      ManWhoLostTooth we all do. Biz brought a lot of heart and culture to our team and was a much needed boost at the time. Glad he still has love for Toronto. Not mad that he opted for more money with Orlando either, cause Biz does a lot of community work where ever he goes and the money certainly helps him on his misson. (Long winded comment, But Biz and Ibaka for that matter deserve all the love and appreciation they get)

    I know it’s not Congolese. But, what I was in high school I was friends with a guy and his older brother who immigrated from Ethiopia. So we would always go over to his place after school. And his mom would always have this amazing smelling traditional Ethiopian food being cooked and would give me some. I remember the first time I tried it. It was the spiciest thing I had ever eaten, but was so god damn good! His whole family couldn’t help but laugh, as I sweat my ass off every time. Reason I say that is because they make some good damn food in Africa. Good times!

      a lot of people from the Caribbean have African heritage

    • @Andres_g.V
      @Andres_g.V 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is very common. In Central America and the Caribbean we have a strong african heritage since the beginning of the spanish conquest. You can notice it in the food like rice & beans or the fried plantain; also soups and sauces; the use of leafs and other preparations some even ritualistic. The difference was the products our acenstors used, that were obviously different than their african products, but they find the way to substitute it with local food.
      Here in Costa Rica we have two african immigration periods different to each other. The first one since the beginning of the spanish conquest (early XVI century) mostly slaves stolen from Africa; and the second one (mid XIX century) workers came from Jamaica for the railroad construction and stayed here in the Caribbean coast since then, and of course they're now Costa Rican. The rice and beans is the most eaten food here and of course the delicious fried plantain is very common. The courius thing is that even if the jamaican immigrants share some food from that african heritage, like rice and beans and fried plantain among others, previously adopted here in Costa Rica since the first immigration period, they also contribute to our cuisine with the pan bon, which is the english "bon", a light colored bread made of ginger they adopted. The difference is that the jamaican didn't have ginger, so they used molasses because of the sugar cane plantations there in Jamaica. The result was a dark bon, because of the molasses, they call easter bon; then here in Costa Rica they call it pan bon (pan is the spanish translation of bread).
      So as you can see, that food you ate in Trinidad and Tobago might be a variation of the fumbwa.

    • @josweetlove1537
      @josweetlove1537 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      interesting comment. I know the Jamaican bun u speak of, strong ginger taste and not very well known in Trinidad & Tobago. Trinbagonians have what is called "pone". Grated cassava; pumpkin and coconut sweetened with brown sugar; nutmeg; cinnamon ; a little black pepper and ginger. Its all mixed together with a little added water and baked in the oven. The result is delicious and can be cut in squares like cake. The Africans in the Caribbean were inventive and we used what was available to make the dishes of our ancestors here in the Caribbean.
