The 747 has always been my favorite airplane, ever since I was a young boy. It was the 747 that sparked my interest in aviation when I was so young and has been an inspiration for my whole life so far, including to the present day in which I'm a flight test engineer for Boeing. This was such a great video and thanks so much for sharing it with us.
Flew on a KLM 747-400 back in 2015 from Schipol to Nairobi. One of the smoothest flights I’ve ever experienced. Have since lost the picture I took of that day which bugs the life out of me, but I’ll be flying on a -8 asap
Being born in Sweden with a Kenyan family (Kenyan mother, Swedish father), I flew that exact route with the 747-400 alot as a child. Every summer we used to take a 737 from Stockholm at 0630 followed by the trip’s highlight: the 747-400. I’ve also flown the Thai 744 and LH 748 in the meanwhile, but my most memorable experience was on one of those flights, when the turbulence was so severe that people were screaming like mad! I can’t imagine any of those passengers would have wanted an A321LR or similar. After landing, my mum let everyone else go off to calm the nerves a bit, but when we left the aircraft only the crew bus was there. So we got to go in the same bus as the crew, and I distinctly remember asking the first officer’s reply being “I didn’t think we’d make it”. Now everyone else was laughing, but this scared me shitless as a 12 year old haha! Also remember flying in Business Class for the first time, on the upper 747 deck with my father on the return night flight. And now I’m about to (purposefully) recreate those flights in less than a month - but this time it’s gonna be on a 777. Man I’ve got some good memories with that plane.
I told my husband we need to go visit Korea (where he lived for a few years). I would plan a trip to Hawaii for a few days (to break up the long flight) then take one of their remaining KoreanAir 747's from HNL to SEOUL. I was lucky to watch it take off from HNL back in November. Such a beautiful Livery! So I guess I have less than 8 years to plan that trip! :) Funny enough, when he first few to and from Korea back in 2002, he flew on a 747 both ways from Seattle. Lucky him!

