    Spectacular! I have 'specialized' in Jeffs for 3 decades . . . you brought up all the reasons why they are soooooo collectible . . . .no real 'stoppers' . . . .several metals . . . . and ease of finding cool toners. Well done . . . Drunner

    Beautiful nickels. They’re really fun to hunt bank rolls. You can occasionally find a nice mint state coin in a roll.

    On that 43p you wanted FS in you can see @ 14:02 in video the bottom 2 steps touch!

  • @jrduke45
    @jrduke45 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think I seen a little gouge going through like maybe the top 2 steps in the middle of the nickle you were expecting the FS designation on. I thought it was FS's too till I seen the little mark going through where I'm talking about...

    Really interesting to see a large batch of Jefferson nickels come back from grading, definitely something you don’t see everyday.
    Perhaps you missed full steps on a couple of those note because they weren’t fully struck up but because there were contact marks on the steps themselves 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Back months ago, you and I had a conversation about 5 step vs 6 step or no steps, personally I believe that the 43P should have had full steps, but guess the two vertical hack marks was the reason for "no steps" . Guess I was extremely lucky in getting my 1940 graded by NCG as MS67 5 Full Steps. Thus my question on the ones that PCGS graded as having steps why there was no 5 or 6 step designation?

    Hi, Ben. I like Jefferson nickels. Especially early proofs and silver issues. The 5 cent nickel is the only current coin with the same metallic composition as when it first came out in 1866. I'm surprised the Mint hasn't come up with a clad zinc 5 cent coin. *TYU*

    Recently got into coins bc of a collection I inherited (typical story)…and I have to say, there’s just something about jefferson nickels. My fav. The design is simple but appealing.

    Great content!!! I am putting together a type set of nickels, my goal is to get PR70 and MS66 on all the coins. Obviously, the 1960 and below Proofs will not be available in the PR70. My big question is why are the 30's and 40's proof nickel more pricey? They are very low mintage!

  • @ad2902

    Nice. Type set choices....how about this one 1861 O seated half au-55 or 1861 seated half ms 64/65......Huge swings in price

    Is it my imagination or do some of the nickels have rotations of obverse to reverse differences?

    I'm growing old and broke waiting for my PCGS submissions to come back. It's INSANE how long it's taking. I'm having to sell my coins I had planned on getting graded raw instead, just to hold me over until I can put my 1st batch on GC.

    I just bid on a Jefferson nickel book. Witch I won for $ 155.00 I just looked through it by the way 38/ 2003 with proofs. I found 15 full steps nickels. And I filled out a PCGS Form .

    Jeff's are my thing (those and Ikes.) Those are some pretty coins. I can't imagine why that one didn't get FS. It sure looks to be FS.

  • @davidbeckerich

    Some MS66fs are much rarer than the ms67's. When you talk about pop repots which is the better grade?

    • @TheCoinGeek
      @TheCoinGeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally whichever highest graded FS is considered the toughest coin to get .

    The silver nickels are beautiful when they're in nice condition like those, but man they are just the ugliest thing when they're worn. That said those are quite pretty, especially the proof type 2. Thanks!

    I recently cut up a 1970 US Mint Set and really liked the 1970 s Jefferson Nickle # 84085. Sent it into PCGS as a # 84085 looking for a fair grade. They claim its a Proof 1970 s.... #4202.... Are S mints cut form MInts set considered PR or MS.....?????Very Disappointed with PCGS.... Plus they had my coins for over 18 weeks......

    Is it safe to dip proof nickels? I always thought e*z*est was for silver only.

    • @TheCoinGeek
      @TheCoinGeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t use ezest on copper- it can work on nickel without a reaction if it is a quick dip and rinsed properly

      @@TheCoinGeek Thanks! I tested this on a 1970 proof (since it's not worth much anyway) and it worked perfectly. 👍 I appreciate the expert advice. Your channel has been an enormous help to me.
