    Great demo on using what you have and not spending time wishing for more stuff. I think back to what the original smiths had to start with and amazes me of how we complain when we don't have the latest greatest "New" tools out when we should be concentrating on the basics like this. Thanx Jayce!!

      You are right Chuck - it is amazing what we can come up with when we think outside the box out of necessity. Anytime I don't have a tool I always ask myself "How can I do it without that?" and I usually come up with a solution. However I am tool guy - I do like my tools! 😉

    For crying out loud, use the guard on the angle grinder, is the slight ease of use worth being out of work for months because you have to have tendon surgery? Or you lose an eye? I really do not understand the levels of risk people accept when not using the guard.

    • @FarmsteadForge

      Very good point. I grew up in a fab shop with several grinders, all without the guards and we never had a single accident - however I am aware of the risks. Thank you.

      Yep this can not be stressed enough, especially with cutoff wheels. One friend almost lost his Thumb and another an eye.

      @@RRINTHESHOP Thanks Randy - I will try to be better about putting my guards on.

    Another good video Jayce! I noticed your "light cross peen" appears to have formerly been a ball peen. If this is so, did you grind it into a cross peen or forge it into a cross peen? Curious minds want to know! 🤔

    • @FarmsteadForge

      Well I forged it of course silly goose! Thanks for stopping by Bob 🙂

    • @FarmsteadForge

      Bob - I also upset the face of that hammer to make it shorter and fatter to balance it better.

    • @boblasley5640

      Ah ok. One more silly 🪿 question. After forging, did you harden the peen or hammer face any or just leave them soft?

    • @FarmsteadForge

      If I remember right, with that one I just let it air cool and then tested it. It's a little soft but it tested ok so I just left it alone... better to have it a little soft vs shatter. The old hammers are pretty safe to play with, but the new stuff is pretty unpredictable and dangerous.
