Great interview. Really relatable. As an ex cocaine dealer and addict I moved 6000 miles away to get out of that life. Haven't sniffed for two years and 6 months and turned my life around completely. No more bang up for me. You cannot heal in the environment that makes you sick. Do I miss the money? Of coarse......Do I miss the life? Not one bit.

very true and being young with fast money makes it hard for a person to be religious. also how can a person have religion in their heart whilst commiting so much sin daily, its crazy either way.
youngsters need to know right from wrong at a young age and the old saying the devil makes easy work for idle hands is very true, keep kids too busy to even think of idiotic stuff

@@siduk2636 yes Sid, the truth is even if your born muslim it doest mean you will have god consciousness at that age. In a way we are reverting back as born muslims later on in life. It seems to me when we reach our 20s and have maturity then we start asking deep questions if we already have been nurtured to believe in god in some way then thats when the journey starts for most of us.

Regarding how can one be from a Muslim background and get involved in gangs. Muslim background youth such as Pakistanis Bangladeshis Somalis were systematically bullied by non Muslim gangs. Now the tables have turned and things have gone the other way with Muslim youth being the main ones in gangs. That's not a good thing but people had to do what they had to do to protect themselves in those days which meant gaining respect on the streets. It's the sad reality of growing up in a western society as opposed to growing up in Saudi Arabia for example.

The Messenger ﷺ lived a poor life and experienced what the poor experience of hunger and the need for food, drink and clothes. How many times was he hungry, not finding anything to eat, although he was the Messenger (peace be upon him), the best of Allah’s creation!! Sometimes, due to lack of food, the Messenger ﷺ used to even tie a stone on his stomach due to hunger.

The Messenger ﷺ chose not to have worldly luxuries, so he used to be hungry sometime and satisfied other times. This was in order to be a role model and example for the poor of how to be patient in this life and look forward to Allah’s reward when they are in their state of poverty.

Umar b. al-Khattab (Allah be pleased with him) reported:
I visited Allah's Messenger ﷺ , and he was lying on a mat. I sat down and he drew up his lower garment over him and he had nothing (else) over him, and that the mat had left its marks on his sides. I looked with my eyes in the storeroom of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him). I found only a handful of barley equal to one sa' and an equal quantity of the leaves of Mimosa Flava placed in the nook of the cell, and a semi-tanned leather bag hanging (in one side), and I was moved to tears (on seeing this extremely austere living of the Holy Prophet), and he said: Ibn Khattab, what wakes you weep?
I said: Apostle of Allah, why should I not shed tears? This mat has left its marks on your sides and I do not see in your storeroom (except these few things) that I have seen; Caesar and Chosroes are leading their lives in plenty whereas you are Allah's Messenger. His chosen one, and that is your store! He said: Ibn Khattab, aren't you satisfied that for us (there should be the prosperity) of the Hereafter, and for them (there should be the prosperity of) this world? I said: Yes.
