  • This is my re-review of the Ferrex 2 in 1 Scarifier from ALDI.
    I unboxed and reviewed this scarifier last year, but I may have made a mistake with naming the scarifier and power rake... 😬

      I imagine you're going to pull up quite a bit of thatch! I hope the scarification went well 👍🏻

    Well explained, going to get myself an electric rake.

    I think their both scarifiers, but they should be used under different conditions,the power rake removes thatch from the lawn so should be called a dethatcher the scarifier removes thatch and breaks up the soil surface in preparation for sowing grass seed not a true aerator which punches hollow holes into a lawn.

    @Dindoes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No matter how small you grass it is pain staking long and labour intensive using a manual scarifier so always worth purchasing one a this price

    Thanks! Found one online locally for very little and I am going to give it a go - Scarify with a rake is painful! :)

    It’s worth clarifying as it’s not that clear online with many people calling different attachments different things. I think these companies next to explain this better.

    I also mixed up the two attachments, I ended up just using both to be on the safe side.

    Aerator is the blade attachment....the thin strips are the scarifyer takes up thatch..

  • @darrenstirrup5516
    @darrenstirrup5516 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The plot thickens. (Pardon the pun) I've got the Einhell version of this. The instruction booklet (if my memory serves) states that the blade cartridge is the aerator and the rake cartridge the scarifier. 🤔 Regardless, I've had good results with each. 👍

      @NoviceGardener  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is exactly how i ended up mixing them up! Very unclear instructions with lots of these machines.

    Is this old footage mate of your scarified back garden as you have the patio raised area now?

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's right - I didn't have much scarifying footage so had to get some old stuff for the video. I won't be scarifying the back lawn now until next spring with it being newly seeded.

    Sorry buddy, you’ve got it wrong, the blades are to a airate and the wires are to scarify.👍

  • @tonyhaz6664

    I'm looking at this matching now, but I'm unclear on the airation side, as I thought spiking the ground is airation method, also my lawn not even, will this matching actually air your lawn?
    Thanks

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s more just to remove any dead matter on top of the lawn as a way of aerating, instead of a manual aerator that will remove cores from the lawn (which are usually quite expensive for a decent one!)

    Do you know if the rake attachment can help me lear out the weeds in my lawn? I had to remove the lawn last year but had not put down weed control membranes so the weeds have take over since. Want to clear out them to plan a new lawn from seeds.

    • @noncompliance4100
      @noncompliance4100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forget the power rake it is only good for lifting leaves and crap from the surface. Scarify your lawn in multiple directions 4 or more times working down to full depth. Once you have ripped most of the thatch and weed out and the lawn is completely scalped down to the soil. reseed it with a dwarf perennial ryegrass and creeping red fescue mix and top dress over the seed with a very thin layer of sterilised weed free topsoil. If you want to cheap out on the top soil just catch the weeds as they appear digging them out with a kitchen fork. Water it lightly at least twice daily for the first 2 weeks and then daily for the next 2. Good luck.

      You dont need membrane it wont save you from weeds. Most weeds dont come up from dormant seeds below the lawn but are seeds blown in or from bird droppings from wild bird seed feed.

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  ปีที่แล้ว

      It will, but you'll want to put some liquid iron down first to kill it off. Put liquid iron down, give it a week or two and then get to scarifying. I'll be uploading a video on this tomorrow 👍🏻

      Same here, the instructions that came with it were really poor and unclear.
