I’m so glad you mentioned how trends are making everyone wear the same dress or similar dresses coorded in the same way. Part of why I love lolita is that it’s a creative outlet for me. I love experimenting with colors and motifs. It baffles me that people want to look the same (unless they’re twinning lol)
Omg yes! I shouldn't be worried about a $300 dress bleeding! That's nuts! I don't understand why the community as a whole haven't organize a strike so the brand’s resolve that issue lmao
I've been on cgl recently, only because a friend told me someone in our local comm got posted in the ita thread a couple of times. It's a vile place. Just vile. I was only on that thread for a short amount of time and saw so much fatphobia and transphobia. A lot of it wasn't a case of nonconcensually concriting someone's coord (which is still horrid), it was just plain ripping the persxn and their body. Just wanted to give my recent experience, so a toxic and disgusting place can be avoided 😇
Talking about the sweet lolita trend really resonates with me. I am a classic lolita who only began getting into the fashion for a year or so. Reflect back on my experience, I watched a lot of the western influencers (like lovely lor, tyler, and a lot of other smaller lolita youtubers) and take advice from them. But then I soon realize I am leaning too much toward the sweet style. I put on a coord that looks "proper" and "well put together" but I felt so unsatisfied and so unlike myself. The problem is that many of the influencers/bloggers are giving advice on sweet lolita while speaking in terms of "lolita advice" in general. As a newbie I did not realize that until later on so I ended up selling a bunch of the sweet things I bought during my babylita period. And I am also kinda tired about most of the western lolita influencers on youtube all have a closet composes of 80% AP dresses/very sweet baby dresses, but then it is the only media on youtube I could consume that is lolita related.
Im so happy that you mention about seeing the same coords, Im actually changing my style because I got bored of the sweet ott wave, and I really want to see more variety !
I can kind of relate with the socks and the thighs. I've always struggled with my thighs being thicker as well and over the knee/thigh highs made me feel really insecure when it would create that weird muffin top on my thigh from the socks being too tight. It also made me feel even more uncomfortable when people started sexualizing that exact thing in anime and cosplay communities. Not just thigh highs, but the tightness causing that muffin top effect. It really made me stop wearing thigh highs. I still think the look is really cute on others, but I just prefer to wear UTKs now.
As someone who enjoys seeing all different types of lolita, I agree with the frustration of seeing the same style and coords over and over. I wanna own a little bit of everything and it does become difficult
Most solutions to lolita clothes issues is knowing how to sew. Socks is still a butt to deal with! Plan socks are easy to find, pattern tights is a miracle. I'm also a cosplayer so I got use to peole staring at me, but funny enough, I get more looks and comments with the lolita that is not a costume than the real costume. It's so weird.
Personally, I love my personal style and although it is definitely not as flashy as lolita, it can cause some stares. And I don't really mind being looked at. But that doesn't mean I can easily ignore people who look at me rudely. It still hurts, and even though they would never make me wanna stop wearing what I wear, I'm still effected by it. So I imagine all people who wear alternative fashions know the feeling and how it can ruin a day that was otherwise a good one.
Being a size US 11, I pretty much gave up on any brand shoe. Aside from the issue of them generally being small (small in size) and uncomfortable. I've had better luck with Angelic Imprint on taobao. The only brand blouses I trust are princess sleeve blouses from Atelier Pierrot that are worth the money , those I also get second hand from japan (even with shipping) is around 50-70 USD. Other than that taobao for sure, plus shirring makes everything more comfortable. I hate cgl. Half of the time the comments aren't even constructive. They're just derogatory or vendetta like remarks. To be fair though, I've been much more critical of my outfits lately due to the rare but possible useful comments on there. CGL tears apart both good and not so good coords, so you have to take everything with a bit of salt. They still very much do the ita threads. Very interesting video. :)
I feel you on the shoes. I have sciatica and many shoes will cause a flare up within half an hour. I’m afraid to buy lolita specific shoes that I won’t be able to wear without pain!
it also drives me crazy that i can only find plastic shoes! i don’t want expensive shoes that will just eventually crack/tear/scuff and are unfixable. leather shoes are far better for upkeep, and they won’t sit in a landfill forever
I had the the same problem with otks for most of my life (not talking only about Lolita otks) and I were under weight! But I like them very much so I just use a garter with laces to block the sock, I heard that sock glue is a thing as well.
I’ve been trying to get my hands on the honey cake suspendier skirt in ivory for the longest time because it’s one of the only AP pieces that’s plus size friendly. But everyone is selling it for 600$ and it’s honestly not worth it to me… I can’t afford that and it sucks because there aren’t many options for me because of my size. All the prices get inflated so high!!!!
Have you tried gel padding for your shoes? I'm not sure what the proper name is but they have more give than a regular insole. If so, I do hope you find something that helps ❤️ You look and seem like a beautiful person Best wishes
As a bit of a casual goth, I've wanted to wear some gothic lolita dresses, but as you said, lolita fashion is pretty expensive and attention-grabbing. I'm concerned that I might not be able to wear a lolita dress much outside of the house (I still have to find a job), and hesitant to spend money on (or have someone spend money on my behalf) on stuff that I might not be able to wear regularly. Honestly, I wouldn't be caught dead in most feminine footwear. Even if I was able to start wearing lolita dresses today, I cannot imagine not wearing my sneakers.
I am just starting out and buying things, only a bit, to get used to wearing those out, because I have bad anxiety but I really want to wear these clothes, for the photos tho, I kinda got lucky cause I don’t really even take photos. And even though I only bought a bit of stuff it was still pretty expensive, I’m so excited to get them, but I have to wait like 3 months 😭. Well for my petticoats I get them Friday, and I think something else I should get in 49 days. Everything else though, 😢😭😭.
People posting other peoples cords up on that site with the intent to insult the lolita in the picture was the main reason I decided to not get into the fashion many years ago. I was told they do not do that anymore so I was planning to try it again. Now you are saying that they are still doing it... I am hesitant again. Although I was planning on only dressing in lolita mainly at home or with friends and some family so I may be safe. I have problems finding normal shoes that fit me and I am not looking forward to having to buy shoes online. I had to go to a special orthodontic shoe store last time and pretty much tried on every shoe in my size found in their store and in their storage. I can tell by looking at the pictures of the Cotton Candy shoes that I probably will not fit them. They are pretty though.
I love lolita dresses. I have a classic elegant lolita dress, a poofy petticoat, and an elegant blouse. I think thats all I want from the lolita fashion. I don't want socks, shoes, assessories, wigs, etc. Would I be considered an ita?
As long as you are honest with yourself that you actually like it. If the majority of the Lolita community dont consider it proper lolita, just call it ‘your style’

Low key relieved that I'm plus size and there's at most a total of 20 dress that I want/will fit me.

This video had a lot of good information. Thank you for sharing. Also you are wearing a beautiful coord !

The "power of trends" section is very relevant now that Iron Gate has been re-released and the clone battle is raging

I literally refuse to wear any none pastel lolita pieces and I wonder why people stare at me

Honestly the shoes thing is annoying. Lolitas have been complaining for years and nothing's changed :(
I swear I just came back from a date and my feet are dead. :D Lolita is a weekend thing, how am I supposed to go to work lol

100% agree

I’d say let’s just quit buying their crappy shoes. I prefer TUK shoes since they’re comfy.
I need to know her intro music
😭❤
I am new to lolita and I am so worried about finding socks. I got legs like tree trunks. I havent purchased any yet but I know most wont fit.

Spray paint everything black?