I've flown on the 47 many many times. Both the passenger version and the freighter. I flew for Southern Air Transport, though I never flew the 47. But she is a true gentle giant.
I've flown all over the world, many thousands of air miles, over the last half century, on nearly every type of airliner from the DC-3 to the 787. My all-time favorite is the 747. I've crossed the Atlantic and Pacific, flown Asia to Europe, and across the US on these birds. There's just something about the graceful lines, the way they roll off and onto the runway, and the stability they have in flight that makes them a joy to travel on. Nothing else even comes close.
pretty cool. My job took me overseas a few times . In Alaska I flew in all types of fixed and rotary wing aircraft as a passenger doing my job. I never flew in a DC3 but flew in a C47 that towed gliders on DDay for the RCAF. One job was working for the FAA on a communications contract all over the state at radar sites, airports and at Anchorage and Seattle Center. We would charter Citations and Conquest quite a bit there. I worked at P&WA a few years in the late 1970s assembling JT8s and JT9s. Before that I was an avionics tech on P3 Orions. I even had an7ECA Champ I bought and learned to fly 40 years ago. I haven’t been up in the air since 2014 now.
My father was a career. Marine, as a child, we flew all over the world regularly on the 747. 1993 was the last flew on a 747. Flying in the 70s and 80s had a grander feel. It was the highlight of any trip or move we were making. I will miss flying and seeing this great plane as much moving forward. Over 50 years of service is remarkable. It will be missed. Thank you for your great videos.
My memories of this are relatively hazy, but I actually flew on an Air China 747-400 from Beijing Capital to Vancouver back in June of 2012. Sat on the lower deck like any economy passenger. Can't remember if I sat with my family on the window seat or the middle rows. I do hope to fly on the passenger 747s again a few more times before they're all gone in the future!
Honestly, as a 747 fan I was expecting to get depressed by this video about "the last 747," but quite the opposite is true: it really made my day! I'm 55 yo, and I find it extremely comforting to know that I'll certainly leave this world before the Queen does! In other words, as I close my eyes for good, she may be flying overhead, as if marking the passing of one of her many friends and admirers. Thanks for this wonderful video!
I can remember seeing my first 747, it was in the very early '70's. I was attending the University of Central Florida (Florida Technological University at the time) and a few friends and I took a trip to Tampa International Airport just to see this new aircraft. We were on the 3rd floor of the AP looking straight into the cockpit. It was many years later before I actually got to fly in one. In the mid-2000's we flew in them several times going to Taiwan and China. On the last trip, I got to fly first class. Normally I had to fly coach, but a friend I was traveling with had a slew of expiring frequent flier miles.
Truly! a big mistake for Boeing to be doing especially since it lost its luster to the likes of Airbus, The 747 is not only the best machine in the skies but the most beautiful as well. I will miss her greatly.
The 747 have outlasted and outsold all of her competitors in history. In fact all the DC-10, L-1011, MD-11, A340, and A380 in the world combined had sold less than the 747. She's truly the Queen of the Skies.
I took two 747s on a one way trip to Tokyo, with a stopover in Taipei. The seats were comfy enough to drift off sitting up. In Taipei, I saw my aircraft being pulled up to the gate. These birds are a wonder to behold and be transported by.
I really wish I could've been there to see the last 747. It's the plane that had gotten me back into aviation and caused me to switch my major back in my early college days. If it weren't for it, I wouldn't be where I'm at right now. The 747 is my favorite plane and it still continues to inspire me. I just hope I can fly on her one day.
BOAC 747 from MIA to Shannon Ireland..late 60's. I was a pre-teen, but will never forget. Glad to hear it will eventually out live me. Totally fabulous machine. Hope the folks in 2070's will see this and appreciate history.
Great video. My first trip to London when I was 16 was a TWA 747. I was astonished by the size inside. The massive width of the cabin, it's high ceilings, the time it took to walk it's length. A few years (and many many 747 flights later) I became a Flight Attendant for TWA out of JFK and got to work countless trips to Europe, the Middle East, and Hawaii on the 747. I remember loving walking the tarmac under the massive wings and ridiculously tall vertical stabilizer; not to mention several photo ops standing in the engine nacelles! I already miss the 747 - an extraordinary machine on so many levels.
I remember flying the 747 the summer before my freshman year of high school. It was my first time traveling by myself and I was headed to Israel for a summer camp. This was the summer of 2001 so right before 9/11 but the second intifada had just begun in Israel so there were a lot of fears around traveling in the area. It was a very peculiar flight; there were maybe 100 passengers total on the plane so I had an entire row of 4 seats to myself to stretch out, plenty of room for comfort on the 12-14 hour flight. It was also before the days of on-demand entertainment but the flight did have movies playing and headsets were available from the crew. I ended up watching Along Came a Spider 3 times back to back. Quite memorable as my last time flying on a 747.
Hail the Jumbo Jet - the One and Only Boeing 747. And, we wouldn't forget to look up ... in the sky ... to the Jumbo 🙂🙂. Nice to know that they are still going to be around for decades.
My dad worked for UAL and we got to take a special tour of the first 747 to come to SFO. It was cool. We also flew to Hawaii many times (SA). Always First Class. I even remember when there was a lounge in the hump. Many, many fond memories of The Queen of the Skies.
Im beyond glad i got to fly on a delta 747-400 to hawaii back in 2014 before their retirement. Definitely a core memory of mine. Itll be sad to see them slowly disappear.
I've flown this beauty a long time ago from Frankfurt to Chicago and yes, it was Lufthansa. It was love at first sight 😀I've flown many other planes ever since, but this one is THE ONE. I have a large diecast model of it with me now. Hope to hop onto a flight in this plane before it is history.
I flew the SAS 747 "Huge Viking" in 1972 when I was just shy of 14. I was accompanying my father, an airline executive with Eastern Airlines on the way to a computer networking conference in Copenhagen, so we flew in first class. I flew a lot in those days but this was by far the BEST flight experience of my entire life! I recall the slow, long, powerful stride down the runway on takeoff at 10pm from JFK, the amazing cuisine they served and fantastic service we received all night long, treat after treat. I was even allowed to drink a little sherry in order to get to sleep. Which I couldn't, because I was so excited. I spent most of the night alone in the upper deck lounge, looking out at the night, the dawn and then the icebergs below. It was totally worth the jetlag I experienced the next day. I only wish our return to America had been aboard the "Huge Viking" but it was onboard a DC-8, a huge letdown, alas. I have such fond memories of that flight and really regret I never got to fly another 747.
@@cobyexplanes On Scandinavian they did not have passenger seats and if I recall properly neither did anybody else. Keep in mind that the original 747's upper deck was not huge. My memory of the upper lounge is not as clear but I believe was configured with sofa-type seating facing inwards with small tables in between them. I believe there was also a bar up there too. Not an open bar with access to teenaged me unfortunately. :)
My first, and so far only, pax 747 flight was on a UA -100 back in the ‘80s on a flight to Hawaii. It was probably the best flight I’ve ever taken. I all sorts of 747 things around the house including actual cockpit flight operations manuals and even the Pan Am View-master reels from the early ‘70s. For some reason I haven’t flown this aircraft on MSFS despite owning that program since day one. I do have plenty of time working with the 747 in airline operations, including one day having to work as a cabin cleaner when our cleaning contractor went on strike. I kept cleaning cabin after cabin after cabin and never found the back of that airplane. Plenty of time was also spent on the ramp, both in pax and freight operations. I have the distinction of banging up Singapore’s then fairly new 9V-SFN twice in the same night (neither incident technically my fault, but I was at the in-plane controls for both), both incidents fixed up with a smattering of speed tape. Working that aircraft was a dream in comparison to the other common freighters we dealt with at the time, the DC-10 and MD-11. Better loading options because of the cargo door behind the wing (even when not using the nose door), easier CG management, full cargo handling system, nose gear that was vertical and an APU that didn’t torture the crew by blasting down onto the ramp. I am currently working with Lufthansa in the world of air freight, albeit at a smaller airport that doesn’t have any freighter operations. I’m hoping to use this connection to get a flight to Germany on a 747 someday, allowing me to say that I’ve flown on the earliest and latest 747 variants. Even though I may have direct lights from my city I’ll happily take any rerouting necessary to fly on the Queen one more time.

