Just being pedantic, I know, but a re-routed line is hardly lost
    Kurrajong line - that's lost
    Rogan's Hill line - that's lost
    Camelia line, that's lost
Pipita line - that's lost (well, mostly)
Lots of tram lines - lost
Maldon Dumbarton line - well, not so much lost as never was
Still evidence of each of these to be found if you know where to look
But thanks for showing us the Helensburgh tunnels - it's very interesting and you do great work 😁
There's also the tunnels near Picton from one of several times when the line there was diverted and bits and pieces of zig-zag & tunnels around Lapstone & Clarence to, well, Zig Zag station

I had always wanted to visit the Helensburgh tunnel, but after seeing this video, I no longer have that ambition, it looks very unpleasant. Thank you for showing it as it is …off the bucket list now 😅

What exactly has changed in your impression of what should’ve been?

    • @cee2615

@@haskenvonbern5404 I didn’t expect the tunnel to be wet, dark, scary, uneven … I started to feel claustrophobic just watching the video. Crazy but I had a feeling of being trapped in there in the dark and not being able to find my way out. I was definitely surprised at my reaction to the video. I have seen beautiful photos of the water cascading down at the entrance and inside being light and colourful with graffiti …. I now suspect Photoshop for those photos.

    • @haskenvonbern5404

@@cee2615the photos of it are definitely photoshopped, however, the video makes it seem to be a lot harsher than it actually is, I think it’s because of the brightness of the torch. I went there only about 3 weeks ago, if you turn off your torch and allow your eyes to adjust, the presence of the glow worms resulted in this very pleasant bluish green glow that went a fair distance into the tunnel. It also helps it so it doesn’t feel you’re walking into pitch black. It was a great experience! You should still give it a chance, but do bring a friend along for it

7:34 that sign has the same style as the old railway line that closed in the 1980s which went from Adamstown to Belmont, the old train line has now been converted into a pathway for bikes and pedestrians to walk on, the path goes 15km from Adamstown all the way down to Belmont, which is the whole line, there are still some tracks next to the path along some parts of the way, the path is called the fern Leigh track

Good video, worth the watch. I disagree with it's description though. It's not a "lost railway" if it's new and improved, and upgraded alignment is still very much in use as originally intended.

Have you done, or would you consider doing, a trip to Knapsack Bridge in Glenbrook, west of Penrith. Bit of rail heritage dating from the late 1800's. It's a pretty cool looking bridge.

I worked as a Guard at Helensburgh. And it is pronounced Helensburra.

    • @daveg2104
      @daveg2104 ปีที่แล้ว +2

According to Historic Helensburgh, it's pronounced as "berg". It's from an old Saxon word for castle/walled town. The German word is burg, which they pronounce more like "boork". BTW, I have family that live there, and they pronounce it as "berg", so I'll go with what they say.
