Another reference: the movie: The Thing.
In the movie the thing, there is a guy named Mac with the other crew mates. However, when they’re exploring the abandoned ship, there is actually someone in the crew trying to intimidate them. One of them is an impostor as so called “The Thing”. The impostor doesn’t shoot people or stab them, instead they rip their head off as blood comes out. In the movie, there was either 2 or 3 impostors among them. And the thing came out in 1982 and the remake in 2011, which actually came first before Among Us. If they think its somebody, they either shoot them or just kill them. And if there is more people dying in that movie, that means the “thing” is still there. And the remaining people were two people left (Mac and Childs). They also did a blood test to prove who is fake and who is real.

They forgot the "The Thing" references. Its a movie, and one of the death animations, it turns into a monster and kills you with there tounge. And generally the game is based off of the movie "the thing" gameplay wise. Plus the Polus map is also referenced from the "The Thing* movie scenery.
