By the way, I am one of the 12 finalists of the TH-cam NextUp Manila 2019! As part of the activities, we were immersed in a 5-day intensive series of workshops (and parties!) culminating in a video assignment. This was my entry for that video assignment.
This episode was shot in a TH-cam Pop Up Space. I chose a green screen because I have never tried using it before and I want to learn it so I can incorporate it into my videos.
Shout outs to my batch mates, the NextUp Manila Class of 2019!
I'm inviting you to Subscribe to their channels because we are planning to do a lot of collabs really soon!

4 years ago I said I will be working for CMA CGM. Right after I've finished university - Whoosh ... I got on board on CMA CGM Cassiopeia as Engine Cadet for 2 months now - 4 to go.
I love the job, I got amazing crew members. It was kind of difficult at start (first 7 days when I got homesick now and then), but now ... I think it will be really hard to adapt to life at home. In these 2 months I've travelled from Valencia to Busan and now we're heading back - currently in Shanghai.
All in all, one of the greatest factor ARE crew members. If you get people that are willing to help and teach you and also to hang out every day - days won't be boring and they will pass really fast.
Fingers crossed guys, 4 more months and I'm going back home.
To all other seafarers, I wish you calm seas and fair winds.

All very true Chief. I found that "Living out of a Suitcase" (or Seabag) around the world was an experience I would not trade knowing what I do today, but at the time most people I knew who did the same, few would have done it by choice and many found it miserable but obligations gave way what they experienced as misery. Resentment of one's choice in life often becomes is cancer on one's soul that leaves us believing there is no better or upward path in life. Having a long term perspective and a goal worthy of persevering to reach will usually prove the sacrifice worthwhile while mistaking transitory gratification at the cost of personal sacrifice can become a trap, and an addiction. I also saw many who gave up working away from family to spend more time with families, only to have their life as a family crumble in the face of reduced income and other resentments that evolved, that is why dedication to, and love of family is the most valuable aspect of life lived mostly apart or with loved-ones.

    Dear Mr Makoi.
I will never never stop to work at sea.
It’s a paid vacation for me.
To work with (normal) fellow sea farers.
Not dealing with all the crazyness that working ashore brings.
When at home the serious business begins. No vacation ... family matters all the time.....🤔😬.
Take care , thx for a lovely channel........

I was a working 'land lubber' for 30 years before switching careers. After graduating from the academy I went to sea and worked another 20 years on riverboats and then cargo ships before retiring. I was a chief engineer, then radio-electronics officer. It was a great experience and I'm glad that I did it. Not everyone is cut out for the job, but it worked out very well for me!

Hi Chief :) Yes, i was very lucky to be a seafarer for 5 years in Maersk Line when i was younger. I have been traveling around nearly the hole world, and being able to explore and learn different countries and cultures. That did change my life, even though i did know a lot of it before, i was able to see it with my own eyes. I was never seasick, even in very hard weather. My legs did hurt a little bit, because of the long time i had to balance. But all in all, i'll always remember that period of my life for being a lot of hard work, but also all the great experiences i did have. :)

    Boss Chief Macoy!
Everytime I will heard your vioce and watch your videos on your seaferer's journey it will inspired me alot, naluluha pa nga po ako minsan dahil nadin sa background music po nila. hehe
Yes! your correct sir, kong di malakas ang loob mo susubukin ka talaga ng tadhana.
I was a seaferer before last 2012 as messman. My experience was great and my colleague are supportive specially the chefmate, captain and also the chief enginer aswell na kahit madalas ako ibully habang sila ay kumakain in crewmess hehehe but it's ok para maging masaya lang kami lagi sa barko.
I wasn't able to finish my contract for 9 months and I requested to the captain na gusto ko ng umuwi because of homesickness. The captain and chefmate they don't want me to go dahil sayang daw also my performce is execellent on board.
Maybe the reason is Im alone at wala akong kaclose or makausap talaga. Umiikot lang buhay ko sa barko sa cabina at sa work for 7days no restday start at 5am to 8pm. Despite of that situation I'm still traying to do my duties on board, I woke in the morning at 4am to prepare cooked rice, wash the dishes, asst the chef cook and clean the big 4 cabin's and I don't have any problem with that also Im happy and I loved my job. at hindi naman po ganon kahirap work ko the only thing is homesick at mag buhat ng mabigat, magisa lang po kasi ako aside from that Im fined.
I only finish my contract for almost 5 months. Yong naging kapalitan ko na messman is 5 months contract lang and I told to my self na sana 5 months muna binigay sakin just to tried if I can survive buhay sa barko.
On this journy marami akong natutunan na dapat lumaban lang sa buhay at kong ano man disesyon gagawin mo dapat handa ka palagi. Hindi lang ako siguro sanay sa ganong environment na panay tubig na kikita mo.
I worked now in the BPO industry here in Makati.
But Im still considering and hoping makasampa ulit for the 2nd time.
If namimis ko yong naging buhay ko sa barko pinapanood ko lang po palagi sir mga videos mo at iniisip ko din saan na kaya mga nakasama ko before (crew).
Sir Chief Makoi thank for sharing your journey to inspired other people like me and godbless.
Request lang po sir shout out please on your next video.😊 Thank you.

