the coming months. We are still fluctuating between 20-50 degrees with heavy winds - hoping late March early April to bring her back home for a bit.

      @@CampPrevost :-) How about now... getting ready to add my 2nd 12v. I figured out thru heartache that a Softstart (Micro-Air) was needed with just one battery. Now I'm looking to work on the communication from the batteries to the Cerbo.

      Thinking about bringing home in 2 weeks. Still dipping down to below freezing and tons of weird storms…. Let me know if you figure it out before me! Lol

    Did you figure it out? I can't find any updates. It seems something isn't right. Which inverters do you have? Did you ever have all three batteries connected and powered when you turned on your inverters?

    • @CampPrevost
      @CampPrevost  ปีที่แล้ว

      I found if I turn on one, then immediately turn on another battery - it will run. Then reset the first. I am hoping to get the bus out next week - we were 80 yesterday and now possible snow on Monday. Had two terrible storms a few weeks earlier. Just left it in storage during all this crap. Will post new updates soon

    I am using the victron touch display with these 3 batteries. The only issue I have is say I am charging at 900 watts with no loads. My battery icon will show charging at 300 watts and then a DC load of 600 watts. It is showing the 2 non master batteries under the DC icon and not the lower left battery side. Have you come access this and any recommendation?
    Note the cerbo GX does show I have 3 modules installed so they are communicating.

    • @CampPrevost
      @CampPrevost  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you have (3) of the version 2 batteries? Are they connected together and then routed to the cerbo? And can you see the BMS on your screen? I could see my (1) version 2 on the screen and used that for the SOC but changed it back to the shunt because it represented 1/3 of the total in the SOC

    • @9-5Adventures
      @9-5Adventures 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CampPrevost I have 3 of the v2 version (your top master battery). I asked signature solar about it but the guy that was emailing me couldn’t comprehend the issue.

    • @CampPrevost
      @CampPrevost  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@9-5Adventures. Do you have the (3) selected to create the SOC on the cerbo? Or still using the shunt for SOC? Not sure if that would make a difference- curious more than anything. Pending your answer - Are all the loads on the load side of the shunt? Just the battery on the battery side?

    • @9-5Adventures
      @9-5Adventures 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CampPrevost I am not using a shunt at all. When I called them originally they said since the battery can direct communicate with the cerbo GX no shunt is needed. Other then the issue I described everything is working. I figured it was a setting I was missing on the batteries but your saying you need the victron shunt to have them all display under the battery icon (effectively making them 1 battery instead of 3).
      I see all the info such as total battery capacity and everything on the cerbo GX but then looking at the displays screen (the one with all the colorful boxes) it splits the batteries up

    • @CampPrevost
      @CampPrevost  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@9-5Adventures I always wanted to get that far, but only 1 of my batteries would communicate with it. Did you select your BMS as the SOC? I forget where that is. I don’t think you need the shunt - just finding the right setting. Your in uncharted territory!

    What are you excited about, you paid all this money for batteries that can't hardly start your Victron Inverters! Every battery I have connected to my Victron Inverters has started them no problem. I have the same Victron setup you do and have used Battleborn batteries, SOK batteries, even plain old lead acid batteries with no problems.

    • @CampPrevost
      @CampPrevost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Saying lead acid batteries start (2) 3000w Victron inverters tied together shows me you don’t have any idea. There is a dead short when connecting them because of the caps used. With lead acid you need to precharge them with resistors unless you carelessly don’t care about the arc/spark generated and possible damage to the inverters and battery. These batteries will automatically pre-charge 1 inverter without issue, only when both are hooked together does the auto precharge fall short. Simply resetting the BMS will do both. Battle-born even sells a precharge unit to use with their batteries as they don’t precharge the caps.

    • @bowbilly9080
      @bowbilly9080 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CampPrevost I have no precharge just a battery disconnect switch and have been living offgrid for 20 years and still have my old outback inverter that I started with working just fine in the barn.Victrons in the RV and cabin so I think I have more of an idea about living with batteries and inverters than you will ever have.

    • @CampPrevost
      @CampPrevost  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bowbilly9080 what kind of switch are you using? I tried wiring my original (6) 8D’s @ 24v to my original (4) outback VFX3524M and it blew an arc so large I was fortunate I didn’t get hurt. That’s how / why I found precharging the capacitors first to provide a controlled initial hookup. I just use a soldering iron (using the wires from the 120v side), using a little resistor got really hot. Figure there are probably switches that can take the initial surge but wasn’t sure if the components in the inverters could as well.
