- At Lupus LA, we're committed to providing resources, support, and education to help you manage every aspect of lupus - including lung health! Did you know that lupus can affect more than just your joints and skin? It’s important to be aware that lupus, a complex autoimmune disease, can also have a significant effect on the lungs.
Watch the replay of our Live Expert Q&A with expert Beverly Hills Pulmonologist, Dr. C. Andrew Schroeder to learn all about lupus' impact on the lungs.
Lupus can cause a variety of lung issues, including:
🔹 Pleuritis: Inflammation of the lining of the lungs, which can cause sharp chest pain during breathing.
🔹 Pneumonitis: Inflammation within the lung tissue itself, potentially leading to coughing and difficulty breathing.
🔹 Pulmonary Hypertension: High blood pressure in the arteries to your lungs, which can cause shortness of breath and other symptoms.
While these complications may sound daunting, knowledge is power! Being aware of these possible problems allows for early detection and management. Regular check-ups and monitoring are crucial for those living with lupus, as early detection of lung involvement can make a significant difference in treatment and management.

THANK YOU!!
I want him as my doctor. He actually gets it!!!! My rheumatologist told me today my labs look great so there's nothing wrong. Really? Then why can't I take 20 steps without being out of breath? I'm soooooooo tired of being sick. 😢
I’ve been telling doctors for 30 years that something was wrong with me. Just now has a doctor run and ANA and it’s positive.
I've been in the icu more than once
Thank u for ur time …🙏
