It was some of the best gaming experiences in my life. I have TV's with the compass burnt into the screen.
I still have like 10 disc of this game..it was my life from beta to end nothing has ever felt the same
It was ahead of its time for no load screens. Just one streaming world.
I've heard it literally could burn out your console's Lazer from just how much map data was constantly having to load in the background, it really is a pretty impressive map for PS2

I Beta tested this game, as well as played it from start to finish and it changed my life and my oldest & middle sons too! My middle son was 4 at the time and basically learned how to read by playing the game and doing all the outlined Quests in the EQOA "Bible" guide, lol. I cannot express how severely missed this game is by many people. For a few years I Tri-boxed, with mainly 2 Twin Magicians, and leveled up many toons with them, and just about maxed out CM's. Used to have a controller on each thigh and main, character, "Puller" in hand, fun times. The sad thing is there are many many other people with stories all very similar but yet sony does not care to bring the game back, even after fans had a petition to save it, sad sad story. They could of very easily implemented it on the PS3 or revised it for the PS4. With all the retro remake bullshit that has been going on over the past 5 years, you would think this would be the Holy Grail of remakes. No other game has been able to fill the void that this has left in my heart since shut down in March 2012. But thankfully we have the Return Home Project that has been working tirelessly to bring the game back to form. I’m on the sandstorm everyday! The crack is back!

My first mmo. Nothing compares and I've tried alot. starting on xiv lv 19 lancer so far. It's ok but I sure miss this

it strikes something inside when i casually use certain words that i know i learned from playing this game in everyday conversation. i learned basic algebra skills when understanding the math behind how to calculate spells and stats. i learned strategy, preparation, teamwork, and leadership to take on the challanges of questing for my epic quests. i had to understand how to translate quest clues into directions on where to go because there wasnt such an online repository of quest information at the time. this game taught me so much.
I still have friends I talk to from all over that I made almost 20 years ago from EQOA. Hail Hodstock!!!!
I remember this video on a Playstation monthly demo disc. Little did I know I would spend the next five years of my life enjoying this game..I miss it

There is a revival project you can get join, it's pretty cool exploring the world but that's pretty much all you can do, most of the things in this game are completely lost as they were more on the server side, we don't know the quests or the weapon stats or the beginning spells and clothing for different classes, we just don't know it. And this is why online only games can be as hard to preserve as they are.

@@SunnyTacos Your sadly mistaken Sony shut down the EQOA servers March 2012. It’s well documented and you can even see videos about it here on TH-cam.
2021 i still miss the hell out of this game i seen everquest next it be cool if they made an eoa remake for ps4 ps5 anc xbox and pc

Level 60 Gnome Rogue - Bravo + Werewolf on Castle Lightwolf. Was excited when I got Bravo master class! It was one of the tougher MC's to get.

The main reason the revival is so bare bones is because a lot of the data was completely server-side and not on the client, if only they made a single player mode... That honestly might be simply too much data for the PS2 handle actually!

Thomas or Tom was watching me level at the bugged elementals cave during the race to lv60 on Hodstock server I was pulling the entire cave on my tank halfling Knuckle with Yoou Dryad and Brombadain and he was on his gnome in God mode swimming in the lava.... then convinced me I could jump in and of course I died... it was fun having game designers that actually loved the game and joined in, Hodstock was pissed my guild The Unnamed took over the entire cave with me inside and Dean at the entrance spot, one night were leveling Dean messages me dude all of Hodstock is out front, like 20 to 25 players were threatening to steal the spot thinking mobs were weak in reality they didn't cast but lv55 mobs still mellee'd hard to a lv50 and I had like 900-1k cms at the time and was full taunt path with a high ac shield.... I pulled the entire room including the outside ran around them all barely taking dmg a few assumed mobs were weak and taunted one off me only to get one shot hahaha the rest ran off but dmn it was funny, I think they were called Moots, if you died it was a long run back haha! I miss the game bad graphics and all it was a lot of fun.
I played on hodstock for a while from launch but hated my druid so when proudpine outpost launched, I left for that server and was the first bard to 50.
Why am I saying all this? Because you mentioned Yoou who was a bard who inspired me to reroll a bard, on a new server.

@@AWISECROW Some say PSO but i mean... it was so heavily instanced it might as well have been a co-op. If PSO is an MMO, then so is every Monster Hunter game ever.
