thyssenKrupp has a building in my town where they send newly built subs to test them in Norway. Guess the reason is we got deeper water here then Germany. I see those sub is going in and out of the fjord all the time. But a funny thing when Scooter was about to have his concert in my town a Sub went by and 10 min later he show up on the stage. So they said oh shit he came by u-boat 😂
It's a shame that TKMS doesn't offer U-212 CD to Indonesia but offers U-214 next generation, the result is that TKMS lost the market in Indonesia because Indonesia chose Scorpene evolved
Canada should consider some variant of these 212CD fuel cell subs for our eventual replacement of the Victoria class subs. Get Canada in on this one now as partners, to get them in a timely manner, bring not just our need for subs, but also industrial partnerships with their fuel cell makers and ours.
I wonder if they can incorporate a VLS system since the Tomahawk missile no longer is made to launch through the torpedo tubes. Kongsberg does not have a missile with that strike range
Apparently the Type 218SG has the option for installing a vertical launch tube for missiles, though no boats have been equipped with it so far. But there are already boats like the Virginia-class which have vertical launch tubes for Tomahawks and such.
Submarines Dakar-classe, for the Israeli NAVY, are being built at the other hall. 83-85 meters and displace ~ 3500 tons submerged. Vertical Launching Systems, etc, etc... Minimum price won't appear lower than $1.1 billion.
Not to be weird, but it has got to be an awkward conversation to have as a Frenchman touring a shipyard that produced two generations of U-boats for both world wars. Still, goes to show how much we have all grown closer since 1945. Merci Xavier.
I visited kiel ,and went to that amazing Nazi submarine UBoat in laboe ,stuning ,beautiful ...and every day i discover new things to visit in Germany ... Ich liebe deutschland ❤🇩🇪
Imagine that the Gotland class from Sweden was already so quiet, with its diesel-electric engines, that it circled a US Los Angeles class submarine without being detected. The 212A class is far quieter than even that, and has a much longer submersion time despite being a conventional (non-nuclear) submarine. Germany once had four of these submarines but due to lack of funding none of these fours subs were recently functional for combat. Hopefully with the threat of the Russians/Putin the German government understands that funding these incredible machines has to become a very high priority.
..sorry, bullshit! Germany has not four but six 212A in service and all are operationel (this story: all subs not combat ready was due to accidents and is years ago).....
German submarines have taken photos of the aircraft carrier several times and Sweden hasn't even thought about it. The last thing I remember was the U32, after that the US admiral (aircraft carrier) lost his job - because they didn't even know that the U32 was there. They are small hunters and with a good team they are 100% deadly
@@io9883 no we don't. The german subs are made for the baltic and the only enemy we face there is the Russian Baltic fleet which isn't that big and we're not the only ones with subs there
Well... if this a marketting episode, they timed it rather poorly. This afternoon it became known that they will not be building the the 4 new subs for the Royal Netherlands Navy.
Wow, Germany has a long history of building high quality submarines! I wonder if there might come a time when they consider building nuclear powered subs!?
Germany could build nuclear subs but it dind not make sense. The special task for the German U-Boot-fleet ist to combat Russias fleet in the Baltic and defending the gateways to the Northern See and Atlantic. German U-Boots have a unique capability to fully maneuver in stealth mode in very shallow waters (down to under 20m) as the Baltic See is very shallow. Almost all nuclear subs could not even dive in most parts of the Baltic.....
@@WhatWeDoChannel...this boats could operate in the mediteranien or the Atlantic from Germany as well (as they did in the last years) but it is the special task given from NATO to Germany to conduct submarine warfare in the Baltic as the German Navy was so far the only one in the NATO able to do this - newly joined by Sweden with its four subs also specialised in this....
Video is ass-backwards. Should start at 5:27 showcasing new technology, Not with BORING 5 minute marketing pitch. After struggling to keep watching, I was just ready to click away when subs appeared.

News update !!! . The Dutch cabinet wants to buy four submarines from the French Naval Group. The cabinet will officially decide this in the Council of Ministers on Friday, sources say to the political editorial staff of RTL Nieuws Nederland. This submarine is far too small for the needs of the Royal Dutch Navy. This German submarine seems to be made more for the North and Baltic Seas. The Dutch Navy often sails to their second Dutch naval base in the Caribbean.