Flew a few 747-400s in the last decade, I was glad for the opportunity.
I've never had the opportunity to fly on the 747 but the L-1011 has a place in my heart just from flying it on DL as a kid so much throughout the US. Hopefully I will get to fly the 747 someday but the next time I fly a widebody it'll be a 787 in a few months.
Hey Coby. If my memory serves me correctly, Sam Chui was on a Qantas long distance test flight of an A350 with Qantas CEO Alan Joyce. Sam asked Alan what his favorite aircraft is. Alan responded, "The 747" to which Sam faced the camera grinning ear to ear with 2 👍👍! There will never be another Queen of the Skies. The A380 was just a real big plane, but it didn't dethrone the 747!
My favorite airplane is the Boeing 747! When the 747-8 came out with its massive new engines it became my favorite airplane of all time! It’s sad to see the Queen of the Skies last plane leave the facility, but I’m glad it will be flying on. I can’t wait to fly on a jumbo jet (747) soon. Congratulations Boeing for building the best and iconic airplane in the world! Godspeed Boeing, Godspeed.
Got to fly on Atlas a couple times…took the ole Rotator flight from BWI to Incirlik AB in Turkey, and again back home. Oh, the memories. That was the only plane I was ever comfortable on…this gargantuan behemoth taking a young, scared me to an unknown part of the world with hundreds of strangers. 16 months later I popped as many prescription pills I dared and boarded the same plane. We took off, and I mean it when I was at total peace-the plane could’ve been shot down then and there-we finally left that miserable place. 😅😑
my last 747 flight was on a 747-138. It was Aer Lingus EI-ASJ, the Saint Colm Cille in August 1989. I never thought that would be the last time. I miss the Colm Cille and the Saint Patrick, EI-ASI.
I worked for four years, in the early seventies, as a cabin attendant on the first B747's ... on the 200 and the SP versions. Great planes, and the SP was an exceptional aircraft. The power blew me away, and the great whining sounds during take-off still ring in my ears... I also worked on the B707, 727 and 737, and the first Airbus, the A300. The Boeing hegemony would be broken by this upstart in the airline manufacturing business
The flight from London to Seattle,was,my immigration flight BA49, 747-400 with a special tail livery as British flew them in the 90s…. Flew later first class and that was epic! The 747 was the only plane in the many many I’ve flown in, showing me what true thrust is! Her take speed,is unmatched in my experience!
I was a passenger on a 747 once. I'm now glad that I had that experience since I have become obsessed with commercial flight. I missed my opportunity with the Concorde and I am truly annoyed I did not realize I could have done it. I appreciate the work horse the 747 has become! Truly a great freighter! The last time I flew on a 747 was in August of 2017, when I flew with Lufthansa for a stopover in Frankfurt to begin my study abroad semester in Prague! Loved it. Seeing the curvature of the aircraft sitting at the front of economy really took my breath away!
I remember flying the 747-400ER in 2015 from Sydney to Las Angeles, smooth ride and a smooth landing, sad to see the 400ER retired so early because of covid (they were only 10 years old) but the cargo versions of the -400F, -400ERF and the -8F will fly for a long time and hopefully will have 30+ years flying with atlas air, UPS and more!
I have flown all over the world. Always wanted to fly on the Queen of the skies. But never had. Flown on DC 8, DC 9, DC 10, 717, 727, 737, 757 ,767, 777, 787, A320, A 330, A340. A350. Missed out somewhere but also flown on Tri star . Never got on concorde either

The last time I flew on a 747 was from IAD/Washington Dulles-Frankfurt on Lufthansa about 10 years ago. The people traveling with me didn't like it that much, but I did, maybe because I liked the big plane experience and because LH gives you pretty good food. Would love to fly again!
Only Time I flew a 747 was a UA 747-4 from SFO to NRT, right before she was retired. I specifically booked IAH-SFO-NRT to take a ride on her. It was great. I hope I get a chance to fly the 747-8 in the future, LH flies them to Argentina which is nearby...(I'm from Uruguay)
In 2002, I flew on a QANTAS 747-400 from LAX to SYD. For reasons I don't remember, we had to board the plane from the tarmac. Just taking the bus out and seeing this massive aircraft sitting there was so cool. On this flight I managed to take a nap and wake up about 7hrs in. At this point, it was the longest flight I'd ever been on, and it was only half way. I redid this trip in 2016 but on a 787, which was a much better experience for someone who suffers from dry eyes. Also in 2002, I had the chance to fly an EVA Air 747 Combi from EWR-SEA-Taipei. It was strange, as it felt like a giant 747 in the front, with the back half missing, but replaced by a giant wall, not the normal taper. I think I also flew on a QANTAS 747-300, a few British Airways, and a Swiss Air 747 in the mid-90's - early 2000's.
I flew on 747s operated by TWA, Alitalia, China Airlines, British Airways, and PanAm. I remember walking up the stairs to a TWA flight and seeing the big Pratt&Whitney eagle logo that said “Dependable Engines”. My thought was that’s exactly what I want. The big bird never let me down.
My dad, working for United Airlines, took me and my brother to Seattle and Boeing Field in 1968 where I sat in the left-hand pilots seat of the prototype 747. We later watched from the side of the runway as a Pan Am 747 landed in front of us. Once parked, we went onboard and I remember the plastic coverings on the seats, and that new airplane smell! Wish I had an iPhone back then to record the experience.
My one and only flight on a 74 was February 10, 1980. LA to Honolulu on Braniff. A week from tomorrow will be the 43rd anniversary of that flight. I'll never forget how big that plane was inside! My assigned seat was seat A in front of the wings. Too bad I didn't have a cell phone back then.
My first flight on a 747 was in 1971. Have been on many, many since then and have loved every one! Have been in upper deck a few times, but I prefer seats on the lower deck near the nose. I have been on many flights a "little" further back in the plane, too. It is a wonderful plane. Sorry to see it go. Sounds like it will be flying long after I am gone, though.
I flew on 747s in the 90s and early 00's. I remember having to watch a TV that flipped down from the ceiling, and I remember being envious of people that got to sit upstairs.
I have no country’s lines recognition by the invisible line from the Globalization at all. We should treated each one is different groups of the families; when you fly the panes that you can’t separate the lands and peoples. Seeking you all working so enjoying to each others made me feels trusting you all doing without me suggest; that’s the professional to be born on earth’s. it didn’t means your education; all is hands touching to knows how much you really understand the planes as your new born baby’s born so happily with muscles. Hi Coby, I disagree with you on the Cargo Aircraft being less affected by Jet Fuel prices. Most cargo is not flying at the high express revenue as it does with the likes of Fedex or UPS. Cargo will quicky shift to more efficient twin-engine aircraft because of this. However is my believe that the 747F will continue to operate for many more years to come, as a niche aircraft to deal with special and oversized Cargo, similar to the AN225 has been doing until recently. Its good to have the Queen of the Skies around for many more years, she is a beauty!!!!
Very nice review… I first flew on a Northwest 747 in 1972 from Miami to Minneapolis… delightful! It was huge and so comfortable. Next 2 times were in 1977 on British Airways from New York JFK to London Heathrow… then back on British Airways from New Dehli to London Heathrow via Frankfurt.. that 747 originated in Hong Kong to Singapore to New Delhi then to Frankfurt and London.. crossed over half the Earth! And the food was delightful! menus, clean air… it was heaven.. love The Queen!
The last time I flew in a 747 was from JFK to Barbados on Pan-Am. An amazing experience for certain. Especially since getting off the plane in Barbados involved a step truck. I will never forget the up close view of the Queen of the skies. It was a slow climb down those stairs, I just had to take in all of her beauty.
I had a great flight on Pan Am 747 JFK-MAD as a jump seat rider. Great fun riding on the flight deck for the takeoff and landing, and during cruise in First Class. Great combination of Pan Am as the launch customer for the 747, and having the opportunity to jump seat on my favorite plane of all time. I spent most of my flying career flying Boeing's light twin trainer the 737, not a bad choice while chasing my dream while flying for a great airline at Southwest Airlines. Boeing built some great planes that safely delivered an accident free flying career of over 30 years, and great memories.
I was blessed to fly the 747 twice. LAX to SYD, and AUK to LAX. And the AUK to LAX leg was on Qantas "Wunula Dreaming" i almost fainted when the plane pulled up to the gate. I am now planning a trip on a LH 747-8. Unfortunately I was never able to hitch a ride on a classic 747, but I still have plenty of time for the -8. Beijing, Seoul and Berlin! Here I come!!! She is my favorite plane to date by far, with the 767-400, 777, 787, and A350 not far behind.
I flew a Pan Am Clipper Sea 747 from Melbourne to Honolulu and a Lufthansa 747 from Frankfurt to Buenos Aires. After an AF007 from New York to Paris flight I much prefer the A380 due to its better seats, more legroom, better air quality, lower noise, better entertainment system and a better safety record. I will be sadder when the last A380 retires.
I've flown on 747s with Pan Am and Lufthansa. Wonderful plane. The last one I was inside was actually the very first 747, the prototype on exhibit at Seattle's Museum of Flight.
The B747-8 - the best 747 because its engines are better and more reliable than any 747 engines ever before, and it's longer, too - the world's longest airliner currently in service. Plus, I flew economy in these, I've seen many complaints about its economy product, but the plain and simple truth is, I thoroughly enjoyed both economy flights in LH 747-8. The food was definitely some of the best economy meals I've had.