This is a profession not for everyone. It takes a great deal of discipline and balance in mind and character, a good

For me, what I like about life at sea, is that it makes the world look bigger. Today in the modern time on land, we have internet and can know a lot about what is happening in other countries. Also, we can travel very far in just a day by plane. This makes the world look small. But on sea, you have (almost) no internet. And travel to very far places can takes weeks, maybe even more than a month or months. This is what makes the world look bigger.

  • @100prestige
    @100prestige 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Well here's a good one concerning the life of a sea farer down below.
You have just completed your watch and are back in your cabin when off go the genset alarms.
The current one on line is overtemping and down on five.
When you are alongside it you note it's knocking it's nuts off.
It's up the top end so you pull the stop control.
A compression test reveals only 30 psi on no 3 ( not in firing order ) whereby the rest show 380 ish.
Another genset is now on line so off with the head.
It's dropped an exhaust valve the head of which is lying on the piston crown.
As the valve head has been bouncing around in the bore the piston/liner and head are written off.
So it's off with the crankcase door and draw the piston and strongback the liner out.
In the stores and out with a spare ready to go head and piston/liner kit.
In with the liner, check flame ring heights and back on with the head etc.
You notice on the piston/liner kit that it is marked " this liner has been counter clockwise manufactured "
Change the oil and filter and flash her up.
All ok, it's late so back to your bunk/bed.
Trying to sleep you are kept awake thinking about those markings on that piston/liner kit.
No one has seen this before and I observe from your videos that you Chief are ,the type of character who would want to know what the score is here?
So what is the difference between a clockwise machined liner and a counter clockwise machined liner?
We have to bear in mind the stress caused by a anti-clockwise cutting tool versus a clockwise cutting tool operation insomuch that the clockwise machined liner causes the dwarf to fall away from the job downwards whereby anti-clockwise machining operation requires energy to propel it into the air.
So instead of watching that film for the 29th time give it some thought as it's my intuition that this could well be a new one even for you?

    Its definitely not for everybody.
It can be a real strain on a family.
We use to say, “going to sea is like being in prison, except you don’t get any visitors at sea”
In my twenty-nine years at sea, the hardest part was missing out on life events at home. Besides myself, I knew others who had an emergency situation happen at home, but could do nothing about it.
There are a lot of divorced sailors out there and I became one of them.
There is great money to be made, but money is not everything.

I'm too old to start now, so I travel the world with friends or travel groups. But I won't deny that when I see a ship leaving a dock or harbor, there's a bit of romanticism and a lot of respect for those on board. Thanks for sharing and safe journeys.

DrownedToad Thank you my friend. I worked for SAS ( Scandinavian Airlines) for 10 yrs. Then I had three back surgeries in four yrs, and that was the end of that. It is confusing when your head is 20 and your body is 120.

Yes I have what it takes period but now I am an old person I'm 59 years old. I would have loved to started this 30 plus years ago but I missed my opportunities because I didn't pursue it. When I was a child I grew up on fishing boats is San Francisco Bay always dreamed of being some kind of a captain LOL. Anyways as I grew up on the peninsula of San Francisco I ended up working for a company making artificial seawater for marine life LOL surrounded by sea water and I made sea water on land in a dry form and we shipped it in containers all over the world so yes I know a little bit about container ships and boats but I would rather have traveled like you do. But like all of us I'm old now but I still enjoy your videos because it makes me remember what I could have done also I watch you travel. Much respect to you captain aka Superman. Much love Joe Dirt NorCal

Hey Chief, love watching your videos. I couldn't do what you do. Though, like you I have done some long time on various other brown water vessels and now have my Chief Engineer License. I work a 14/7 schedule and it is a nice mix of home and work. I am currently in the running for the 1st Assistant Engineer onboard our dredge. Not bad for coming here in 2013 as a deckhand. Safe travels Chief!

MAKOi, I would have no problem being at sea for however months/years my contract called for, here in American my chosen profession was driving semi trucks 'all over' North America, just under 'five million miles' all done alone, while most all drivers marry and have families, me Ive never married, I can honestly say 'I can count on my two hands the number of dates with girls/women, 'no' I am not gay, that part of normal life has 'never' been part of mine, I've always been the shy around women type! After 'thirty two years' of truckin I had a 'personal accident while on an oilfield frac job site accident, after two back surgeries I'm now handicapped and totally miss my loved career! I've enjoyed watching and learning throughout your many videos, I thank you for sharing yourself, in this video your family, the many deck crews, the many engine crews and your many tours throughout the ships from end to end, top to bottom, I always wish you and everyone on board safety and happiness for the professions y'all have made in your lives, whenever I see your name attached to a video I click on them every time, y'all be well and safe.

I wanted to go to sea when I was 16-17 years old, I had a great interest in big machineries and what bigger can you get than a ships diesel motor. Since I am from Sweden I was looking at what was available and there was a shipping company called "Nordstjernan" if I remember it right, and apart from shipping they also ran a "Seamen's High School". I actually didn't want to have all the responsibilities that a Chief Engineer, too much maths and things like that and it wasn't my best subject, so I was looking a bit lower down. Being a Donkey Man sounded interesting so that was what I was looking at.
However, my mother didn't want me to spend that much time away from home, so she put a stop to all that by enlisting me to some Technical High School instead, with Basic Mechanics and things like that on the schedule, and there I got an education that I haven't had any use for at all in my adult life. / B.
