Dude, I'm likely in the same scenario as you. My chain break handle is broken so I'm waiting for a replacement but I'm noticing that same burning area around my clutch. How did it all turn out for you??
The case got melted because some idiot ran it at high speed with the chain break on. They could have smoked the case down by having a clutch that was slipping and heating up the sprocket. Both clearly point to operator abuse, ignorance or incompetence.

After I replaced the parts it has been fine.