First flew Pan Am 747 JFK to Amsterdam in July 1970 when the seating was still 9 across. Flew Braniffs Big Orange Dallas to Honolulu, Americans with the piano lounge Newark to San Juan, many trips United to Honolulu. Wow, those were great days in airline travel.
Last flew on a 747 in 2003 on a flight from ATL to Tokyo...prior to that I flew a 747 in 2002 from Seoul Korea to Anchorage AK. I felt like I was in a huge apartment...very comfortable plane.
A 747 was the first plane I ever flew on, when we moved from Germany to South West Africa (today's Namibia) in January 1976. SAA had to fly a long route, avoiding the African mainland, as apartheid meant that they were not allowed to go into most African countries' airspace. As a result, we flew for 14 hours, with a refueling stop on Sal in the Cape Verdes.
Done 2x return trips on BA 747s. Beautiful plane and definitely a memorable experience. Last time was in 2009 but still remember lifting off from Toronto and banking steeply over the city lights at night. I'd love to go on a Lufthansa one before they go!

I've flown Lufthansa's 747-400 & 747-8 recently. Have to admit that the economy class on those planes are quite uncomfortable. Hopefully next time I get the chance to fly on business with a bit more comfort in order to really enjoy the ride!
The last time I flew in a beautiful 747 was back in 1982 from London to Hong Kong. In those days, Kai Tak was still in use! An excellent flight and an extremely skillful landing.

No other jet comes close to the 747 for comfort. Flew it many times on the upper and lower deck in business class. Such a roomy and comfortable experience. Recently flew a 787 in 1st class - absolutely hated it. 777 isn't bad, but the Lady of the Skies will always be the best.
I won't take the airliner's retirement timeframe for granted, so I'll definitely try to fly on a 747 for the first time as soon as I can. And the same for the a380
I remember having a middle row to myself on a 747 back from greece back in 2001 and watching the Nutty professor I just layed out and enjoyed my movies on the ride in the big bird.
The last I flew this aircraft was back in 1987 or 1988 when I was a kid. I really want to fly it again as an adult, but none of the airlines I fly have one in their fleet anymore. I guess when I go to Germany next, I'll try to find a trip on a Lufthansa with 747. If I were rich, I'd definitely buy one as a private luxury jet as my house in the sky!
Flew on a bunch of 747s in the 80s... coach so it wasn't necessarily a pleasant experience as the seats are 3-5-3. But the last time I flew one was Korean Air in business class back in 2018. I picked upper deck for the experience and it did not disappoint! Going up the stairs was special and Korean air business has so much legroom to a fault! Sad to see it go.
She was the first aircraft I ever flew in, and I've been lucky to fly in the 300, 400 and - 8's, sitting upstairs and downstairs. I'm now an aircraft engineer, so she certainly left an impression!

The last one I flew was in 2002 to Australia on Qantas. I will be flying one next year on Lufthansa for a vacation to Germany. I have l flown the 747 many times since 1976. I will miss her when she is gone.

