Patrick Leonard - what a truly inspirational and meaningful player. Every note is given such purpose. It’s as if you were singing through your fingers.
This is so deep. You get a real sense of the depth of the song when the inventor plays it. So much longing in this, Madonna did a great job putting that across with he vocal. I wanna go back to San Pedro now.
my favourite ever song. so beautiful to hear this from Pat! Madonna & Pat created her best work, imo. True Blue is my favourite record. thank you so very much for this video! 💯👋❤️
an absolut unbeliveable Musican, for a long long time i collecting Music but what he did is an amazing part for the Music Scene, i stay on my knees in fron of you Patrick !! respect !!
madonna usually writes the melodies along with the lyrics, on top of the music. She didn't write La Isla Bonita "with" Leonard; the music was written and the song was offered to her, and she wrote the melody and lyrics on top, while in Hong Kong actually! In fact, the song was originally offered to Michael Jackson, who rejected it, and the other songwriter, Gaitsch, said he was relieved that it went to madonna in the end.
He put music to her lyrics! That´s a big difference. Its a collaboration that maybe they both needed since, Madonna was not that musical in the beginning she learned as she went a long just as she did learn how to play the guitar very late in life. As little as he had to do with her lyrics as did she in the music process, she said yes and no, but didn´t sit down and play out the music together with him. Like celebrities who design clothes, other make the clothes and show options and they pick.
You can't recognize it's La Isla Bonita without the drums, percussion, and the other instruments, if it wasn't for the video title, i would have never guessed it's La Isla Bonita....
I agree with you, lutalice. It was just an opinion based on what I hear, because I like to hear and feel a lot of songs including background details. I didn't take into account the fact that there are a lot of fans taking it seriously, so you're right. I can recognize which are from Leonard just hearing (not from memory), but now some people clarified me that melodies from her are added on top of Leonard's, so I think both comments are valid.
@toolate4567 The song can be played on piano; it's just phenomenally difficult to control the nuanced melody over the odd beat and still maintain the song's seductive style.
We like his songs and nobody I think wants to remove Mr. Leonard from his talent. But why are people obsessed with removing Madonna from hers? It is so annoying for people that a woman uses her brain and body at the same time?
ANYWAY the reason your comment annoyed me is because you can't say "it's clear" that the melodies come from Pat. You can't base a comment like that on 'good hearing,' sorry. Sometimes when the music is written for a song, there might already be a rough idea for a melody, other times not. With La Isla Bonita, i just happen to know the story behind the writing of that particular song. But Madonna, & several of her collaborators have stated that in most cases the melodies come from madonna herself.
Your point may be based on what the CD cover says, but it's like saying that all Beatles's songs are from Lennon & McCartney, and we know this is not true. It is clear that melodies are from Leonard and sure Madonna add lyrics and some variations to the original. In the album, also remixers put their part, but depends on the producer (Leonard).
I never said that Madonna never composes. I know she does. I was referring to the melodies of this song in particular. But it's true that I cannot know for sure because I don't know them personally (despite having her a few meters distance in a set during one of her films, hehe). The question is How could YOU know. This is what label says. If you trust what is printed, then I have nothing to say. I just put a thought to share opinions, based on what I hear. I'm also a Madonna's music fan.
Doe she have a myspace page? I had an opportunity to meet in '87 at Roselle Music in IL. He's an incredible talent and producer. I wish there was a way to send him an email. Truly the talent behind the talent.
How could you know, you where not in the studio, and madonna composes as well. Also she does not just add lyrics, And may i remind you that madonna also co- produced the songs they did together. that is called collaboration!
Then Rivers recorded in '94 could be the way to go, unless of course you already own it. Based on condensed improvs, Pat's approach on the grand piano is very similar to what's in these videos, though some of the tracks are backed up by one or a few other acoustic instruments. Just love the stories/ diary entries that go with each track. Caught some fish lately, Pat?
BoogieWoogieMusic Wrong. She and he are credited as writing songs together because "she wrote the lyrics and I the melody (music)" as my Uncle Pat stated in interviews. She had very little to do with the music in the songs he wrote.
thanks for the wonderful posting! a true musical genius!! but dont be so sure the M ever actually gave a sh** the music! i read a quote from Pat saying it pissed him off when M would say music is not a major concern of hers...his exact words were "well its a major concern for someone, bitch, otherwise you would be there!!!!" haha!!!
Patrick Leonard - what a truly inspirational and meaningful player. Every note is given such purpose. It’s as if you were singing through your fingers.
It's 2021 and I still feel emotional listening to this rendition of La Isla Bonita.
MADONNA PLEASE COME BACK TO PATRICK
She aint responded
This is so deep. You get a real sense of the depth of the song when the inventor plays it. So much longing in this, Madonna did a great job putting that across with he vocal. I wanna go back to San Pedro now.
Madonna got the name San Pedro from the I-405 exit sign to San Pedro on the way to the recording studio in Los Angeles.
Beautifully played with such emotion. What a wonderful version of the song. Well done Patrick.
OleCramMusic he co-wrote it.
my favourite ever song. so beautiful to hear this from Pat! Madonna & Pat created her best work, imo. True Blue is my favourite record. thank you so very much for this video! 💯👋❤️

You make me crying Patrick. For real
I like Patrick’s work with Peter Cetera on “One Good Woman”. Great songwriter
You can't recognize it's La Isla Bonita without the drums, percussion, and the other instruments, if it wasn't for the video title, i would have never guessed it's La Isla Bonita....
I agree
Yes you can. Listen about half way through if you haven't already got it by then
He is the composer of the song, so this is the original version
yes you are so right, people always think that she just hires someone to write for her which is just not true
AWESOME
MASTER PIECE
thanks for posting this

Wish I could buy this
@toolate4567 The song can be played on piano; it's just phenomenally difficult to control the nuanced melody over the odd beat and still maintain the song's seductive style.
a helluva pianist
I hope she will work with him and Orbit on her next album and stay away from guettas solveigs and other crap
We like his songs and nobody I think wants to remove Mr. Leonard from his talent. But why are people obsessed with removing Madonna from hers? It is so annoying for people that a woman uses her brain and body at the same time?

lutalice they did not. My Uncle Pat wrote this song entirely, I promise you that.
simplicity!
I totally agree with you!
It's what I've always thought!
why don't they just do it!!???

Why dislike this? I just don't get it.
Some people have no soul
Égua! Só faltou o vocal de Madonna 👑🌎🍃
Doe she have a myspace page? I had an opportunity to meet in '87 at Roselle Music in IL. He's an incredible talent and producer. I wish there was a way to send him an email. Truly the talent behind the talent.
Better cover at all.
The rest: Bullshit.
Thanks for this marvelous, dark, warm and deep performance. Great!
Aranza Atanes it's not a cover
I think it is the original version

omg.. what? can't believe you didnt hear it!! maybe u just werent listening
yo tripper you don't know what you're talking about, although you think you do. Are you a songwriter?
Not songwriting, but "good hearing". But please, explain better what you think (not about me, but my comment).
Con mucho respeto no está claro que está tocando el tiempo está mal
@escuipo I guess you don't understand much about the root composition of your typical popular song. Or maybe you don't like art.
Kuwait. Jaksi.ademi
Does not sound like "la isla bonita" at all
jojit francisco he co-wrote it, so he can arrange it as he wishes I suppose!
oH but this doesn't sound great! dislikes justified.
So boring(((
But this is the original version
Love this!
