  • Today was a beautiful day on the heals of a storm coming thru Texas but that did not affect work at all on Tesla's Gigafactory 5! A bit of rain and wind at the end of the video ended it but overall progress looks amazing.

Excellent video Jeff. The Austin area sight is a great choice; It has a high speed, divided road on one side and 2 High Voltage electrical lines on the other. It also looks like it used to be a placer mine for gravel. The land has already been raped, torn to bits, moved into piles and left for dead. Good for Texas! I'm a strong environmentalist and I think this is a great site for an electric car factory. Hopefully, Tesla will leave the land better than they found it.

My first hope was they would restore the land to its original state. Now I’m not so sure. Maybe they could engineer lakes and ponds to encourage more biodiversity. It could also mitigate drainage/flooding issues. Maybe add a few walking trails for the locals. Seems most of the work for that has already been done. : )

Used Google Earth to get a relation of size of this site to Shanghai, China site. Shanghai is 5,537 ft. long from the road on the north side to the canal on the south. This is the whole area is what both model 3 and Y assembly buildings use. The area is 2,069 ft. West to East.
For the Austin site, measuring by what is being leveled now runs 5,161 North to South and 5,039 East to West. The big factor here is what is being prepped now is only a third of the whole property. There is more than enough room for 3 assembly line buildings and more here at the Austin site.

Notice there’s no there there. People who live in this area in Austin have to drive about 20 miles round trip to get groceries. The starting wages $35k qualifies employees for “affordable housing” (max. $41k to qualify). And it is my prediction that many of these jobs will be fully automated within 5 years. Musk is another billionaire exploiting the working class so he can have more money for his vanity projects, and we in Austin gave him the tax breaks to do so. We don’t have a jobs problem in Austin. We have a skills problem...and a population growth problem. Thank god we didn’t land Amazon’s second headquarters!