Flew on a KLM 747-400 back in 2015 from Schipol to Nairobi. One of the smoothest flights I’ve ever experienced. Have since lost the picture I took of that day which bugs the life out of me, but I’ll be flying on a -8 asap
Being born in Sweden with a Kenyan family (Kenyan mother, Swedish father), I flew that exact route with the 747-400 alot as a child. Every summer we used to take a 737 from Stockholm at 0630 followed by the trip’s highlight: the 747-400. I’ve also flown the Thai 744 and LH 748 in the meanwhile, but my most memorable experience was on one of those flights, when the turbulence was so severe that people were screaming like mad! I can’t imagine any of those passengers would have wanted an A321LR or similar. After landing, my mum let everyone else go off to calm the nerves a bit, but when we left the aircraft only the crew bus was there. So we got to go in the same bus as the crew, and I distinctly remember asking the first officer’s reply being “I didn’t think we’d make it”. Now everyone else was laughing, but this scared me shitless as a 12 year old haha! Also remember flying in Business Class for the first time, on the upper 747 deck with my father on the return night flight. And now I’m about to (purposefully) recreate those flights in less than a month - but this time it’s gonna be on a 777. Man I’ve got some good memories with that plane.
Now, my next wish is to fly the A340 before they disappear! Hope there’s a LH destination somewhere with the A346 from MUC and A343 from FRA lol
I told my husband we need to go visit Korea (where he lived for a few years). I would plan a trip to Hawaii for a few days (to break up the long flight) then take one of their remaining KoreanAir 747's from HNL to SEOUL. I was lucky to watch it take off from HNL back in November. Such a beautiful Livery! So I guess I have less than 8 years to plan that trip! :)
Funny enough, when he first few to and from Korea back in 2002, he flew on a 747 both ways from Seattle. Lucky him!
I’d consider myself to watch ANY airplane take off from Honolulu. That would mean that I was in Hawaii. . . instead of freezing my ass off in Canada 😉

I took the boeing tour years ago but it was so cool to see where some of the planes are built. Highly recommend.

If you're ever in Korea, Ulsan city tours gives you a tour of the Hyundai plant as well as the shipyards. Best $6 I ever spent.

I've flown on the 47 many many times. Both the passenger version and the freighter. I flew for Southern Air Transport, though I never flew the 47. But she is a true gentle giant.
I've flown all over the world, many thousands of air miles, over the last half century, on nearly every type of airliner from the DC-3 to the 787. My all-time favorite is the 747. I've crossed the Atlantic and Pacific, flown Asia to Europe, and across the US on these birds. There's just something about the graceful lines, the way they roll off and onto the runway, and the stability they have in flight that makes them a joy to travel on. Nothing else even comes close.
pretty cool. My job took me overseas a few times . In Alaska I flew in all types of fixed and rotary wing aircraft as a passenger doing my job. I never flew in a DC3 but flew in a C47 that towed gliders on DDay for the RCAF. One job was working for the FAA on a communications contract all over the state at radar sites, airports and at Anchorage and Seattle Center. We would charter Citations and Conquest quite a bit there. I worked at P&WA a few years in the late 1970s assembling JT8s and JT9s. Before that I was an avionics tech on P3 Orions. I even had an7ECA Champ I bought and learned to fly 40 years ago. I haven’t been up in the air since 2014 now.

My father was a career. Marine, as a child, we flew all over the world regularly on the 747. 1993 was the last flew on a 747. Flying in the 70s and 80s had a grander feel. It was the highlight of any trip or move we were making. I will miss flying and seeing this great plane as much moving forward. Over 50 years of service is remarkable. It will be missed. Thank you for your great videos.

My memories of this are relatively hazy, but I actually flew on an Air China 747-400 from Beijing Capital to Vancouver back in June of 2012. Sat on the lower deck like any economy passenger. Can't remember if I sat with my family on the window seat or the middle rows.
I do hope to fly on the passenger 747s again a few more times before they're all gone in the future!
Honestly, as a 747 fan I was expecting to get depressed by this video about "the last 747," but quite the opposite is true: it really made my day! I'm 55 yo, and I find it extremely comforting to know that I'll certainly leave this world before the Queen does! In other words, as I close my eyes for good, she may be flying overhead, as if marking the passing of one of her many friends and admirers.

I can remember seeing my first 747, it was in the very early '70's. I was attending the University of Central Florida (Florida Technological University at the time) and a few friends and I took a trip to Tampa International Airport just to see this new aircraft. We were on the 3rd floor of the AP looking straight into the cockpit. It was many years later before I actually got to fly in one.
In the mid-2000's we flew in them several times going to Taiwan and China. On the last trip, I got to fly first class. Normally I had to fly coach, but a friend I was traveling with had a slew of expiring frequent flier miles.

The 747 have outlasted and outsold all of her competitors in history. In fact all the DC-10, L-1011, MD-11, A340, and A380 in the world combined had sold less than the 747. She's truly the Queen of the Skies.

I took two 747s on a one way trip to Tokyo, with a stopover in Taipei. The seats were comfy enough to drift off sitting up. In Taipei, I saw my aircraft being pulled up to the gate. These birds are a wonder to behold and be transported by.
I really wish I could've been there to see the last 747. It's the plane that had gotten me back into aviation and caused me to switch my major back in my early college days. If it weren't for it, I wouldn't be where I'm at right now. The 747 is my favorite plane and it still continues to inspire me. I just hope I can fly on her one day.

