Recently picked up a manual tanto apocalyptic. It’s bit me 🩸 twice closing it, with how fast it drops. It makes me nervous too. Overall I like it, I just need to learn how to tune the detent. Would like to pick up an auto drop point in apocalyptic when one becomes available.
7075 is 🔥 Its actually tougher than type 2 Ti!! Wish all aluminum knives were 7075 l carry back pocket and 6061 just doesn't hold up well... But 7075 definitely does!! Still haven't grabbed a Socom but will eventually. 👊🏼
Ive had great luck with counterfeit OTF microtech but I just got this socom elite counterfeit and its a piece of crap. the lock doesnt hold with even slight pressure on the spine. im buying a real one right now lol
The manual tanto with ti ni blade has been in my pocket for nearly 24 years..never leave home without it..there's a video on TH-cam called Microtech Socom elite torture test part 1 and 2..it won't disappoint..G.O.A.T..💪🏻🇺🇸
I just got an auto and I enjoy it but I do notice it has some side to side play compared to the manual socom elite I have. Not sure if that's normal? I did notice the weight difference too and had that aha moment. Thanks for your video!
@edged_mindset you are correct, the vast majority are 6061. However, here are two emails I received from Microtech when I asked about the socom elite, and the natural/silver gray socom elites; "Thank you for reaching out to us. This is a commonly misunderstood topic in knife forums, and I’ll be glad to provide some insight. There was a very brief period, where they used 7075 on a very small batch of knives, basically a run. The models included were not disclosed as we use 6061 standardly, and the ones who received 7075 was a very small amount which I believe was simply a sourcing issue, rather than an intentional upgrade. The bulk of everything has been and is still the 6061 though. It was not any of our recent Socom Elites that were affected, and what they did do a few years ago was only a single batch run of knives. If an authorized dealer is stating it is 7075, it may be a mistake if it is a current production knife." Here is the response I received when asking about the natural/silver gray elites; "The Socom Elite knives with natural/clear aluminum handles (gray/silver color) feature a hard-coated anodized finish without dye. They are made of 7075 series aluminum." Makes me really want a natural one!
Everything you need and nothing you don't-some of the best folders ever designed!
Perfectly said...🔥👊🏻
Nice comparison! Just picked up a manual dlc tanto version, they seem to be readily available at the moment finally!

Man it’s crazy how soft 6061 is. I’ve barely dropped one of my Protech knives and it looks like I threw it full force on the concrete.
i got a counterfeit automatic one coming straight from chynuh! lets gooooooooo

Could be one of the strongest folders ever designed, such a solid blade.

I have some side to side on my auto as well, but not on my auto stitch
Tanto or drop point?
I have a drop point apoc manual but kind of wish I would have gotten a black tanto.
Tanto = better looks
DP = better user
I always buy them and then I always sell them
Great video. If you had to choose one?
I will always side with auto 😁
It is 7075
6061 I believe

Serrations make knives look cheap.
That is absolutely an opinion that you have there 😁
