Had the honor to see Mr. Tyrone Davis perform around 1980 in Memphis, Tenn. at the old Mid-South Coliseum, he drove the women crazy. Millie Jackson also performed. What a show that I will never forget.
I can still visualize the album jacket. It had a blue tint and Tyrone is looking over one of his shoulders back at an apartment complex. These guys out of the sixties were simply fantastic as were the musicians behind them...Love em all!
What a Great time we grew up in , with music like this from Tyrone Davis & all the other Great bands & singers from the 60's & 70's . I feel that music will never reach the Quality of those days .This song reminds you as Musegal111 says, count your blessings , If you have a Wonderful Wife like I have,Cherish Her make her feel special like when you first met. I just got thru a Life Threatening situation & my wife was there to help me recover she is the greatest thing to me . Worship your Wife
This song, that guitar lick, those horns , and T's vocals....just perfect! My oh my that song just moves me eveytime. RIP to this great me man blessing us with such fine-tune left behind
R.I.P. TD. He was one of the best male blues singers to have graced this earth with his wonderful talent. I has the pleasure of seeing him in person, but the rain cancelled the show. I grew up on this song & a many more of his & others. Blues will live on forever because they are what's relly going on in a persons' life.
The million selling single off an impressive debut and LEGENDARY soul album of the same name, 1969. Even Isaac Hayes mentions this song AND “my man” Tyrone Davis in his electrifying rendition of “By the time I get to Phoenix” on his own debut LP, “Hot Buttered Soul.” THAT’S how good this song is :)
This song was an R&B song that was so great in 1968 it replaced Marvin Gay's hit "Heard It Through the Grapevine" at the top of the R&B charts and then it crossed over to the Pop charts peaking at Number 5. Great up beat party song! Love it!
@ Moir Edwards, sho u right! I don't know what state this concert was in, but I did see TD perform in this exact suit at the Cottonclub Casino in my home state of Mississippi. I also have a CD with ALL his greatest hits. Be blessed and stay safe.
Fantastic. I first got to know this tune from a Roy Buchanan record (Livestock), which is is just amazing. But for all the power of that performance it has nothing over the original. It's great to find this performance. Either way, I think this is one of the best tunes ever.
Tyrone Davis, very much under rated. I could not believe when he passed years ago that it didnt even make the news , i found out about it like a year later... One of my all time favorites.
i agree i am thankful for my aunties ,and grandmother playing all these songs i love all the blues and thangs.... but this is not the original version .....
Tyrone looks handsome, even with old age. His music, his smoothness -- I can only imagine how many women were crazy about him. Love this song! ♥♥♥ Marashor ♥♥♥♥
I may sound like a grumpy old man saying this, but back in Tyrone Davis' day, you had to be able to play and sing at a very high level, or you wouldn't last five minutes in front of an audience. Musicians knew their axes, and the audiences had standards - high standards. Not only is Tyrone's vocal timeless, the backing band is tight and funky, and right in the pocket, on this number. This remake is nicely done. Whoever wrote the charts for this tune deserves an award.
Oh this is Awesome! Without knowing it, I've been a fan for a long, long time. So many of my soul compilations, including the Brunswick Top 25 singles comp have Tyrone on them. A few months ago, I heard his version of Clarence Carter's "Slip Away," and I've been hooked ever since. He sounds great here. So sad he's gone.
i grew up listening to Tyrone,my mom is with the Jesus now,but she would play his music all the time.now these oldies meant something, may he rest in peace,i still listen to Tyrone,Bobby ,Johnny.