My first trip to London when I was 16 was a TWA 747. I was astonished by the size inside. The massive width of the cabin, it's high ceilings, the time it took to walk it's length. A few years (and many many 747 flights later) I became a Flight Attendant for TWA out of JFK and got to work countless trips to Europe, the Middle East, and Hawaii on the 747. I remember loving walking the tarmac under the massive wings and ridiculously tall vertical stabilizer; not to mention several photo ops standing in the engine nacelles!
I already miss the 747 - an extraordinary machine on so many levels.
I remember flying the 747 the summer before my freshman year of high school. It was my first time traveling by myself and I was headed to Israel for a summer camp. This was the summer of 2001 so right before 9/11 but the second intifada had just begun in Israel so there were a lot of fears around traveling in the area.
It was a very peculiar flight; there were maybe 100 passengers total on the plane so I had an entire row of 4 seats to myself to stretch out, plenty of room for comfort on the 12-14 hour flight. It was also before the days of on-demand entertainment but the flight did have movies playing and headsets were available from the crew.
I ended up watching Along Came a Spider 3 times back to back. Quite memorable as my last time flying on a 747.
I remember when the last British Airways 747 left Heathrow. The final chat between ATC and pilots, so stoic, so heart wrenching😢
I'm glad to have had the honor of building the last three. The factory looks so empty without the giant 747 sitting in position.

My dad worked for UAL and we got to take a special tour of the first 747 to come to SFO. It was cool.
We also flew to Hawaii many times (SA). Always First Class. I even remember when there was a lounge in the hump. Many, many fond memories of The Queen of the Skies.

I've flown this beauty a long time ago from Frankfurt to Chicago and yes, it was Lufthansa. It was love at first sight 😀I've flown many other planes ever since, but this one is THE ONE. I have a large diecast model of it with me now. Hope to hop onto a flight in this plane before it is history.
I flew the SAS 747 "Huge Viking" in 1972 when I was just shy of 14. I was accompanying my father, an airline executive with Eastern Airlines on the way to a computer networking conference in Copenhagen, so we flew in first class. I flew a lot in those days but this was by far the BEST flight experience of my entire life! I recall the slow, long, powerful stride down the runway on takeoff at 10pm from JFK, the amazing cuisine they served and fantastic service we received all night long, treat after treat. I was even allowed to drink a little sherry in order to get to sleep. Which I couldn't, because I was so excited. I spent most of the night alone in the upper deck lounge, looking out at the night, the dawn and then the icebergs below. It was totally worth the jetlag I experienced the next day. I only wish our return to America had been aboard the "Huge Viking" but it was onboard a DC-8, a huge letdown, alas. I have such fond memories of that flight and really regret I never got to fly another 747.

@@cobyexplanes On Scandinavian they did not have passenger seats and if I recall properly neither did anybody else. Keep in mind that the original 747's upper deck was not huge. My memory of the upper lounge is not as clear but I believe was configured with sofa-type seating facing inwards with small tables in between them. I believe there was also a bar up there too. Not an open bar with access to teenaged me unfortunately. :)
First flight on a 747 , was with BOAC in 1973 . As a 12 year old I was blown away by the size of it ....
My first, and so far only, pax 747 flight was on a UA -100 back in the ‘80s on a flight to Hawaii. It was probably the best flight I’ve ever taken. I all sorts of 747 things around the house including actual cockpit flight operations manuals and even the Pan Am View-master reels from the early ‘70s. For some reason I haven’t flown this aircraft on MSFS despite owning that program since day one.
I do have plenty of time working with the 747 in airline operations, including one day having to work as a cabin cleaner when our cleaning contractor went on strike. I kept cleaning cabin after cabin after cabin and never found the back of that airplane. Plenty of time was also spent on the ramp, both in pax and freight operations. I have the distinction of banging up Singapore’s then fairly new 9V-SFN twice in the same night (neither incident technically my fault, but I was at the in-plane controls for both), both incidents fixed up with a smattering of speed tape. Working that aircraft was a dream in comparison to the other common freighters we dealt with at the time, the DC-10 and MD-11. Better loading options because of the cargo door behind the wing (even when not using the nose door), easier CG management, full cargo handling system, nose gear that was vertical and an APU that didn’t torture the crew by blasting down onto the ramp.
I am currently working with Lufthansa in the world of air freight, albeit at a smaller airport that doesn’t have any freighter operations. I’m hoping to use this connection to get a flight to Germany on a 747 someday, allowing me to say that I’ve flown on the earliest and latest 747 variants. Even though I may have direct lights from my city I’ll happily take any rerouting necessary to fly on the Queen one more time.

I've never had the opportunity to fly on the 747 but the L-1011 has a place in my heart just from flying it on DL as a kid so much throughout the US. Hopefully I will get to fly the 747 someday but the next time I fly a widebody it'll be a 787 in a few months.
Hey Coby. If my memory serves me correctly, Sam Chui was on a Qantas long distance test flight of an A350 with Qantas CEO Alan Joyce. Sam asked Alan what his favorite aircraft is. Alan responded, "The 747" to which Sam faced the camera grinning ear to ear with 2 👍👍! There will never be another Queen of the Skies. The A380 was just a real big plane, but it didn't dethrone the 747!

I was fortunate. In the 70's and 80's I flew for work a lot. A LOT. I would be on a 747 2 or 3 times a week for several years. Loved that plane.
My favorite airplane is the Boeing 747! When the 747-8 came out with its massive new engines it became my favorite airplane of all time! It’s sad to see the Queen of the Skies last plane leave the facility, but I’m glad it will be flying on. I can’t wait to fly on a jumbo jet (747) soon. Got to fly on Atlas a couple times…took the ole Rotator flight from BWI to Incirlik AB in Turkey, and again back home. Oh, the memories. That was the only plane I was ever comfortable on…this gargantuan behemoth taking a young, scared me to an unknown part of the world with hundreds of strangers. 16 months later I popped as many prescription pills I dared and boarded the same plane. We took off, and I mean it when I was at total peace-the plane could’ve been shot down then and there-we finally left that miserable place. 😅😑
my last 747 flight was on a 747-138. It was Aer Lingus EI-ASJ, the Saint Colm Cille in August 1989. I never thought that would be the last time. I miss the Colm Cille and the Saint Patrick, EI-ASI.
I worked for four years, in the early seventies, as a cabin attendant on the first B747's ... on the 200 and the SP versions. Great planes, and the SP was an exceptional aircraft.
The power blew me away, and the great whining sounds during take-off still ring in my ears...
I also worked on the B707, 727 and 737, and the first Airbus, the A300. The Boeing hegemony would be broken by this upstart in the airline manufacturing business

