      Lady asked to me do a commission of her daughter for her birthday on Instagram. But didn’t want to tell me when her birthday was, told me she’d give me $100 after I gave her my rates. I honestly began looking through the inserts to see it was real. And it was real. It was when she asked me to give her my bank info to give me an electronic check. PayPal and Zelle isn’t save, after all.

      It's not personal and you shouldn't take it like this! These scammers target small accounts specifically which they consider easy targets, and they use automatic messages sent by bots to target these small account and send their messages. They have likely never actually seen your art themselves with their own eyes and it's not a reflection of you, your art or your hard work. It's a morally bankrupt automated large-scale attack.

    These things have recently started to pop up as of late. It’s no longer the “Dm to promote” spam anymore. But strangers who I have no idea of, usually with empty profiles or profiles that literally have no sense of being interested in any artistic concept would ask me for commissions.
    I do wish to open art commissions. But it’s gotten to the point where I ignore those stranger dms, and only take commissions from people who I know or have interacted for a while beforehand.

    Thanks for your video. I was suspicious about a random message on my art account (then i don't do commission but i was maybe she liked what i do) so i asked her 30euros for a portrait because i don't consider myself as a professional artist and she offered me 300euros and i was wtfffff. Anybody who would be logic wouldn't spend 300euros for a portrait from a unprofessional artist. So yeah i see it more clearly now

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Professional or no, you should charge more than 30 euros for a portrait. It's going to take you hours to do and drawing is a rare skill that not everyone has. When considering the hours put into it, even a high school kid working at a fast food joint would earn more than that. Why do you think you deserve less just because you're not professional yet? It's still work. The red flag here was the person offering you more than you charged. While 300 euros is NOT too much for a portrait, I don't know a single persona alive who would offer more money that what the person charges just because...

My Family been wanting me to get back into Selling my Art and one of them wants me to try out doing NFT for Opensea, but I been kinda timid cause last Commission I did for a Client they ended up not paying for it. So yeah bad experience. I've tried doing Art on Deviantart though things was slow for me there so idk if I should try making NFT.

      Honestly, the NFT space is filled with scammers and thieves :/ It's inherently risky. Even those who are there to buy aren't really interested in art, but are looking to resell the NFTs for profit. If you are interested in NFTs that's one thing, but if you're not then don't be pressured to get in that space. There are many safer and more fun ways to make money as an artist, like freelance work, commissions, selling art products or even making TH-cam videos about your art.

      I'm not sure what the polygon network is, but the NFT space is FILLED with scams and art theft. If you still want to go forward, proceed VERY carefully. Don't share any personal info, don't send anyone any money, don't click any links sent to you by anyone and instead, go to the website by googling the website yourself. Even so, considering the low demand for NFTs, there's a high chance this is a scam so be prepared.

      @ArtBusinesswithNess  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is probably a scam. They sent a screenshot but you never received the money, or presumably an email from Paypal warning you about the arrival of the payment. Screenshots can be faked! I've never had a client send me "transaction info" before for a Paypal payment, because it's instant so it's not needed. My guess is, this transaction info was camouflage so you wouldn't question why you actually didn't receive the payment in your account.

    I've gotten these in my inbox. I hate it because then reading them uses spoons I could use for working on projects, maintaining my home, or interacting with someone with a legitimate commission job.
    The hearing impaired one, I sometimes have a problem with both memory and sound processing, I hate it. Where I live we also have spotty internet service so it makes using the audio on zoom calls... iffy. My son managed his zoom classes but his teachers also got used to repeating themselves or having him "robot out" when trying to talk. So.. those are some reasons I prefer business talk in text unless I am actually in person... then they need to be comfortable a recorder and note taking. If someone wants me to schedule a zoom call I always let them know about my crappy satellite internet (guess the company) in case the audio quality is poor, the call drops, or it turns out to be a day I'm needing things repeated an aggravating amount of times. I don't bring it up though unless I suspect someone wants a (despised) video or audio call. I also try to avoid audio calls because I've had my fair share of "I never said that," or "that's not what I said," later on.

They said they just wanted sketches so I quoted a price but they said they wanted to pay $100 dollars for each which is far more than my commission prices.

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When a 3rd party wants to buy your art to make NFTs, it's ALWAYS a scam. They will tell you that you need to send them a "gas fee" to mint the NFT, then they'll send you all the money. Of course, they pocket your gas fee and disappear. The only safe way to get into NFTs is to mint them yourself. You don't actually need a 3rd party person to do that. BUT be aware that NFTs is a dying market, so making NFTs is a very risky business move that will almost certainly have no return.

    I am curious as to how some of these work. I never reply to anyone complimenting my art because I think they are scammers by default. The nfts are obvious and the ones that have 5 posts with random photos. But I get confused when it's seemingly legit instagram accounts. If it weren't because some of these say the exact same things they would look legit.
    I got a DM from an Instagram account that looked like a professional artist saying: "Hello I love your works They are beautiful unique and exquisite Are they up for sales?" Which I knew was a scam, but I wonder if they hacked the account because it is very legit. Then I got a dm from another person with the exact same words so I confirmed it was a scam.
    I always know they are scams because I am a beginner and I know my artwork is not good enough to buy, nor I want to sell it because I am just learning. But I can see how some of these can fool people.

    • @ArtBusinesswithNess
      @ArtBusinesswithNess  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just complimenting your art isn't necessarily a scam, and I hop you won't grow to be suspicious of every compliment! You'll get lots of legit compliments in your comments, but these people won't follow it up with shady NFT offers or suspicious vague wording like "your work is exquisite". One day if you feel like selling your works, set it up through your website or an Etsy shop so that any potential buyers have to do the transaction on your own terms :)
