Love to see these comparison videos for size, quality and style references. The new one comes in handy for display without taking a lot of space, even though having a bigger interior would be stellar. Price doesn't really help, but that has become standard these days
Thanks for showing them side by side - that really sums it up. Nothing beats the D2C diagon alley set. The smaller sets only work if you have limited space or simply only want one or two sets IMO. It seems Lego was more interested in redoing DA sets verses expanding the previous DA with more buildings as they figured out they would make more $$. Sad but I will simply make my own Mocs now.
I’m getting the smaller set for multiple reasons, but I am also definitely planning on buying the full diagon alley and gringotts in the future, however for now as I’m on a smaller budget, that will do and I’m quite excited to get it. Hopefully Lego will release the final few buildings of that scale as well so that we can have a miniture diagon alley play set rather than just the display ones we have now
Tons of new wand molds in the new Olivanders even though there was already an updated wand design BUT WEVE HAD THE SAME SINGLE LIGHTSABER MOLD SINCE 1999
What I said last year, I maintain this year: the new smaller sets are NOT WORTH IT. For basically the same price you're getting a far smaller, less detailed, less accurate set. It's worse for display, worse for accuracy and even worse for play. Sure, paying 400€ upfront is harder than paying it in smaller increments of 90€/100€. The only appealing thing in this smaller set is Madam Malkin's. If you're like me and buy all Harry Potter sets anyway, then you can do what I did and NOT build the smaller versions but rather use the pieces to augment the UCS version with the missing floors (the UCS Diagon Alley buildings are all one floor shorter than the film versions).
This exactly. If the builds were better quality rather than feeling insultingly downscaled they would be incredibly good sets for $100 but the corner cutting goes too far.
Bonus is you can get smaller sets at Target at sale if you don't mind waiting a bit. I got WWW shop for 60$ when it was on sale, I don't think we will ever see any discounts on big set.
the new one is honestly my favourite set of the wave, i wasn't able to afford the big diagon alley and personally the weasley's shop one they did last year didn't interest me too much, but i like this one a lot
not to mention i have a lot of nostalgia for madam malkins from the lego harry potter years 1-4 video game, that was where you could buy new characters in that game
Tbh, I’m going to stick with the new Lego Harry Potter Diagon Alley System. This is because I don’t have a shelf that could fit the larger version. The larger version is harder to display on a shelf and the smaller one is easier to display on a shelf. The smaller diagon alley sets could improve, however they’re also not bad in person and has good details.
I actually like the very first (2011?) Olivander's set better than this new small one despite the fact that the new one is admittedly more accurate. That being said, I definitely like aspects of this new smaller one, especially the fact that we got new wand molds, which astounds me since Star Wars still refuses to give us unique lightsaber hilts, but Harry Potter has changed the wand molds multiple times, which I think is incredible! 😊
I ahve the Diagon Alley set, but I'm tempted to get the smaller set for the additional mini-figs, and I wonder if I can use the pieces from the duplicate building to flesh out and make bigger the new building so it could be more in line with the Diagon Alley sized buildings
I was a late buyer of Diagon Alley. It was only when I saw the first pictures of Gringotts that I decided I had to create the full display with both sets. So I bought Diagon first then Gringotts on day one. I have Ikea Ivar units and you cannot even have just Diagon Alley on one shelf in a line. I currently have two buildings on one shelf and two on another. It's a difficult one to display unless you live in a mansion with acres of space.
Are you going to put all the Forbidden Forest parts together? Heard it fits quite well together: 76432 and 76434 (because you can connect them), with the 30677 Polybag. Not that I am into these sets, but it seems interesting (and I actually like the magical blueish colour theme)
Honestly because I’m an idiot I’ll prob still do both systems but this is the best review I’ve seen so far for for these … the bigger system is def the way to go
I got the 76439 set from my husband and I wanted to see how I could expend my set. This video helped alot. The only other set that can be paired with 76439 seems to be 76422, for now (in my understanding) Do you think they will make more shops so you can build daigon alley like the 75978 set?
If we ever get the Leaky Cauldron and a remake of Borgin and Burke's, I would rather have them as D2C modular sets than play-scale sets. However, since the 2020 Diagon Alley will retire at some point, they might make those who places as play-scale sets to fit with that newer play-scale Diagon Alley system.
My gut feeling tells me if they ever made one it would be in the playset size. I hope it could be next years set, but it also feels wrong to only have it as a small one and not the large
Another great review. And yet still not fully helping me choose which one to go with, haha. Will probably end up trying to get the play scale on sale/clearance, and continue to save up for (or sell some of mybold sets) to get the D2C.
I love the UCS Diagon Alley, but I am limited for space. The smaller kits look decent enough to display and cost a fraction of the larger kits. I have both of the smaler kits awating to be built. Just my thoughts :)
@@TSLstudio2010 And by "here" you mean Germany, right? 'cause I got them for those prices but I had to buy from Amazon Germany 'cause everywhere else the prices were still the same as LEGO, ie. overpriced. It paid off (even though shipping was also absurdly high) but it's basically the only country in Europe where you can find good deals on LEGO sets.
I prefer the 2020 set with gringotts. I've built 5 additional MOC buildings from Scarletpatronus on rebrickable so street my diagon alley set is more complete. However, I do plan on buying this smaller scale mainly for parts/minifigs to add onto my larger scale buildings.
A great comparison video Holly your a fun harry potter fan to watch with lego and i will admit the sliding ladder is something that should have been made in the bigger one
I still need to get my hands on Gringotts but other than that I have both systems. I have two different display rooms so I have one in each. I really enjoy both versions
Ive been debating building some MOCs for the big diagon alley. What are the odds you think lego ever makes another expansion set? I don't think it's likely none of the other ones seem as iconic as the 4 we got in 2020
I can't see it happening as much as I'd love one, simply cause they don't have the in store space to stock all three plus the other D2C's they do. I also think it would result in the full collection being a little too much
Definitely I am going to buy this new version!! I don’t like the ucs version Can you do a comparison video about the ucs, diorama and the new hogwarts castle please?
PLEASE REPLY TO THIS🥺 Love your videos….I always listen to them while building for some reason😂 I watched your moc building video thing and now I’ve already made like 4😂 Actually now 5

Could be a hot take but I love the universal saber hilt
We did get curved hilts but some unique hilts is a small thing that could add a lot of interest, play or imagination.
I’m sure we’ll get an updated mold for lightsabers soon. I mean we JUST finally got a new mold for Luke’s hair.
Love these comparison videos
Why thank you Chaden

I think it could be so fun to redo the interiors and upgrade it with the playsets builds/stickers and pieces. Especially for WWW

$90 is outrageous for those two little buildings
This years pricing across the board especially with the summer sets has been pushing it
@@HollyOnFilm Luckily, lots of sales!
Here the Great Hall is already for €139.99 (150 dollar).