The flight from London to Seattle,was,my immigration flight BA49, 747-400 with a special tail livery as British flew them in the 90s…. Flew later first class and that was epic! The 747 was the only plane in the many many I’ve flown in, showing me what true thrust is! Her take speed,is unmatched in my experience!
I was a passenger on a 747 once. I'm now glad that I had that experience since I have become obsessed with commercial flight. I missed my opportunity with the Concorde and I am truly annoyed I did not realize I could have done it. I appreciate the work horse the 747 has become! Truly a great freighter! The last time I flew on a 747 was in August of 2017, when I flew with Lufthansa for a stopover in Frankfurt to begin my study abroad semester in Prague! Loved it. Seeing the curvature of the aircraft sitting at the front of economy really took my breath away!
I remember flying the 747-400ER in 2015 from Sydney to Las Angeles, smooth ride and a smooth landing, sad to see the 400ER retired so early because of covid (they were only 10 years old) but the cargo versions of the -400F, -400ERF and the -8F will fly for a long time and hopefully will have 30+ years flying with atlas air, UPS and more!

The last time I flew on a 747 was from IAD/Washington Dulles-Frankfurt on Lufthansa about 10 years ago. The people traveling with me didn't like it that much, but I did, maybe because I liked the big plane experience and because LH gives you pretty good food. Would love to fly again!
Only Time I flew a 747 was a UA 747-4 from SFO to NRT, right before she was retired. I specifically booked IAH-SFO-NRT to take a ride on her.
It was great. I hope I get a chance to fly the 747-8 in the future, LH flies them to Argentina which is nearby...(I'm from Uruguay)
I first flew in a 747 in 1982 from Guam to Hawaii to LAX on board PanAm. I also flew on one with Braniff airlines.
In 2002, I flew on a QANTAS 747-400 from LAX to SYD. For reasons I don't remember, we had to board the plane from the tarmac. Just taking the bus out and seeing this massive aircraft sitting there was so cool. On this flight I managed to take a nap and wake up about 7hrs in. At this point, it was the longest flight I'd ever been on, and it was only half way. I redid this trip in 2016 but on a 787, which was a much better experience for someone who suffers from dry eyes.
Also in 2002, I had the chance to fly an EVA Air 747 Combi from EWR-SEA-Taipei. It was strange, as it felt like a giant 747 in the front, with the back half missing, but replaced by a giant wall, not the normal taper.
I think I also flew on a QANTAS 747-300, a few British Airways, and a Swiss Air 747 in the mid-90's - early 2000's.
I flew on 747s operated by TWA, Alitalia, China Airlines, British Airways, and PanAm. I remember walking up the stairs to a TWA flight and seeing the big Pratt&Whitney eagle logo that said “Dependable Engines”. My thought was that’s exactly what I want. The big bird never let me down.
My dad, working for United Airlines, took me and my brother to Seattle and Boeing Field in 1968 where I sat in the left-hand pilots seat of the prototype 747. We later watched from the side of the runway as a Pan Am 747 landed in front of us. Once parked, we went onboard and I remember the plastic coverings on the seats, and that new airplane smell! Wish I had an iPhone back then to record the experience.
My one and only flight on a 74 was February 10, 1980. LA to Honolulu on Braniff. A week from tomorrow will be the 43rd anniversary of that flight. I'll never forget how big that plane was inside! My assigned seat was seat A in front of the wings. Too bad I didn't have a cell phone back then.
I was in the high school band that played the fanfare as the first 747 rolled out those BIG doors in 1968.

My first flight on a 747 was in 1971. Have been on many, many since then and have loved every one! Have been in upper deck a few times, but I prefer seats on the lower deck near the nose. I have been on many flights a "little" further back in the plane, too. It is a wonderful plane. Sorry to see it go. Sounds like it will be flying long after I am gone, though.
I flew on 747s in the 90s and early 00's. I remember having to watch a TV that flipped down from the ceiling, and I remember being envious of people that got to sit upstairs.
I have no country’s lines recognition by the invisible line from the Globalization at all. We should treated each one is different groups of the families; when you fly the panes that you can’t separate the lands and peoples. Seeking you all working so enjoying to each others made me feels trusting you all doing without me suggest; that’s the professional to be born on earth’s. it didn’t means your education; all is hands touching to knows how much you really understand the planes as your new born baby’s born so happily with muscles. Hi Coby, I disagree with you on the Cargo Aircraft being less affected by Jet Fuel prices. Most cargo is not flying at the high express revenue as it does with the likes of Fedex or UPS. Cargo will quicky shift to more efficient twin-engine aircraft because of this. However is my believe that the 747F will continue to operate for many more years to come, as a niche aircraft to deal with special and oversized Cargo, similar to the AN225 has been doing until recently. Its good to have the Queen of the Skies around for many more years, she is a beauty!!!!
Very nice review… I first flew on a Northwest 747 in 1972 from Miami to Minneapolis… delightful! It was huge and so comfortable. Next 2 times were in 1977 on British Airways from New York JFK to London Heathrow… then back on British Airways from New Dehli to London Heathrow via Frankfurt.. that 747 originated in Hong Kong to Singapore to New Delhi then to Frankfurt and London.. crossed over half the Earth! And the food was delightful! menus, clean air… it was heaven.. love The Queen!

