- German shipbuilder thyssenKrupp Marine Systems hosted Naval News for a tour of their brand new submarine production facility in Kiel.
=====================
Philipp Schön, Head of Sales, Submarines, at TKMS, answered our questions about why the need for this new submarine facility, production capabilities, any challenges in terms of workforce and supply chain.
We also asked the representative about the Walrus-class replacement program in the Netherlands for which the German company is competing with the Type 212 CD E submarine design.

F22 of Submarine
thyssenKrupp has a building in my town where they send newly built subs to test them in Norway. Guess the reason is we got deeper water here then Germany. I see those sub is going in and out of the fjord all the time. But a funny thing when Scooter was about to have his concert in my town a Sub went by and 10 min later he show up on the stage. So they said oh shit he came by u-boat 😂
Indian navy officials are in Germany right now to evaluate these submarines for future order.
Wow, Germany has a long history of building high quality submarines! I wonder if there might come a time when they consider building nuclear powered subs!?
Well... if this a marketting episode, they timed it rather poorly. This afternoon it became known that they will not be building the the 4 new subs for the Royal Netherlands Navy.
Canada should buy from these guys or Japan
if its not a drone they are wasting their time
Greece yes Turkey no
Germany, Sweden and Japan in Asia manufacture the best diesel electric submarines in the world
I wonder if they can incorporate a VLS system since the Tomahawk missile no longer is made to launch through the torpedo tubes. Kongsberg does not have a missile with that strike range
Very cool, that you checked them out Xavier!
Very cool video, glad I stumbled across this!!!
nice, pls do more with tk MS
Morning 🌞🌞🌞 from i in Jamaica
Very cool
impressive
It's a shame that TKMS doesn't offer U-212 CD to Indonesia but offers U-214 next generation, the result is that TKMS lost the market in Indonesia because Indonesia chose Scorpene evolved
Canada should consider some variant of these 212CD fuel cell subs for our eventual replacement of the Victoria class subs. Get Canada in on this one now as partners, to get them in a timely manner, bring not just our need for subs, but also industrial partnerships with their fuel cell makers and ours.
Not to be weird, but it has got to be an awkward conversation to have as a Frenchman touring a shipyard that produced two generations of U-boats for both world wars. Still, goes to show how much we have all grown closer since 1945. Merci Xavier.
