To make sure you have the right amount of fluid, there is a plug up on the side of the tranny that looks just like the drain plug,it’s right next to the drivers side axle. With it idiling and warm, take that plug out,and some fluid should come out. If there’s a lot let some drain out,if it just barely comes out your good to go. If nothing comes out,add fluid until it does.
You are correct almost. First you need to get trans to a certain degree, 180- 200 f. Also , need fo go thru each gear, pausing 3 seconds in each then let idle 3 mins
Your transmission is underfilled. Need to do a hot temp check as stated by the people above. Fluid needs to be changed when the temp of the fluid is below 140 deg F otherwise you don't get most of it out. There is a valve mechanism in there that restricts oil drain above this temperature.
There is an over flow, or bleeder bolt on the side of the transmission, on the drivers side, behind the wheel. All you have to do is take off the wheel, and the bolt is to the right of the axle shaft. Remove that bolt, and add some transmission fluid, when it starts to drain out of this hole, stop adding fluid and re-secure the bolt. This way you won't be adding too much or too little transmission fluid.
I have a 2014 Chevy Malibu LTZ and I want to make the change but I am still not sure of the appropriate amount, some say 5, 5.5, 6 quarts I do not know what is the ideal amount.
Be sure to check your owners manual for the exact amount as transmissions vary, also call a chevy dealership and your local parts store to confirm, hope this helps and thank you for watching my video! Would you mind giving a thumbs up and a subscribe? 🙂
Hey there, should be the same procedure and when it comes to replacing the filter you may have to dig deeper in to get that. I did not change my filter but will likely be changing it when I do a full fluid change!

I’m wanting to change my transmission fluid on my 2013 Malibu but I have a question before I do. My car currently has 66,000 miles will changing the fluid cause my transmission to slip? Thank u
For it not to happen put maybe 1/2 quart of lucas fluid for transmission I do that to all my cars and they shift nice can't even fill when they shift gears
I know this is 10 months old, but if its already having issues, do NOT change the fluid, it will only make things worse. Save up and get the transmission repaired or replaced. Only change the fluid at service intervals and when no issues exist.
No slipping and trans is running like normal it was operating fine before the change but at 100,000 miles it is part of the service manual to change fluid, when I get the time before winter I will most likely be doing a full flush 🙂
@@TheMattiverse i don't recommend flushing with it that dark i would just drain you only drain about 20 to 30 percent from the total fluid. Going from dark to clean might cause slipping or worse
Ehh not too worried about slipping, old fluids are meant to be changed and you can always thicken the viscosity to help reduce subtle slippage, but I haven't had any slippage whatsoever 👍🙂
6.3 quarts The 2013 Chevy Malibu has a transmission fluid capacity of 6.3 quarts of fluid1. Chevrolet recommends using synthetic Dexron VI fluid in the vehicle whenever you need to change it1. If you need to do a full transmission flush, then you will need ten total quarts of fluid since the first half fill will need to be drained again1. The total system capacity of the transmission is 9.5 quarts23. The service fill is 4-6 L, and the dry fill is 8 L4.
Don't ever do a full transmission flush. Those particle break off you flush out can actually be preventing slippage. If you remove that grit, you can actually doing more harm than good. That said a drain and fill is more than enough.

Hey there! Thanks for watching and to be honest it is likely the fill plug. Technically you are supposed to torque (tighten) the plug to specifications. BUT the drain plugs usually have a rubber gasket that can dry rot and go bad over time that would be my first look and to find out exactly where the leak is coming from! 👍🙂
Hello friend, do not you think that six and a half quarts is too much, because in the manual they show from 4.2-6.3 quarts and in other videos they recommend 5.5 quarts.
What I did was check how much trans fluid came out and replaced the same amount with new fluid, but to be 100% sure I would call or visit auto zone, o'reilly's, etc and inform them of your make model and year and see what the amount is for a trans fill

@@RedFrostproductions That is only if they had the proper amount of fluid in the car to begin with when they changed it. I completely leveled my 2013 malibu left and righ. Take out the inspection plug on the side of the Trans below the car. Fill until fluid comes out. Stop filling and when fluid stops coming out of plug you're filled to the right amount. Put plug back in and that's it. Also when draining fluid make sure your car is running so it will pump out all the fluid and running when you fill it so the pump will circulate the fluid fully and then when you see the fluid come out of the inspection plug it is full. If you don't run the engine doing this you will underfill it.
Big thing to really look at closely because even mechanics who change your oil do not do it properly all the time. Important thing is to level car left and right as close as possible with a bubble level. if that is not done, you will get an incorrect amount of fluid. Also, you need to run thorough all the gears before completely draining fluid with car on. This will help cycle the dirty oil out. Drain fluid out afterwards then add fluid again. Again run though all gears after filling. Use side hole to tell you when to stop filling. You will see clean red fluid exiting the hole when at full level. You will need to add more fluid into the transmission because when you go through the gears it will cause the level to drop. So slightly overfill then drain excess out of the level fill. You will see a mixture of dirty and clean fluid. Repeat the above process 1 or 2 times to completely flush the transmission and clear the dirty fluid. It is important to maintain this transmission as you will see shifting becoming poor at 35 to 50mph when it is dirty or overfilled. Because of this, it is important to level the car using jack stands on both sides of the car and use wheel chucks behind rear car tires to keep it from moving while on the jack stands. Use the jack on the passenger side to do fine level adjustments to make bubble level center. Some say to not change the oil but, in this model, at minimum if it was ever changed, you will want to know if they did it properly to begin with. It is very probable that it was not changed properly in the past. How many mechanics you will actually measure the amount of fluid that exit your transmission when they use a large oil container that they wheel all around the shop? So you must always verify car level when filling, tire removed and checking fluid is right at proper level with check plug removed. That is only if they had the proper amount of fluid in the car to begin with when they changed it that you could get away with this method. I completely leveled my 2013 malibu left and right. I had almost 1.5 quarts of extra fluid drain out of the fluid check plug. This means that air was getting into the fluid and was causing it to hunt for gears and shift poorly / erratically. The solenoids in a transmission will not work properly when too much fluid is present in the transmission. Protect your car and don't expect the mechanic to do it properly. They don't care about your car like you do. Do it yourself but properly.

Is there a filter to be changed as well?
Yes there is but the I believe the service Interval to change the filter is longer than it is to change and add new fluid

Yes. Napa #ATP-15564
It's senseless to change the fluid, and leave a dirty filter in the trans! And nobody seems to change the filter!

It's supposed to be changed every 30,000 miles.
Most vehicles 60k but the transmissions in these Malibu's will make fluid dark fast so, every 30k is suggested
Theres, a black rubber piece on the transmission what is that? "& a blot under? Do we, unscrew that bolt to see if transmission oil leaks from there??