The last time I flew in a 747 was from JFK to Barbados on Pan-Am. An amazing experience for certain. Especially since getting off the plane in Barbados involved a step truck. I will never forget the up close view of the Queen of the skies. It was a slow climb down those stairs, I just had to take in all of her beauty.

I had a great flight on Pan Am 747 JFK-MAD as a jump seat rider. Great fun riding on the flight deck for the takeoff and landing, and during cruise in First Class. Great combination of Pan Am as the launch customer for the 747, and having the opportunity to jump seat on my favorite plane of all time. I spent most of my flying career flying Boeing's light twin trainer the 737, not a bad choice while chasing my dream while flying for a great airline at Southwest Airlines. Boeing built some great planes that safely delivered an accident free flying career of over 30 years, and great memories.

I was blessed to fly the 747 twice. LAX to SYD, and AUK to LAX. And the AUK to LAX leg was on Qantas "Wunula Dreaming" i almost fainted when the plane pulled up to the gate. I am now planning a trip on a LH 747-8. Unfortunately I was never able to hitch a ride on a classic 747, but I still have plenty of time for the -8. Beijing, Seoul and Berlin! Here I come!!! She is my favorite plane to date by far, with the 767-400, 777, 787, and A350 not far behind.
I flew a Pan Am Clipper Sea 747 from Melbourne to Honolulu and a Lufthansa 747 from Frankfurt to Buenos Aires. After an AF007 from New York to Paris flight I much prefer the A380 due to its better seats, more legroom, better air quality, lower noise, better entertainment system and a better safety record. I will be sadder when the last A380 retires.
I've flown on 747s with Pan Am and Lufthansa. Wonderful plane. The last one I was inside was actually the very first 747, the prototype on exhibit at Seattle's Museum of Flight.
The B747-8 - the best 747 because its engines are better and more reliable than any 747 engines ever before, and it's longer, too - the world's longest airliner currently in service. Plus, I flew economy in these, I've seen many complaints about its economy product, but the plain and simple truth is, I thoroughly enjoyed both economy flights in LH 747-8. The food was definitely some of the best economy meals I've had.

First flew Pan Am 747 JFK to Amsterdam in July 1970 when the seating was still 9 across. Flew Braniffs Big Orange Dallas to Honolulu, Americans with the piano lounge Newark to San Juan, many trips United to Honolulu. Wow, those were great days in airline travel.
My last flight on a B747 was my last flight before 9/11 - May 2001, MSP-AMS with KLM - haven’t flown one since, unfortunately.
Last flew on a 747 in 2003 on a flight from ATL to Tokyo...prior to that I flew a 747 in 2002 from Seoul Korea to Anchorage AK. I felt like I was in a huge apartment...very comfortable plane.
A 747 was the first plane I ever flew on, when we moved from Germany to South West Africa (today's Namibia) in January 1976. SAA had to fly a long route, avoiding the African mainland, as apartheid meant that they were not allowed to go into most African countries' airspace. As a result, we flew for 14 hours, with a refueling stop on Sal in the Cape Verdes.
This is absolutely incredible that the last 747 could possibly be flying 100 years after the first one was built.
Done 2x return trips on BA 747s. Beautiful plane and definitely a memorable experience. Last time was in 2009 but still remember lifting off from Toronto and banking steeply over the city lights at night. I'd love to go on a Lufthansa one before they go!

I've flown Lufthansa's 747-400 & 747-8 recently. Have to admit that the economy class on those planes are quite uncomfortable. Hopefully next time I get the chance to fly on business with a bit more comfort in order to really enjoy the ride!
The last time I flew in a beautiful 747 was back in 1982 from London to Hong Kong. In those days, Kai Tak was still in use! An excellent flight and an extremely skillful landing.
The 747 was the very first plane I ever flew on as a youngster back in 1990. A trip to Disney World on a Pan Am Clipper flight from JFK to Orlando. Long Live The Real Queen!!

I was in Seattle about a month ago to see Boeing not knowing this was going to happen a month later. I should have gone later.
No other jet comes close to the 747 for comfort. Flew it many times on the upper and lower deck in business class. Such a roomy and comfortable experience. Recently flew a 787 in 1st class - absolutely hated it. 777 isn't bad, but the Lady of the Skies will always be the best.

I won't take the airliner's retirement timeframe for granted, so I'll definitely try to fly on a 747 for the first time as soon as I can. And the same for the a380
I remember having a middle row to myself on a 747 back from greece back in 2001 and watching the Nutty professor I just layed out and enjoyed my movies on the ride in the big bird.

The last I flew this aircraft was back in 1987 or 1988 when I was a kid. I really want to fly it again as an adult, but none of the airlines I fly have one in their fleet anymore. I guess when I go to Germany next, I'll try to find a trip on a Lufthansa with 747. If I were rich, I'd definitely buy one as a private luxury jet as my house in the sky!
Flew on a bunch of 747s in the 80s... coach so it wasn't necessarily a pleasant experience as the seats are 3-5-3. But the last time I flew one was Korean Air in business class back in 2018. I picked upper deck for the experience and it did not disappoint! Going up the stairs was special and Korean air business has so much legroom to a fault! Sad to see it go.

She was the first aircraft I ever flew in, and I've been lucky to fly in the 300, 400 and - 8's, sitting upstairs and downstairs. I'm now an aircraft engineer, so she certainly left an impression!

I really wished it’s wings and engines had been upgraded with the -8 hardware. This would have provided cruise altitudes well about FL500
The last one I flew was in 2002 to Australia on Qantas. I will be flying one next year on Lufthansa for a vacation to Germany. I have l flown the 747 many times since 1976. I will miss her when she is gone.
